For ‘Paurashpur’, Somit Jain had to develop the mindset of a warrior!

Actor #SomitJain, who plays the role of #SenapatiAgnivardhan in the series #Paurashpur, says that he had to prepare well for the role. The actor adds that his character is highly ambitious and can do anything to get what he wants.

“Developed a mindset like a warrior, warlord and someone who is highly ambitious who would do anything to get to his goals even if it means harming, causing destruction and killing which senapati Agni vardhan did. He is a ferocious soul a rebel. To reach that mindset, I started building a mindset. That’s it…As you can see he kills, hunts and is brutal,” he says.

Comparing Paurushpur to Bahubali, he says, “Paurushpur has its own universe identity and story line and so does Bahubali. I think comparison is unnecessary. Bahubali is an exceptionally fascinating movie. But Paurushpur is different in a way, it’s gory, uninhibited and positively shameless in its approach and making.”

He adds, “My role stands out in its characterisation. A warlord, warrior, casanova, highly ambitious and brutal. He wants what he wants, even if the ride gets bumpy. He adds uniqueness in the story line in its own style.”

Talking about the shoot, he says, “Every scene was interesting and the whole experience was amazing to be honest. My scenes with the maharani have been intense and fierce. I particularly love the one where we fight and Agni Vardhan dies.”

He says that shooting bold scenes were also not challenging for him. “It was pretty comfortable. The rest of the cast and the director and other crew members were supportive and highly professional, making the process easier. It is all thanks to my director, God bless!”

Talking about how the audience has loved the show, he says, “Reviews are great. I guess the audience has loved it. Working with ALTT has been great. I loved it. I am thankful to them for giving me the opportunity. The diversity Ekta Kapoor brings in terms of content is commendable. She is a brave fearless woman’ and it is this attitude that is causing growth and success to ALTT.”

On working with Milind Soman in a show for the first time, she shared, “In 2016, I was doing this show on MTV where Milind was there as a judge. We all went backstage to see him, and the moment he walked in, all of us started screaming, and our producer asked us to not shout. And I even fainted after that. Yes, I fainted.”

Months before the shoot of the film the actors get into preparing each and every aspect of their characters, be it look, language, mannerisms, etc. Similarly, Poulomi Das too believes in pushing the envelope for her characters.

The gorgeous actress, who portrays the role of Kala, a ‘daasi’ to the queen in the recently-released epic period-drama Paurashpur by ALTBalaji and ZEE5, feels proud to be associated with a show mounted on such big scale and magnitude.

Interestingly, for one of her scenes in the show, an elaborate dance sequence to be precise, the actress ended up dancing for approximately 18 hours at a stretch. Yes, you read it right!

Informs Poulomi, “There is a very dramatic dance performance in Paurashpur which I had to perform. The dance sequence had a lot of feelings and hand and eye gestures involved which required a lot detailing and finesse. To achieve the perfection, we had to stretch it for those many hours and also there was a sequence where I am dancing inside and outside the water. It was a pretty elaborate thing to execute. I love dancing so I really enjoyed it.”

Poulomi will be stealing hearts and breaking rules in the patriarchal kingdom, and that is a big mistake in a realm where no woman should make any mistakes.

Given the scale, grandeur, and stellar cast of Indian OTT’s first epic fictional drama ‘Paurashpur’, it’s hard to fathom how the makers – ALTBalaji, ZEE5, and director Shachindra Vats managed to wrap up the shoot of the magnum opus in just 22 days!

To shoot a period costume drama mounted on such a lavish scale, with heavy VFX, the stellar cast and editing performances were undoubtedly a big challenge for the makers. But as they say, ‘all that begins well, ends well’, the makers with utmost focus, dedication, and round-the-clock shifts, managed to wrap up the show’s shooting schedule in mere 22 days.

The intriguing trailer featuring opulent sets, magnificent backdrop, and vibrant colours, ‘Paurashpur’ is appreciated to be Indian OTT’s first web show featuring heavy VFX, adding up to its popularity.

Director Shachindra Vats explains, “Shooting Paurashpur was certainly a big challenge, especially because we shot the entire show during the lockdown. So, considering the restrictions and safety protocols, the team still managed to shoot the entire show in 22 days.”

The show’s creative director Baljit Chaddha and his team were well prepared, with the pre-production work. They worked on the story and casting, keeping every character in mind, and planned each character’s looks before the director Shachindra Vats, came on board.

“The VFX team came on board during the pre-production work, and they started creating the 3D model of Paurashpur palace as we wanted to show it in a 360-degree format. Since it’s a fictional world, the team had to create it according to their imagination. So that process took some time. The sketches were approved, and then 2D versions were created, followed by their 3D versions. I’m grateful to the VFX team who worked day and night to ensure that the show gets ready within the given time. Luckily, the actors’ dates were sorted, so we completed shooting schedules according to their dates’ availability. The show has come out well, and I hope the audience likes it,” adds Vats.
