Piew Jana says that she would prefer a character where she doesn’t have a male co-actor paired up with her!

Actress #PiewJana, who has featured in shows like “#KrishnaChaliLondon” and “#ZindagiKiMehak”, admits that she wants to make it big in the industry, but doesn’t want to be called a “#heroine”, instead, she calls herself a performer and believes in doing her own thing once the camera turns on. “I never wanted to become a heroine, I am here in the industry as a performer, and I have always worked for that. Even if I get the smallest of small characters I try to give it my 100 percent so that it leaves an impact on the audience,” she said.

“I always enjoy adding my bits to my character. A director has never told me what to do and what not to do, I have always read the script and performed the way I wanted to, and luckily they have always loved it,” she added.

While she loves adding her own touch to her characters, Piew doesn’t take her characters home. She said, “As soon as the camera switches off, I am back to being Piew. I give my 100 percent to my characters, but I never take them home with me. I become them only when the camera is on.”

“I have seen a lot of actors who will be upset throughout the day if they have done a crying scene, but that has never happened to me. When I get into a character, then even if someone is laughing or fooling around, it doesn’t affect me, but once the camera is off, I forget everything about that character,” she added.

And though negative characters receive a lot of flak from the audience, Piew admitted that she loves to play negative characters. She said, “I don’t want to stick to just one character, I am happy to play negative or grey characters as well, something that gives me a chance to explore my full potential and not just stick to the books.”

Also, she shared that she would any day prefer a character where she doesn’t have a male co-actor paired up with her.

“I call myself a feminist, not because I am against men, but because I believe that we are equals. I feel a woman can do much more than just be an eye candy on-screen. Whenever I am offered a role, I always ask my directors if there is a role where I don’t have a co-actor paired opposite me. I want to play the solo lead and be a part of women-oriented shows or films because there is nothing that a man can do and a woman can’t,” Piew concluded.

It’s been a year since the first 21 days of lockdown was announced in India last year amid the Covid-19 crisis worldwide. Since then life has not been the same. A lot of things changed in the way we have been leading our lives.

Prateik Chaudhary : I learnt to eat home-cooked food more, do different workout at home. I feel I have become more reserved as a person. These days I go out less, don’t party much or waste time unnecessarily and try to be more productive by using my time wisely. Basically I like the person I have become.

Vijayendra Kumeria : I have understood one thing that mental health is as important as physical health. I started meditation during the lockdown and now it has become a part of my daily routine.

Prakhar Toshniwal : Lockdown had made me realise the importance of friends and family. It acted like a meditative period for me when I could take a small break from the daily hustle and introspect to understand what really matters in life. It has also taught me that no matter how many limitations we have, we can always find a way to do what we want.

Ashish Johri : The major changes are that I have been taking care of myself and my loved ones. Health has become our priority. I am thriving to live life well, following all healthy habits along with working hard to enjoy a better life.

Amit Mishra : Maintaining proper hygiene, wearing mask etc are good habits that I inculcated. Since cases are on the rise again I am still following all the norms and also maintaining social distance. I have included regular one hour exercise in my daily routine along with a healthy nutritious diet because healthy mind resides in a healthy body.

Prashant Bajaj : I understood the importance of being self-dependent. During the lockdown, I did everything myself starting from cooking to cleaning. I have realised that only money can’t buy happiness. It’s being with your family that matters more.

Piew Jana : I realised the value of loved ones and also money. I realised money isn’t everything but everything requires money.

Munisha Khatwani : I have learnt to slow down things a bit, have become more dedicated towards maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Now I follow a proper diet and workout routine and at the same time I have really learnt how to chill. I enjoyed loving my own company because during this lockdown I have mostly been alone. I have also started reading books apart from enjoying my solitude. Thankfully my worked picked up and doing things online was fun.

Nilam Kenia : I have started taking things as they come with an open mind now than I used to earlier. I still do plan out things but now I don’t stress over whether they would work or not. If they don’t work out, I revise my plan.

Micckie Dudaaney : One of the major changes that I have implemented because of corona is that I’ve started eating home food more of home food. I have also started working out at home to stay fit. It also made me realise that you don’t need 100 people to celebrate any occasion you just need your family and close friends to make merry.

Hrishikesh Pandey : I also started cooking and doing all other household chores on my own. In fact I have done all these in the past so it did not bother me much. What it made me value more is time. So I started working harder realising how we need to earn well. At the same time, it’s important to disconnect from your work once you come back home and chill. Everything in life is important is what I have learnt.

Saurabh Kaushik : We should always live in the present and don’t think of the future and give much more importance to savings are the things I have learnt. And having that me-time is also important. During the lockdown I have been alone in my apartment that was the toughest time for me. But it made me stronger. Such tough times make you realise how important your family is and who are true friends. It also made me realise how important it is to maintain your finances and be prepared for difficult days.

Actor-producer Piew Jana believes in family entertainments!

Actress Piew Jana, known for her roles in shows like “Krishna Chali London” and “Zindagi Ki Mehek”, along with her husband Manish Mishra runs a production company called Framecut Entertainment. A firm believer that a show or film can run without intimate scenes or nudity, she shared that their aim is to create stories that can be watched together with a family.

Under Framecut Entertainment, they have made short films like “Besharam”, “Puchki” and “Firdausi Phool”, to name a few. The actress said, “As an actor I am not comfortable in doing intimate scenes on-screen, so how can I make films with them in my production house. Both my husband and I want to make films for family viewing. People have told us that such things don’t sell now, but look at the popularity of shows like ‘Anupamaa’, it’s a simple story of a housewife, and it is still doing so good. Is there any nudity or intimacy there? I feel there is an audience who still loves to watch shows and films which have a story to tell.”

“We started three years ago and have a long way to go, but our focus is to create content that leaves an impact on the audience and makes them think. Something that you can watch with your whole family without getting uncomfortable at any point,” she added.

Piew also shared that they are making women-centric films and said, “We feel that there is so much that can be explored from a woman’s point of view and we are creating stories mainly from that angle.”

The actress had featured in the short film “Firdausi Phool” which revolved around the dilemma a woman goes through once she gets married and how she is made to forget her dreams and wishes. Asked if making her a part of the stories is a conscious decision, she said, “When my husband and I got married, he also got an actress on-board. But honestly, I prefer to be behind the camera and be a part of the filmmaking process.”

“‘Firdausi Phool’ was a beautiful story and my husband insisted that I feature in it. It was such a heartwarming story that I couldn’t say no, and I loved how it came out. In the future, however, our aim is to give a chance to new talent, someone who is passionate about acting and can create a magic on-screen,” Piew concluded

Though she has been in the industry for over seven years now, actress Piew Jana has been a part of very selected shows like “Krishna Chali London” and “Zindagi Ki Mehak”, “Ghulam” to name a few, and she revealed that she is not okay with doing intimate scenes on-screen, and wants to work on her principles.

“They may call me old-school, but I don’t even like to watch intimate scenes, forget about doing. I don’t have any starry tantrums, but I have certain principles, and many a time I lose on roles because of this,” she said.

“People feel that I have certain beliefs and principles and have even taunted me that all these things won’t help me in becoming an actor, and I proudly tell them that I am not here to become a heroine, I am here to perform,” she added.

Piew, who made her Bollywood debut with “Mere Sai Ram”, also said that though she has lost on roles because of this, she is happy with whatever work she has done.

“A lot of directors and even casting directors have told me that with so many principles of mine, nobody will cast me, but that’s how I work and I am not going to change it for anyone,” she said.

“I have myself said no to a lot of projects because I don’t want to do something which I am not comfortable with and regret it all my life. I may have not done a lot of work, but whatever I have done I am happy and content with it because it’s as per my will. People know me as a performer and I am just waiting for a good role where I can perform,” Piew wrapped up.

Actress Piew Jana, who is currently hosting “Indian Food Flicks”, credits social media for bridging the gap between fans and celebrities. However, she feels that this medium should be mainly used to spread positivity and inspire people.

“I think in modern times the interaction between celebrities and fans has increased tenfold, thanks to social media. Before there used to be very minimal interaction between the common man and the celebrity. But being the citizens of this great country, which is known for its rich culture and heritage, it is paramount that all celebrities should be very responsible for what they are uploading on their respective social media accounts,” she said.

“All the fans have taken to social media just as a duck takes to water. So all the content posted by celebrities invite both accolades and criticism from their fans. Hence it is very important to post only positive content that will inspire fans and bring about inspirational changes in their lives,” she added.

Asked her whom she follows on social media, the “Krishna Chali London” actress said, “I follow people who match my mindset, who are blessed with dignity, humility, and down-to-earth nature. We follow people to know them better and to try and learn some positive things from them. Also being in contact with our fellow actors will help us in getting new projects and help our careers.”

Though she agrees that social media plays an important role in our lives, she disagrees that it is an ego massage tool. She said, “It’s just the way you see it. Just as we can use a knife to either cut an apple or to kill a person, similarly some immoral people showcase their ego in full fledge on social media just to disrespect some other celebrities or fans. Actress Piew Jana, who has been a part of shows like “Krishna Chali London” and “Zindagi Ki Mehek”, feels the audience has become more receptive to various stories and content in different genres now. She said, “The viewer in today’s world has become more open to contents, which were deemed taboo few years ago. This has opened new windows in the creative mindsets of people.”

“The content in the industry of late has been informative, refreshing, and appealing to viewers of all age groups. In the recent past, the content has been made on sensitive subjects and the audience has received it well. Now the world has become a better place for creativity,” she added.

She further said, “In the 90s and early 2000, shows and movies that were made sounded redundant to the characters that were portrayed on-screen. They were similar in one way or the other. Shedding this monotonous pattern, the current industry has opened gates for creative brilliance. More and more unique characters have emerged, leaving the audience inspired and spellbound.”

Piew also credited the digital world for keeping the audience entertained in the tough COID times, where most of us were locked inside our homes for over three months. She said, “During the challenging times of the pandemic, OTT and YouTube channels have become the go-to platforms for viewer entertainment. I voice my support to this new world of digitalization, wherein a viewer can choose from a wide array of the content displayed on OTT platforms.”

“The audience can now enjoy unlimited videos, albums, movies, comedy videos, short films, web series, etc. in different languages on the go. Also, more and more people have shown an affinity towards creating their YouTube channels to post content, wherein the more the number of views they get on posts, the more they get benefited financially from the uploaded content,” she added.

Piew also stressed that since the pandemic, people are opting to watch the content on the OTT platform rather than TV, and said it can be because of the long storytelling format on the latter which fails to grab the audience’s attention for a long time.

“In this modern world of digitalisation, more and more viewers are opting to watch other content on OTT platforms rather than viewing serials on television. This has made the TRP’s of daily soaps fall to alarming levels, thereby enhancing the probability of some shows going off-air. In these challenging times of the COVID pandemic, employees have opted to work from home. Furthermore, couples get to spend more time together at home and watch their favourite content on OTT platforms. This has profoundly decreased the viewership of people on television. Hence the increase in rejection rates of television shows,” she said.

“Coming to the content part of the tv shows, today’s viewers would rather opt to watch web series when compared to daily soaps. The reason being that daily soaps are infamous for dragging stories, thereby testing the patience of the viewers,” Piew concluded.
