Squadron Leader Sartaj Pathania aka Patty (Hrithik Roshan) is a decorated IAF pilot who is supposed to be the best ‘fighter’ in an entire IAF. To combat the increasingly menacing terrorist activities of Pakistan’s terrorist group an air strike team, ‘Air Dragons’, is formed which is led by Rakesh ‘Rocky’ JaiSingh (Anil Kapoor). Rocky and Patty have personal issues which are visible to everyone in the team which includes Squadron Leaders Minal Rathore aka ‘Mini’ (Deepika Padukone), Sartaj Gill aka ‘Taj’ (Karan Singh Grover), Basheer Khan aka ‘Bash’ (Akshay Oberoi), Sukhdeep Singh aka ‘Sukhi’ (Baveen Singh), Rajan Unnithan aka ‘Unni’ (Mahesh Shetty). Around the team’s bonding, comes a news of a terrorist attack on CRPF soldiers in Pulwama. An air attack is planned which is successfully carried out by the ‘team’. What happens later and in between including the personal emotional combats of the lead cast forms the crux of the story.

Siddharth Anand has managed to offer sleek air combat scenes and the action choreography is praise worthy which include stylish and breathtaking mid air action scenes. VFX and special effects look life like which is a compliment. The first half is pacy but the second one drags a little with ‘women empowerment’ issues being highlighted through emotional scenes. An Air Force officer shown in an hand to hand fight, though to elevate the heroism, looks unauthentic and unnecessary. The music is good and the songs add to the partriotic feelings. Background score adds to the effectiveness of the proceedings on screen. The cinematography is excellent. The acting department is the highlight of the film as everyone has delivered a superb performance. Hrithik Roshan is splendidly super in his role. He looks suave, dashing and drop dead handsome in all the scenes, especially while walking towards the hanger. He has emoted beautifully and nails the character’s inner turmoil beautifully. He has the maximum screen time and he justifies that with a superlative performance. Deepika Padukone looks ravishing in uniform and otherwise and her pairing with Hrithik is just mind blowing. The electrifying chemistry between them is worth watching on the screen. She has excelled in emotional scenes and viewers will be hoping to see more of her on screen. Anil Kapoor too has delivered a punching performance and his youthful energy is worth envying. Karan Singh Grover and Akshay Oberoi do justice to their roles and apart from looking extremely gorgeous Sanjida Shaikh impresses despite limited screen time. Rishabh Sawhney who plays an antagonist is passable.

Fighter is filled with sleek, stylish air combat scenes and Hrithik Roshan carries the film on his shoulder with elan.

Anuj’s story began during the November 2020 lockdown when he stumbled upon a casting call with #TessJoseph on #Instagram that would change his life forever. The audition required a monologue, which he shared as a test. He navigated the audition rounds through a rollercoaster of emotions. The third audition was conducted via a Zoom call and when he received the news that he had been shortlisted, it was a dream come true. A meeting with renowned director Raja Menon solidified his role in the film and Anuj describes it as a surreal experience.

Anuj shared, “Working with Raja Menon Sir was a truly transformative experience for me. Raja Sir made me feel like part of a family, which helped ease my nervousness and ensure my comfort in this new environment. As my first feature film, his mentorship and approach to conducting workshops played a pivotal role in getting his entire cast together as a big unit. Pippa is all about brotherhood and camaraderie, and sir’s unwavering dedication to character development and storytelling is what has translated so beautifully on screen. His humility, down-to-earth nature, and exceptional understanding of the art of filmmaking were truly inspiring.”

Talking about his role prep, Anuj shared, “In my journey to prepare for my role in Pippa, we did a lot of reading workshops to grasp our characters and the script. My character’s portrayal, as a Sikh, demanded that I go beyond the surface and truly embrace the subtleties and nuances of the culture. I spent hours meditating in a Gurudwara to embody the character authenticity and tried to infuse every frame with depth. We underwent two gruelling army training sessions with cadets. These sessions pushed us to our limits, requiring us to run 11 kilometres with rifles, conquer rope climbing challenges, and even command real tanks, firing from them.”

Anuj Singh Duhan hails from Rohtak in Haryana, a city known for its rich sports culture and military background. His journey from Rohtak to Mumbai has been a remarkable one, and he remains rooted in his origins while reaching for the stars.

Pippa centres on the courageous story of Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta, who served in the 45th Cavalry tank squadron during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war on the eastern front, fighting alongside his brothers and sisters. Team Pippa has put out some captivating stills from the upcoming war drama to honour the heroes of the 1971 war. In the stills, Khatter can be seen commandeering an amphibious war tank (“Pippa”), which played a major role in the war. The action-packed movie is on its way to bringing a glorious chapter of history to the big screen, and the stills make us excited for what it has in store for viewers. PIPPA is currently filming across Amritsar, West Bengal, Ahmednagar and Mumbai.

PIPPA is an adaptation of the book The Burning Chaffees, written by Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta, that follows the story of the war veteran Brigadier Mehta of the 45th Cavalry tank squadron (essayed by Khatter) who fought in the war of 1971.

Pippa is set to have Ishaan in the role of Brigadier Mehta, a veteran of the 45th Cavalry Tank Squadron who fought on the eastern front during the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971.

With one of the biggest war films, Uri: The Surgical Strike, to his credit, Producer Ronnie Screwvala says, “Pippa is a story that chronicles an Indian victory in 1971 through the eyes of the Mehta family and signing on fine actors to essay the members of this brave family was our foremost priority. I’m glad we have talented actors like Mrunal and Priyanshu on board, who along with Ishaan will spearhead this story of triumph that needs to be told.” 

Siddharth Roy Kapur says, “We were looking for great actors who would complement each other to create a believable family unit, and with Mrunal, Priyanshu and Ms. Razdan on board to join Ishaan, I am happy that we have more than achieved what we set out to do with the casting.”

Tejas is the story of a daring and fierce fighter pilot, played by Kangana Ranaut. The Indian Air Force was the first of the country’s defence forces to induct women into combat roles in 2016. The film takes inspiration from this landmark event.

Written to evoke a sense of pride and most importantly inspire the youth of our nation, this mission based film takes us through some of the most challenging combat missions our forces undertake in their effort to keep our country safe from terrorism. 

Written and to be directed by Sarvesh Mewara, this is another RSVP film after URI: The Surgical Strike that salutes the armed forces and aims to inspire the country at large.

In this heroic tank battle film, Ishaan is set to take on the role of war veteran Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta of the 45th Cavalry tank squadron who, along with his siblings, fought on the eastern front during the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971. It was with this battle, which took place in Garibpur, that India for the first time infiltrated and entered enemy land, thus leading to the liberation of our neighbour Bangladesh.

The film titled Pippa is written by Ravinder Randhawa, Tanmay Mohan and Raja Krishna Menon. It is based on the book The Burning Chaffees, written by the Brigadier himself. The film’s unique title highlights the magnificent Russian amphibious war tank called the PT-76, popularly and lovingly known as “Pippa”, an empty ghee da dabba that smoothly floats on water.

In their Pippa, Balram and his tank squadron fought the riveting 48-hour-long Battle of Garibpur that laid the foundation for and influenced the outcome of the impending war in India’s favour. The film also portrays the coming-of-age of a young Mehta as well as of our nation, as both stepped up to prove themselves in a war for the liberation of another country. The battle paved the path for India’s triumph as Captain Mehta rose to the occasion and led his troops to victory.

In addition to the war-front bravado, thrilling military camaraderie and majestic action sequences that will surely wow audiences, this story also explores the poignancy of a family displaced during wartime amidst the backdrop of the heart-wrenching refugee crisis that plagues our world even today. The key roles of Mehta’s elder brother and younger sister, who also bravely conducted themselves during the war, are in the process of being cast.

Producer Siddharth Roy Kapur shares, “While the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971 is widely documented, one of its less-known chapters is the covert operation that became the Battle of Garibpur, which played a significant part in India’s eventual victory. This is the war that is often heralded as the only ‘just war’ in history because it was fought to save human lives and free a nation. Brigadier Mehta’s fascinating account resonated with us deeply, and we instinctively knew that Ishaan would be ideal to play him.
