This unique initiative was the brainchild of Dr. Biswajit Mondal who recognized that beyond doctors, the roles of nurses, ward boys, and ambulance drivers are equally critical in the healthcare system. During the COVID-19 pandemic, these frontline warriors displayed extraordinary courage and dedication, often without due recognition.

At this grand ceremony, healthcare staff across all levels were not only honored with awards but also given the opportunity to walk the ramp – a symbolic and empowering gesture that boosted their confidence and social identity.

The chief guest of the event was former Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Kumar Mishra, and celebrity guests included ‘Aashiqui’ fame actor Rahul Roy and renowned fitness expert Mickey Mehta. The event also saw the special presence of Sachin Nanavati, trustee of Nanavati Max Hospital.

Mickey Mehta remarked, “Honoring healthcare staff on such a platform is a noble and inspiring act.” The event’s success also owed much to the dedicated efforts of Pintu Mondal.

The event featured insightful discussions on the impact of cancer, heart disease, and pollution, spreading awareness about crucial health concerns.

Among the distinguished doctors present were:
Dr. Rahul Bajpai, Dr. Ramakant Deshpande, Dr. Santosh Pandey, Dr. Shankar Sawant, Dr. Kumud Patel, Dr. Pravin Khale, Dr. Ali Irani, Dr. Vachan Shetty, and Dr. Vaidehi Taman. From outside Mumbai, Dr. Satyajit Bose (Durgapur) and Dr. Prakash Shelvan (Chennai) were notably present.

Dr. Biswajit Mondal shared, “Doctors interact with patients only briefly, while nurses, ward boys, and support staff spend the most time with them. Honoring them alongside doctors is essential and long overdue.”

The event was skillfully anchored by popular actress, anchor, and social media influencer Ekta Jain, who infused the stage with energy and emotion.

Celebrity guest #RahulRoy presented awards to many extraordinary individuals. His sister took to the stage to share the story of Rahul’s struggle with a brain stroke and how doctors helped him recover. Though he still faces challenges in speech, his determination and the doctors’ dedication stand as a powerful example.

Actress and producer #MedhaManjrekar, while receiving the award on behalf of actor-director Mahesh Manjrekar, shared, “He is a fighter. He fought bravely against cancer. My daughter Sai and I stood by him and took care of him throughout the journey.”

Several social workers were also recognized for their selfless service during the COVID-19 crisis, including Nitu Joshi from Miam Charitable Trust, Archana Jain from Florian Foundation, Raju Sakat from BMC, Iqbal Mamdani, Sunil Kanojia from Sea Guardian,Ashok Kurmi, Bhagwan Dada, Bhagirath NGO, Prakash Gidwani and others.

HIFAA is more than just an award ceremony – it is a meaningful social initiative that reminds us who the real heroes are: the doctors, nurses, ward boys, and ambulance drivers who selflessly serve patients. With this inspiring beginning, HIFAA sets a new standard for acknowledging every pillar of the healthcare system.

“I was shooting my new film in Russia when my friends forwarded some Twitter posts where footage from my film L.A.C was shown as Indian soldiers having captured 150 Chinese soldiers. I thought it was a one-off post but then I started receiving messages from everywhere about this news. I also found out that on the other side, Chinese websites were using stills from my film to show the victory of their soldiers. I was disturbed at the propaganda my film was being used for, but as a director I also felt satisfied that my film looked authentic enough to convince viewers. I immediately issued a clarification on my Instagram account,” says Nitin.

The film L.A.C. is loosely based on incidents and activities that happen at our borders.
“We used real life incidents and fictionalised them. Since we used over 500 actors for some scenes, it was impossible to keep cell phone filming under control. Some of the actors filmed the fight sequences and uploaded them on their YouTube channels. Parts of these were picked up by various viewers and used for the wrong reasons,” he explains further.

Filmed in the winter of 2020 in real war locations in Kargil for over 25 days, L.A.C, according to Nitin, is Bollywood”s first single shot film. It runs without a single cut. Real army costumes and gears were used to make it look real. The post production of L.A.C has just been completed in Russia. “We have offers from a few OTT platforms but we are looking for a theatrical release if possible,” says the director.

It is often said that both good and bad publicity helps. “Yes, controversy surrounding a film always leads to hype. But if the controversy causes negative feelings towards the subject or to anyone in real life, I would rather stay away from such controversies. The intention of a film should be to entertain, not hurt anyone,” adds Nitin.

The film is very special to Nitin. “It’s a story of a timid village boy forced to go against insurmountable odds in a foreign location for his love. We have the Russian brathva, twin strippers, gypsies, assassins, corrupt cops, all going after one man. And then there comes a whopper twist in the interval which makes you see the film in a new light!” he says.

Talking about casting Rahul in the film, Nitin says, “When we conceptualized an Indo-Russian cop, Rahul Roy fit naturally in the role look-wise. Of course, to take his chocolate romance image and mould it into a deadly villain was tough. We decided to redo his hair, which was immensely copied in the 90s, and give the youth of today something new to copy with blond dreadlocks!”

The film has been shot in Russia, which was an amazing experience, says the director. “I opened up animation studios in Russia and worked extensively on post-production and VFX there. Filming in Russia came as an extension of my working there. Russia is a two-sided country. Superficially, it is beautiful both location-wise and with the most beautiful women and men on the streets. On the other hand, lies an underbelly which can get you killed if you do not know how to behave in any scenario. It was a thrill ride filming there!” he says.

He adds, “Everywhere we filmed, people would come to us and mention Raj Kapur and Bollywood. The radio channels still play Jimmy Jimmy every day. While filming a funeral scene, the band played several Hindi song melodies to us. People there love Bollywood and Indians. There was a strong spiritual connect during the whole filming which always made us proud and kept our spirits high.”

Meanwhile, Nitin’s journey to direction has also not been an ordinary one. Not many know, but the director was actually a doctor before he entered showbiz. “I was always into art, music and photography from childhood. MBBS came by chance as I scored under 100 all India entrance exam rank and got admission into the elite KEM hospital Mumbai. However, I was disillusioned with the commercialisation of doctors and distanced myself from the field after post-graduation. Medical knowledge and my medical friends always come in use. Recently, when Rahul suffered a stroke, they really helped out,” he says.

Rahul and Nitin go a long way back. “I have known Rahul for over 8 years. He had asked me to compose music for a film he had produced called Elaan. Thus, I was incredibly happy when I got the chance to cast him in my production 8 years later,” says Nitin.

Recently, there was news of Rahul suffering a stroke. Talking about the same, Nitin says that it was a huge shock for the actor as well as others around him. “I have worked with Rahul on Sayonee, then a movie called Walk in August 2020, where he plays a migrant worker, and then LAC in November 2020, where he plays an army Colonel. All three roles are dramatically different, both character-wise and look-wise. He has moulded his accent, body language and look for each. We have grown incredibly close and I think of him as family. During the last shoot, he warned me that I dare not do any film without him! The stroke was a shock but as a doctor, I know sickness is a part of life and we must move forward stronger than before. He will recover very well, is what I can guarantee,” says Nitin, who has been an ophthalmologist before starting out in showbiz.

Nitin is also a music composer himself, yet he didn’t choose to do the film’s music on his own. “I love being a multitasker but as a composer, I know music, apart from being incredibly creative, is also deeply technical. If I am unable to give it enough time being involved with writing and direction, I would be doing the audience an injustice. That’s why I decided to hand the musical baton to youngsters who would work on the music with the time and effort it deserves. I did maintain strict supervision during all aspects of music though!” he says.

Talking about casting newcomers Tanmay Ssingh and Musskan S as the lead pair, Nitin says, “We went through a rigorous audition because the lead, especially the hero, needed to have Aamir khan’s chocolate boy attractive looks mixed with Tiger Shroff’s action persona. The film has two different avatars, a simple village kid who converts to a vengeance spouting killer in Russia. The action sequences are tough and very real, without green screen and body doubles. The hero had to fight underwater with 7 feet Russians, hang from under racing trucks, run through live explosions, rip the throat off assassins while hangings upside down and handcuffed. The lead was cast as a result of the audition. No established actor could have done these sorts of stunts.”

The filmmaker has been in the industry for a while and says it has grown by leaps and bounds. “One major difference I see is that between spools of film and digital, the director is no longer restricted to the amount of reel time has to film. Film was much more expensive and limiting. Apart from that influx of streaming, content has opened up the audience sensibilities to ideas they would not have explored maybe 5 years back. Content is more valued now than star power,” he says.

He adds, “With streaming content, audience’s mind has opened up to new and exciting ideas, where earlier they were only exposed to masala all in one package. High concept ideas like Walk and LAC can be explored with more commercial viability. We have filmed LAC as Indian films industry’s first single-shot movie set over a few hours, which would have been unthinkable a couple of years back.”

That’s not all! “We used real machine guns and ammunition for all action scenes. In fact, I went beyond that and used real explosions that our actors had to run through. I hired a military training ground for the sequence. Of course, the pyrotechnic experts there made sure everyone was kept safe but we can’t imagine filming a similar sequence in India!” The action was real too, says the director. “Other sequences had our hero storming through a mansion and taking down the mafia in a hand to hand combat underwater in a jacuzzi. In the subzero weather, even the crew members wanted to get in the steaming jacuzzi!” he exclaims. The film stars Rahul Roy in the lead role and will be releasing on the 18th of December, 2020.
