#SonyEntertainmentTelevisions slice of life drama ‘#JagannathAurPurviKiDostiAnokhi’ has tugged the hearts of the audience with its endearing narrative that gives a fresh perspective on relationships. Revolving around the unique bond of friendship between Jagannath (#RajendraGupta) and Purvi (#IsmeetKohli), the on-going track has piqued the interest of the audience with its high octane drama arising from Alok betraying Jagannath’s trust by mortgaging the ancestral house without his consent to Purvi being pregnant. Things have definitely got complicated in Jagannath’s life. It is rightly said, ‘if there is a will there is a way’, and proving the same will be the distorted Jagannath who will try to turn things around and deal with both the situations with a calm and positive outlook. Actor Rajendra Gupta shares his view on this interesting trait of Rajendra Gupta, saying, “Jagannath is a man of experience, and so he knows what goes around comes around. Every action has a reaction, you reap what you sow. Still, Jagannath strongly believes that there is always a reset button in life and what’s needed to move on is the support and love from loved ones. Kusum and Jagannath are devastated to see how their son betrayed them. At the same time, they are concerned for Purvi and her pregnancy. Right now, Purvi is in a state of mind that has her giving up on life, something that Jagannath strongly disapproves of. After everything Purvi has done for them, showing them love when their own children did not, it is only right that Jagannath now will stand with Purvi as she starts this new phase in her life. He wants to make Purvi understand her worth, and why her life is not something which can be thrown away in the blink of an eye. So, Jagannath has promised to be her pillar of support, someone she can lean on when the world seems against her. Truly this is a commendable trait of Jagannath Mishra, a man who has old schooled of thoughts, but this pure and beautiful bond between the two has made him see and deal with things in a very different manner.”

Set against the backdrop of Banaras, the show will take the viewers on an endearing journey of an elderly gentleman, #JagannathMishra finding his lost sense of life’s purpose through a young stranger-turned-friend Purvi. Presenting this heartwarming friendship with the character of Jaganath Mishra, an old conservative family man who is always been rigid and socially inept in life, is the talented veteran actor Rajendra Gupta. Having worked in numerous films and TV shows, Rajendra Gupta is all set to leave a mark in the hearts of the audience with his character Jagannath Mishsra in Dosti Anokhi. In a candid conversation with Jagannath Mishra, here’s what the actor had to say about the show’s concept and his character.

You are returning to television after a brief period, why did you decide to take up this show as your return?
I personally love stories based on real human connection and relationships. They touch your heart and as an audience, you’re able to relate and resonate with them. As the name also suggests, Dosti Anokhi highlights a beautiful and unique friendship between a 72 year old man and 23 year old girl who come from different walks of life and yet find comfort and solace in each other’s company after a lot of friction at first.

The announcement date of Dosti Anokhi is out and viewers can’t keep calm. How excited are you?
I couldn’t be more excited! My friends and family are also eagerly looking forward to it. I believe it’s a kind of story that has not been showcased before on television. It’s like a breath of fresh air. So, yes I am very excited.

You started your career with television and the space has evolved immensely when it comes to content, what do you have to say about it?
Yes, it has evolved in terms of variety, scale of performance, superior content creation and more. So, it’s an exciting time to be an actor and performer because with time, even the audience has evolved.

How is it working like with Sushmita ji and Ismeet ?
Susmita Ji is a wonderful co-star, I have known her since many many years now. She’s a dear friend. Not to mention, she’s an actor beyond par excellence. So, sharing the screen space with her is a very insightful experience. And Ismeet is also a delight to work with. All of us get along really well and it doesn’t really feel like we are working when we are together.

How has your experience been shooting in Banaras? Any specific moment that you would like to talk about?
Banaras has been exceptionally great. It’s been a treat to shoot at such beautiful location instead of our typical studios. People of Banaras are so incredibly warm and the food is just amazing. One specific moment that comes to my mind is when I had to take a dive in the numbing cold water of Ganges for a scene. I was nervous at first, but when I saw the end product, it was all just worth it.

What should the audience expect from this show?
The audience should expect a heart-warming tale of two individuals who are battling different issues in their lives but unexpectedly find comfort, solace and a friendship in each other. It’s a story of pure, unconditional equation that two drastically different individuals share.

What do you like the most about your character? How is it different from what you have done in the past?
I like that while he is a short-tempered, frustrated at life old man, but when life throws him a curveball and comes this bright bubbly girl, slowly but eventually, he becomes open to change. She helps him open up and he lets her do that. So, that was a really endearing transformation of my character that everyone will witness. It’s different from what I have done in the past because the story and its essence is very unexplored. So, naturally, my character is also new and exciting.

Review : Action-loaded entertaining gangster-cop drama : ‘Mumbai Saga’!

The current situation in Maharashtra state wherein police, politics and crime is in the limelight reminds one of the films of eighties-nineties wherein gangster-politics-cops nexus used to be prevalent. Looking at the Sanjay Gupta directorial, Mumbai Saga, which is inspired from the true events of eighties and nineties, nothing much seems to have changed. It’s again a cops and gangster movie just like his earlier Shootout at Wadala with John Abraham and not to forget Shootout at Lokhandwala. In 80s and 90s, it is believed, criminal gangs used to operate the city, of course with the blessings from the authorities and their political masters. The same is depicted in Mumbai Saga which is allegedly based on the life of the Maharashtrian gangsters who was known for his daredevilry and had Mumbai, then Bombay, in his pocket. Obviously the socio-political undercurrents helped him and brought his down fall too.

Our audience loves anti heroes and in mumbai Saga John Abraham plays one. In the mid-eighties, when Mumbai was still Bombay, Amartya Rao (John Abraham) is interested in body building, carrom and spending time with his ‘Tapori’ friends (Rohit Roy and others). His father (Rajendra Gupta) sells vegetables on a railway bridge for which he, like all other vendors, has to shell out ‘hafta’ (bribe) to the local goons who are under the shelter gangster Gaitonde (Amole Gupte). Amartya’s brother Arjun (Prateik Babbar) is thrown down the bridge by the very goons. When Amartya comes to know of this his blood boils and he chops off the hand of the goon who threw Arjun down. There are massive fights and Amartya is jailed with a pressure on the police from Gaitonde. After another massive fight in the jail he is bailed out by local politician Bhau (Mahesh Manjrekar) who takes him under his wings and allows him to flourish in the underworld. He marries his girl friend Seema (Kajal Agarwal) and packs his brother to London, away from the Mumbai gangsters. Meanwhile mill owner Sunil Khaitan (Sameer Soni) gives ‘supari’ (contract killing offer) of Amartya to Gaitonde, because he wants to seel the mill, after killing his father, and make loads of money, instantly. He is assassinated by Rao and his gang and Khaitan widow (Anjana Sukhani) offers Rs10 reward for eliminating Amarta Rao. In comes Inspector, who is an encounter specialist, Vijay Sawarkar (Emraan Hashmi) and the gangster-cops drama take another interesting turn. What happens next is best to watch on big screen in theatres.

Sanjay Gupta is an expert in this genre and packs punch in the storyline. The screenplay is elaborate but there aren’t many dull moments in the film. It’s been smartly directed and reminds viewers of the nineties ‘Dhishum-Dhishum’ films. Action encompasses the major premise of the film and the action, though not novel, is neatly desighned which’ll get ‘Sities’ (whistles) in single screens. Cinematography is good and the art director has ably created the ‘period’ settings. Music is okay and background score helps the drama and action in the film. Special mention should be made for the dialogues of the film. They are exceedingly good and make the film more watchable and entertaining. John Abraham’s physique is noticeably excellent and helps his character. His action scenes are highlight of the movie and performance wise too he has dished out nicer portrayal. He gets brownies points with author-backed dialogues and Emraan Hashmi too has encashed his well written lines. He too performs well, though he enters the scene after interval. But John Emraan’s one liners’ ‘jugalbandi’ will cater to the masses abundantly. Others, Kajal Agarwal, Rohit Roy, Anjana Sukhani, Sameer Soni, Gulshan Grover, Prateik Babbar do good job. Mahesh Manjrekar’s portrayal reminds one of a political heavyweight of 80-90s and he has done a superlative job.

Mumbai Saga is an action-loaded entertaining gangster-cop drama, fit for big screen.
