As seen in the trailer, Nikita Dutta plays Poonam, her portrayal is a testament to her ability to dive deep into her roles and bring authenticity to complex characters. Reflecting on her role and the connection she felt with the character of Poonam, Nikita shared, “I think it’s great. You know, I am actually Punjabi, and the funny thing is I’m not very fluent when it comes to speaking in Punjabi. My relatives and my extended family they call me a ‘Farzi Pujabi’ because I have not really spent too much time living over there. So, for me to play this Punjabi kudi was like going back to my roots; in my head I used to always think about how my relatives would talk or how people in my village behaved. I feel like that was a reference I constantly had in my head, more than anything.”

Speaking further about her experience on the show, Nikita revealed how portraying Poonam allowed her to reconnect with her roots and rediscover a part of her heritage. “It is one of those things that you always long to because you have seen people around you dress up this way and talk this way I feel like through the show I have gotten to do that, and of course they had to work a lot in my Punjabi dialect. A lot of times their used to be an English touch that would come, but ya, I have really enjoyed it.” She noted that despite her relatives teasing her about being a “farzi Punjabi” in the role, it helped her reconnect with the cultural aspects she had not fully embraced before.

Further sharing about her preparations for the role she shares, “For Punjabi accent, we had a dialect coach he used to make me sing songs in Punjabi. He used to make me scream and yell out numbers. There’s something known as ‘Punjabi Tappe’, which is like folk songs, so we used to basically jam on that to get some clarity.”

When asked about the plethora of women-oriented movies, web series being presented, and being praised by critics and fans along with the question, if OTT has contributed to this in a positive manner, Ram Madhvani said,”This is one of the questions that has been coming my way. Neerja was also a women oriented subject, Aarya is also a woman oriented subject. I don’t choose them as they are women oriented, I choose them because I’m interested in the character, in the story, by what I want to say, by the themes and I think in Season 1, it was Dharam. What would you do? What are your duties? What are your responsibilities as a daughter as a wife as a mother? I think those questions were asked and in Season 2, you’ll see questions which are posed to the society, as a value system because I think that’s really what I’m interested in putting out.

I don’t know whether OTT has contributed towards this or not. Even television shows for many many years before OTT came in, also had women oriented content, what they are now called as ‘Tele-novella’ which are long running shows and series. Sometimes they used to come in the afternoon on traditional TV. No, I don’t think that has made any difference. What OTT has certainly done is, it has made a lot of work available for everybody, certainly for the talent.”

The second season of Aarya follows the journey of a mother combatting the dark world of crime and enemies closing in on her family and children. Will her family continue to be her strength or will her own trustworthy people turn against her? Sushmita Sen will be seen reprising the role of Aarya Sareen and she will be joined by actors Sikandar Kher, Vikas Kumar, Mayo Sarao, Ankur Bhatia, Akash Khurana, Dilnaz Irani amongst others.

Talking to host Kapil Sharma who asked them whether the film was actually completed in ten days, Kartik Aaryan who plays protagonist Arjun Pathak in the movie said, “Iska poora shrey Ram Madhvani Sir ko dena chahiye kyunki jis tareeke ka woh shoot karte hai, woh bohot hi unique style hai. Maine jitni bhi filme ki hai, humne jitna bhi aam taur pe kaam kiya hai, iss tareeke ka film making kahin pe nehin hota hai.” Adding on to the experience, Mrunal Thakur said, “It’s a privilege you know for actors like us. First time yeh experience tha. And now you know, humesha main Ram Sir se milti hoon toh kehti hoon, ‘Sir aapne bohot bigaad diya hai’.”

Kartik Aaryan also revealed how he did not know that this was the plan all along, to complete the film in ten days, “Actually, mujhe baad mein bataya tha Sir (Ram Madhvani) ne ki yeh mera ek tareeka hai. Toh yeh jo dus din ka shoot tha, isme kabhi timeline pata nehin tha mujhe. Mujhe baad mein unhone bataya ki maine chapters mein divide kiya hai jaise woh chapter 1, chapter 2, chapter 3, aise nau chapters mein divide kiya hai, nau se dus din mein khatam kar lenge. Toh main pehle shock ho gaya tha! Nau se dus din mein short film nehin ki thi sign sir, feature film sign ki thi. Toh unhone bola main aise hi shoot karta hoon aur yeh karunga iss film mein and, uski wajah se iska thrilling experience all the more badh gaya.”

Neerja director Ram Madhvani recently launched his own production house Ram Madhvani Films along with Amita Madhvani as the co-producer and following the launch, the banner also released its first web series ‘Aarya’ on June 19. The show has already received an incredible response from the audience and the critics. There is a lot of positive buzz about the show. The appreciation for the directors and actors is plenty and deservedly so. But there is one more element which is being praised and that is their conviction in backing a script like this as producers. In the case of Aarya, the director himself is one of the producers. So, sharing his experience, Ram Madhvani says, “Being a producer and a director at the same time is a plus point. Also, it is important that everything goes hand-in-hand and has a 360-degree rhythm. The 360-degree rhythm comes from controlling every aspect of the production. We believe that a shoot is not just organized, it is hosted”.

Talking about being a producer and a part of the creative process, Amita Madhvani shares, “To make a film or a series, the vision of both the directors and the producers should meet. This makes it easier to execute an idea. It is a myth that producers aren’t involved in the creative aspect of the film/series. They are. And they need to protect the vision of the creators/directors. That is why we have a 360-degree vision”

The executive producers are the ones who are responsible for all the operations throughout the process. Sharing about this, the executive producer of Aarya, Sia Bhuvan says, “It is a huge responsibility to be an executive producer as you have to be hawk-eyed. You should know what is happening in a 360-degree way and that nothing comes in between the vision of the writers and directors and its execution. Right from the days of writing to casting and then post-production, Amita Madhvani as the co-producer and Rhea Prabhu and I as executive producers have been on board to supervise and protect everything.”

The other executive producer of Aarya, Rhea Prabhu says, “Even in the post-production we all have to be very cautious and focus on retaining the team’s vision. Our supervision and protection has to be precise as it impacts the audience response to the series. And since most of our post-production was done from all our respective homes during the lockdown, we had to be extra vigilant. Thanks to the full post-production team that even though the post was done in lockdown it yet does not seem like there have been any compromises. This is called 360-degree supervision and care and protection.”
