Not even a pandemic can stop a star from shining, Rajkummar Rao against all odds has given back-to-back blockbuster hit films this year. Even after being the first major theatrical release post the lockdown, the actor’s latest film, ‘Roohi’, is minting huge numbers at the box office. As it turns out the film also became Rajkummar’s 3rd highest all-time opening weekend grosser.

Touted as the audience magnet puller, Rajkummar is truly unstoppable this year. While his Amazon Prime Original film, ‘Chhalaang’ became a massive family entertainer, ‘Ludo’ went on to be a huge success, churning impressive figures on Netflix.

Not only did his film, ‘The White Tiger’ became one of his most celebrated and acclaimed work, but also won him international laureates by being nominated for Oscar and BAFTA.

Hailed for his versatility, the actor’s last all four offerings belonged to completely different genres. While ‘Chhalaang’ was like a light-breezy comedy, ‘Ludo’ showcased him as a quirky one-sided lover. Acing the serious complex role of Ashok in ‘The White Tiger’, the actor made the audience taste the horror-comedy once again with ‘Roohi’.

Riding high on a power-packed year, Rajkummar is already working on interesting projects to recreate the same magic next year.

Jio Studios & Maddock Films have been instrumental in bringing back the magic of cinema with their much-anticipated  horror comedy film, ‘Roohi’. The makers held a special screening of the film just before the release and Bollywood came to relive the magic of ‘bada parada’ with Roohi.

In recent times there’s a spurt in movie sequels. When a movie is successful at box office, there’s a trend to come up with it’s sequel thus cashing in on the success of the original. But many of these sequels have not met the same fate as of the original, most of them bombing at the box office. A couple of years ago Rajkumar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor starrer ‘Stree’ was released and this horror comedy was an instant hit with the audiences which entered 100 crore club too. A sequel to it is ‘Roohi’ (which was formerly titled Roohi Afza) which has Rajkumar Rao, Varun Sharma and Janhvi Kapoor in the lead. Frankly speaking Bollywood has not indulged in horror-comedy genre frequently. But Stree’s success has paved the way for the film makers to indulge in horror comedy genre. Director Hardik Mehta (Kaamyaab) has tried to his best to entertain audience with a horror-comedy movie ‘Roohi’.

In a small town, Bagadpur, lives two young friends, Bhawra Pandey (Rajkumar Rao) and Kattani Qureshi (Varun Sharma) who work as reporters for Zalzala newspaper and also help Gujiya Shakil (Manav Vij) who is a contractor of ‘Pakadiya Shadi’. In Pakadiya shadi a girl is kidnapped to marry off to whoever gives a ‘Supari’ (contract). In one of the instances Roohi (Janhvi Kapoor) is kidnapped in daylight by Bhawra and Kattani and since the marriage gets postponed and later cancelled they are stuck with her. In the meanwhile it is revealed that Roohi has a split personality and a spirit enter her body named Afza. Bhawra has already started liking Roohi and strangely Kattani enjoys Afza’s company. It becomes a love triangle of a different kind, where two guys are in love with a girl with two personalities. But who gets whom and how is the crux of the story which tries to send chills as well as make the audience laugh.

The story disappoints and it does not rise to the standard of Stree. Even screenplay seems scattered and it required a trim to make it more gripping. But the direction is good and the director remains true to the genre and tries to entertain with one liners. He seems to be a movie buff and uses references from the iconic films like DDLJ, Titanic etc for good laughs in the situational comedy scenes. One thing for sure is that film scores with it’s punchy one-liners. Rajkumar Rao presents an extension of his Stree character and has used western UP dialect and mannerism to show his versatility. But at times his speech or dialogues are not properly audible. Janhvi kapoor is good as both timid Roohi and chilling Afza. CG has helped her portray Afza character but sadly she doesn’t have much screen time as well as dialogues. Varun Shama scores big with his comic timing and his passing one liners too are funny. Songs Panghat and Nadiyon Paar are good and background music tries to help hard to the mood of the movie. 134 minutes are too long for a movie like this and proper editing would have benefited in creating expected impact.

Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkumar Rao’ fans will certainly enjoy theatre experience of horror-comedy ‘Roohi’!

After a year long wait, a Bhediyastic surprise took over theatres as B-town’s coolest on screen couple was spotted watching Rajukmmar Rao, Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Sharma starrer Roohi on the big screen.

Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon, along with the cast and crew of Bhediya, were in high spirits about returning to the cinemas to enjoy a full blown entertainer. The two stars were at a movie hall after almost 12 months, and their joy of coming back to the theatre was quite palpable.

While the Badlapur star was at his candid best, excited that the magic of movies arrives in our lives again, Ms. Sanon couldn’t keep calm either, overwhelmed of catching a film on the big screen “after ages”.

The pair even took to Instagram to share their happiness. Kriti tweeted about the film too, showering praises on the cast and giving a big thumbs up to the laugh riot, apart from being delighted about her big screen experience.

Jio Studios and Maddock Films are all set to bring back the magic of cinema to eagerly awaiting cine goers with their much-anticipated film, horror comedy – Roohi, releasing worldwide on 11th March 2021, to celebrate cinemas finally getting the green signal to operate at 100% capacity.

After the massive success of Stree (2018), the team reunites to further build the cinematic universe in the family-friendly horror-comedy franchise with the much-anticipated Roohi. The incredibly talented Rajkummar Rao is back with Janhvi Kapoor in a spectacular role and audience favourite Varun Choocha Sharma.  The trailer of Roohi will be unveiled on Tuesday, 16th February.

Backing a new director as they have in the past, Roohi is directed by Hardik Mehta and written by Mrigdeep Singh Lamba, and the makers of Roohi hope to pave the way for films slated for a theatrical release with the first major 1,500 screen plus pan-India release this year.
