“Rupesh is like my family. He got me Saathiya… and it is my best role ever. He has always stood by me like a true friend,” says the actor.

Recalling more about the Saathiya days, he adds, “One thing that I can never forget is that when he got me the show, he didn’t charge any commission or anything knowing that I was very new and I might need the money and everything. He never asked me anything in return and I am grateful for the support he gave me when I needed it the most.”

Mohsin Khan, to whom he got the show Nisha Aur Uske Cousins also commented on his post. The actor said, “Because this guy would run to do auditions with the actors… make sure the actors know their lines well. Casting director Rupesh Sonar has advised newcomers to go back home during pandemic times and wait for final call!

Casting director #RupeshSonar who is in the business for 17 long years, feels music videos are in trend because the audience wants their favourite actor to do music videos. Rupesh recently managed Sharad Malhotra in a music video titled Bepanah Pyaar which also featured Surbhi Chandna was a huge hit. He says,”Audience wants to see their favourite onscreen couple in a music video and that’s the reason it’s trending. There was a time in my career in 2006-2007 when I used to be cast for music videos. At that point of time all the newcomers who were good looking and enterprising used to get a chance. But now the scenario has changed. It is more about popular faces now. The actors are also interested because it’s a break of the monotony from the tv scene and they get to shoot in a new location.”

Since last year there is too much of unpredictability and uncertainty in the TV industry, how are you dealing with that? “Sometimes even we don’t understand what’s going on around us. Casting during pandemic is difficult, it’s only a self-test. I have told all the newcomers, strugglers, who are looking for work they should go home now for the time being. And keep sending self-test and wait for the final call for the shoot.” Talking about his future as a casting director Rupesh says,” Apart from tv and music videos I have also worked in web series which will come soon and I have also started artist management. My focus is to keep working with honesty.”

Actor Amal Sehrawat says that this is the best time to be part of showbiz!

Amal Sehrawat opines that the competition is increasing but so are the opportunities to showcase your talent today. He also maintains that this is the best time to be part of showbiz as there are a lot of platforms that are available today to showcase your talent. The actor says that there are a lot of opportunities to grow as an actor today. “This is the time for parallel growth. If competition is increasing, so are the opportunities and mediums to showcase your talent. It’s the best time for actors and creatives to explore their craft,” he says.

Meanwhile, the actor is great friends with casting director Rupesh Sonar and says that the two share a great rapport. “Rupesh and I collaborated professionally but have become very good friends now. He’s a thorough professional with lots of experience and always gives me sound advice,” he says.

The actor says that today casting managers have become an integral part of the industry. “A casting manager is a bridge between an actor and a production house. It’s not possible for an actor to reach out to all producers for work. This part is taken care of very well by a casting manager. He pitches an actor in the best light,” he says.

Increased usage of technology during lockdown satisfies casting director Rupesh Sonar

Television casting director and coordinator has been a well known name in the world of television. His body of work, which spans over 20 years, has discovered best talent in the industry. Looking back at his journey, Rupesh recalls how technology has made things easier for everyone now. Although his starting was very different.

“I started my journey at a time when mobiles had just come. Now things are so easy. Earlier we used to take photos and portfolio of talent and go from one production house to another. Now Instagram and whatsapp has come, things have become easier,” he says.

With the growing platforms and opportunities for youngsters and so much exposure, aspiring actors also have a different approach.

“Now the new kids are used to making tik tok videos and everything. They might be hesitant in going to studios but as very confident facing the camera. So, they bave become accustomed to making videos from home and sending. Specially in the lockdown time, they have the chance to send audition tapes from their hometowns and not physically be present,” he says.

Casting director Rupesh Sonar states that the Nepotism doesn’t exist in television industry

Well-known television casting director Rupesh Sonar has been discovering a talent for the industry from last 20 years. The seasoned casting director says that the debate of nepotism doesn’t hold relevant for the television industry.

“In television, we always give chance to new people. There is hardly any case, with some exceptions where a producer’s son or daughter gets priority,” he says.

Pointing out the difference between the journey of a star kid and someone who doesn’t have a backbone in the film or television industry, Rupesh says, “Of course struggle is more for outsiders. People who come from outside the industry need to be told that they should take an acting workshop or grooming workshop. So, they need to learn. They come here and learn but star kids are groomed in a certain way from their childhood. For them, they don’t need to learn so much. Of course they also work hard but their grooming happens at home. But that doesn’t mean that newcomers don’t get work or star kids don’t work hard.”

However, he feels it is normal for actors to push their kids in the same line of work. “I don’t think nepotism is that much. When someone like a Rajesh Khanna came in the industry, he didn’t have anyone in the industry. Now when he became a superstar, he would obviously want his children to be in the industry. If I am a sonar and I have a Gold shop, then I will definitely take care of it as my parents did. If this is nepotism, then it’s everywhere,” he says.
