The series will encapsulate her journey from being an imperial courtesan to choosing to become a Buddhist nun. It will capture a gamut of emotions and vicissitudes experienced by Amrapali, who finally renounces all luxuries and adopts celibacy as a Buddhist devotee.

Filmmaker Sandeep Singh said, “Amrapali was known for her beauty and grace and was one of the strongest characters in the history of India. I could not see anyone but Ankita Lokhande, who has surprised everyone with her spectacular performance in my film ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar.’ She is just right for the role as she has all the attributes of a charming princess and a nagarvadhu, as she is also a great dancer. Ankita emotes beautifully through her eyes, which will capture the essence of Amrapali.”

Ankita Lokhande said, “I have received immense appreciation across the globe for playing Yamunabai in my film ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar,’ because of which I have been getting film offers with strong performance-oriented characters. But I need to choose wisely, and yes, after ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar,’ it’s Amrapali. I will be making a few more good selections soon. Amrapali will be a surprise for me and the audience. Music composer Ismail Darbar said, “After ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ and ‘Devdas,’ ‘Amrapali’ will be the most challenging musical journey for me because this story is about a dancer who, disheartened with life, adopts spiritualism. There will be ten songs of various hues capturing the opulence and the divinity of Amrapali.”

It’s a first-of-its-kind endeavor in Hindi cinema, where filmmaker Sandeep Singh has taken an initiative to document the plight of transgenders and widows in an attempt to raise awareness among the people. Singh said, “The World of Safed is all about who the transgenders and widows are – just like us – human beings. It’s an honor that our documentary has been selected by the 14th Dadasaheb Phalke Film Festival.”

Sameer Hallim said, “I feel honored for my debut documentary, The World of Safed (Documentary), being officially selected for the 14th Dadasaheb Phalke Film Festival. The documentary features real-life transgenders and widows sharing their ordeal of dealing with society and the people at large. It reflects a dark reality. I wanted to be the medium through which they could broadcast their grievances. Hence, I decided to make this documentary.

Meera Chopra, who essayed the role of a widow Kaali in Safed said, “The World of Safed is just an effort to make them feel wanted, and giving them acceptance and legitimacy. The documentary being officially selected at the 14th Dadasaheb Phalke Film Festival makes me proud of being a part of this film.

Acknowledging the courage of the transgenders, actor Abhay Verma, who essayed the role of transgender Chaandi in safed, said, “The World of Safed is my answer to why I chose to do the film Safed. Safed, is a love story between a widow and a transgender, and the character of Radha, a transgender, is shown enduring extreme emotional upheavals, with no identity.

Today, the makers officially announced the filming of ‘Main ATAL Hoon’. The movie will revolve around the life and political career of India’s beloved leader, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee who was not only a politician but also a poet, a gentleman and a statesman. Commencing the shoot in Mumbai, the team will have a long schedule of more than 45 days covering different parts of our country like Mumbai and Lucknow.

We went through rigorous reading sessions, to understand the dialect, his lifestyle and his vision for India. Randeep will be essaying the role of controversial freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. The film is expected to go on floors from June 2022 and will be shot across various locations in London, Maharashtra and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Sandeep Singh who acquired the rights to tell the story of Savarkar, while making the announcement on the freedom fighter’s 138th birth anniversary said “Veer Savarkar is revered and criticized in equal measure. He has been made into a polarising figure today but I feel that’s because people don’t know enough. No one can deny that he was an important part of our freedom struggle and our attempt is to present a peek into his life and journey.”

While many revere Veer Savarkar for his role in the freedom struggle there are others that decry him for his role in the freedom struggle and the aftermath of that along with the philosophy of Hindutva. But VinayakDamodarSavarkar’s story is one that needs to be told and it is that very emotion that will drive the narrative, says Sandeep as he announced the film.

Producer Amit B Wadhwani says, “I am happy that we are making a film that highlights the work of a freedom fighter. Veer Savarkar is an important part of India’s history that needs to be told. Unfortunately, the optics have prevented the man from being understood, let alone from being celebrated. ”
