Versatile actor Rohitashv Gour, who is currently seen in Binaiferr and Sanjay Kohli’s Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain!, is the brand ambassador for the cleanliness drive in Himachal Pradesh. Born and brought up in the state, the actor has continued his father’s tradition of organizing dance and drama competitions there, which have left the locals and the media impressed with his work. And to honor him, the state announcer chose him as the brand ambassador of their cleanliness drive.

On this, Producer Sanjay Kohli the King of Comedy also shares his feelings. He says, “We are extremely proud of Rohit Ji’s appointment as the brand ambassador of Nagar Nigam Shimla. Our wishes for him are that he achieves even more success. He has a penchant for excellent work and will undoubtedly become a great leader, making a positive impact wherever he goes. I am going to plant 100 trees, and I request everyone to do the same if they want to ensure a healthy environment for their children”.

Producer Binaiferr Kohli says, “We make a conscious effort to conserve electricity and reduce utensil usage while eating, which helps save water. We also practice water conservation while bathing. Additionally, we avoid using plastic and paper bags, opting for cloth bags instead.”

She credits the creative team for coming up with new and fresh concepts and said, “They are both creators and magicians. Among them are my husband, Sanjay Kohli, Shashank Bali, Monoj Santoshi, Harshada Potnis and Raghuvir Shekawat.”

Binaiferr feels that comedy has evolved over the years, necessitating adaptation to contemporary tastes, and added, “Failure to evolve risks obsolescence; repeating past successes isn’t sustainable. Eventually, audiences will perceive it as outdated. Therefore, evolution and adaptation are essential.”

And what about the USP of your shows? “Our USP lies in our role as creators. Our shows are like our babies. It’s about nurturing creativity, evolving alongside the times, having a stellar execution team, and having talented actors,” she ended.

With popular shows like “Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai!”, “F.I.R.”, “May I Come In Madam?”, “Jijaji Chhat Par Hai!”, and “Happu Ki Ultan Paltan”, to name some, under their banner, Binaiferr is very secure about her shows and their success. She said, “A new show in the same genre has never given us sleepless nights. There is enough work, on every channel, and I can’t be heading to every slot. It’s nice to have a bit of competition, have confidence in yourself, and reinvent and create new things. We have always been market leaders, and we will always be because we really believe in the quality of our content and having good writing, good performers, and good direction.”

However, she agrees that some actors are unable to handle success, and they can throw tantrums every now and then. And here’s what she would do in such situations, “Either you change the actor, or tolerate the actor till the serial is running. I hate changing actors, but actors also realise that over a period of time, whether it’s the spot boy or the makeup man, they do carry stories, so you are not only out of that production, but you are out of many others because behind every producer, there are 10 producers ready to produce and 10 more actors, ready for the role. Your good will takes you a long way in this industry.”

But lucky for her, she has never faced any such scenarios. She said, “Luckily for me, I have actors who are really nice. ‘Bhabiji…’ has been working for 9 years, and all my actors have been there with me for 17 years. There are people who have been with us for the past 30 years, and some who started with us are still there. So it’s nice to have one big family, and you can depend on each other. It’s a relationship of respect and being there.”

Being a producer is not easy. Apart from the zillion things that they need to take care of, handling and dealing with the cast, along with directors, writers, technicians, and other crew members, is also important. Sharing her views on this, she said, “On a set, at any given time, there are 150–200 people working, and they are from different lines. There are various different people, and in my unit, all of them are very professional, very respectful, and very caring towards each other. With 12 hours on the set, it’s important to care for each other. Of course there are bound to be arguments, but that doesn’t take away the 99 good points the person has.”

Binaiferr also shared her shooting experience and the challenges she has faced. She said that there cannot be one most difficult sequence, there could be many, adding, “Sometimes you get an actor who is not into meter. Maybe the actor is very good with standup, but in fiction, there is give and take, so it is important to get that actor into the meter.”

“Sometimes it’s difficult, as we have done a lot of shows with a lot of children, so you have to be conducive and understanding. Sometimes the little ones want to sleep so you can let them sleep and do other scenes, sometimes they have their exams, so you have to let them concentrate. It’s a little difficult, but not impossible. What really motivates us to work hard and do well is the backing of the channel. They have great trust in us, and you have to live up to it, and I thank the channel for that,” she ended.

However, both urgently need to pee, and they end up relieving themselves under the trees, not knowing that the spirits of Bhola and Bholi reside in those trees. Suddenly, Bhola’s spirit enters me, and Bholi’s spirit enters Vibhuti. Surprisingly, they share a deep bond of love, and the fight turns into a romantic scenario, shocking the entire modern colony. In a twist, Tiwari transforms into the avatar of Bholi, and they start singing and acting like Laila and Majnu. This unique twist has gained popularity because it shifts from the typical Tom and Jerry dynamic to a Laila-Majnu style storyline,” he says.

Ask him how the transition from horror to comedy is, and he says, “I have been trying my best, and it seems to be working. I’m receiving a great response for this look, and people are really liking these episodes. The combination of horror and comedy is generally well-received, especially given the popularity of ‘Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain’. Bholi’s ghostly appearance and the concept of her spirit entering Tiwari have added an interesting twist that viewers appreciate.”

“I was one of India’s leading choreographer and Sanjay Kohli, my husband, was the number one model in the country as well as an actor. When Zee was launched, we were there from the beginning. So when we were asked to do a show, we were more than happy to do it and thankfully excelled in it too,” she says.

Binaiferr feels it’s the best thing to have her better half as her work partner too. “He is the strength of Edit II. The good thing is that when you have a family member along with you, it helps. We manage different departments and excel at it. And, we don’t interfere in each other’s department except for maybe a couple of suggestions,” she adds.

Showering more praises on Sanjay, she rightly points out that he is known as “the king of comedy”.

She continues, “Comedy is not an easy genre to play around with, whether you are an actor or a maker. One episode of comedy is like five episodes of daily soap. Since we have done daily soaps also, so we know. The challenges we face here are different from the challenges we faced there. One common thing is that you have to move with time, create new situations and not repeat the same thing again and again because it worked. We have to balance the comedy so it doesn’t become slapstick and doesn’t go over-the top. These are difficult challenges we try to overcome every now and then. But we enjoy it. All thanks to Sanjay ji’s expertise, we have managed to do things in the right way.”

So how much humour do you need in your day-to-day life to stay charged? And Binaiferr smiles before adding, “Being married to a Punjabi I cannot handle anymore humour than it already is there in my life and in our shows. At times I feel there’s too much humour that cannot handle it, especially when the humour is aimed towards me.”

The cast of Edit II shows have always showered love and blessings on the couple and the team behind the camera. And, Binaiferr and company are grateful for it.

“The cast of my show shower great love and blessing especially on Sanjay ji because he is softer, while I am very strict as far as rules are concerned. I must add that it is because of these rules we were safe during Covid. I want to make sure that people come and get back home on time so that they can spend time with their families and other people don’t suffer because one person is unruly. Our cast and crew are very supportive. There is a reason why some are working with us for the last, 30-25-12 years. They are like our family. We are proud of them,” she says.

Ask her about the one dream project that they want to create and Binaiferr replies, “I have a dream project which I am in the process of giving shape to. We have been thinking and working on it for some time and happy that now we can say it’s coming to life. We are all very excited about it.”
