Ahmed Khan remembers mentor Saroj Khan on her death anniversary!

Director-choreographer Ahmed Khan opens up about the irreplaceable loss of his mentor and guru, the legendary #SarojKhan, who passed away on July 3rd, 2020. Having started his professional journey as a background dancer under her guidance, Ahmed shared a beautiful bond with the legendary choreographer. Their connection extended beyond the dance floor; she was a mother figure, a mentor, and the driving force during his early years in the industry. Reflecting on her passing, Ahmed shared how her absence has left a deep void in his life, both emotionally, and how her teachings continue to shape his work and inspire his journey.

Ahmed Khan said, “She was like a mother figure to me, and I have known her since I was a child. She always took care of me on the sets and treated me like a son. Losing her was very personal, and there isn’t a day when I don’t miss or remember her. She was and always will be family.”

For the unversed, Ahmed Khan worked with Saroj Khan in Mr. India and later went on to replace the legendary choreographer in Rangeela due to date issues. Recently, the director revealed how the tragic Pahalgam attacks impacted the last marathon schedule of the highly anticipated entertainer Welcome to the Jungle. The shooting of the movie is expected to commence soon.

In TKSS, Ahmed Khan pays tribute to late legendary choreographer Saroj Khan!

#AhmedKhan adorns his hat with many feathers, being a producer, director, writer, and maestro choreographer. While currently more focused on being a director and producer, he has previously assisted the late chorographer #SarojKhan ji in her dance pursuits. On Sony Entertainment Television’s #TheKapilSharmaShow when Ahmed Khan came to promote his production ‘Om-The Battle Within’ along with his wife, Shaira Khan, who graced the sets as co-producer of the film, let in on a secret! The model turned producer said that her husband can imitate Saroj Khan ji brilliantly, to the point where the lines between real and imitation blur!

Ahmed Khan, Shaira Khan graced the show with Aditya Roy Kapur, Sanjana Sanghi and director Kapil Verma to promote the action flick ‘Om-The Battle Within’. After a lot of coaxing, Ahmed Khan did agree to dance. Before that, he also spoke about how he rehearsed with Nawazuddin Siddiqui, to turn him into Laila, the main antagonist in his own directorial ‘Heropanti 2’. Asking him to only do hand movements for his character, Ahmed Khan said that he was inspired by Saroj ji’s hand movements when he asked Nawazuddin Siddiqui to use his wrist and hand to establish Laila to the viewers. “I have learned the art of dance and expressions from Saroj ji. Her expressions were brilliant! Whenever she used to dance, there was magic in her hands. A small part of her skills have been passed down to me and so I have achieved such success!”, said Ahmed Khan.

He then danced to the song ‘Choli Ke Peeche’ making everyone relive their memories of the legendary choreographer Saroj ji. It truly felt like Saroj Khan was dancing to the song, he danced with such grace and intuition! Wowing everyone, the guests, host Kapil Sharma and Archana Puran Singh, Ahmed Khan was showered with cheers and thunderous claps as he concluded his performance!

An enamored Archana Puran Singh then said, “This was actually a tribute to Saroj ji!”

Madhuri Dixit remembers her ‘Masterji’ Saroj Khan in Dance Deewane!

#MadhuriDixit has always mesmerized with her dancing prowess and why not as she has surely idolised the very best in the field, the legendary dancer #SarojKhan. Together they have gone on to deliver some of the most memorable and loved dance performances that the Bollywood has ever seen. This time on #Colors’ #DanceDeewane, Madhuri was seen remembering her Masterji Saroj Khan after seeing the performance of contestants Pallavi and Siza, dedicated to her. The duo give a sizzling performance to ‘Tabah Ho Gaye’ leaving Madhuri and other judges surprised.

On seeing the performance, Madhuri had tears in her eyes and said that the Pallavi and Siza were so perfect with their moves that they reminded her of Saroj Khan herself. Talking about it, Madhuri Dixit said, “Brilliant performance. Seeing you dance, it felt like I was watching her perform. It was like seeing Saroj ji stand right in front of me. When you danced on ‘Tabah ho gaye’, which was my last song with her, the memories of her teaching me came rushing back. I remember that she would always reward a deserving performance with Rs 101. Today, on behalf of her, I would like to reward you both with Rs 101!”

National award winning choreographer Saroj Khan passes away

Saroj Khan, who rose to fame from a background dancer to most successful choreographer, passed away on Friday, 3rd July ‘20, early morning. She was instrumental in getting respect to choreography and of course choreographers. In fact her firebrand campaign saw every technician in the film industry getting respect. Saroj Khan was a favourite choreographer of many leading ladies including Sridevi. But Saroj ji’s favourite dancer-actor was Madhuri Dixit. It was Madhuri’s love and respect for ‘Masterji’, Saroj ji used to be referred by Masterji by film industry people, which brought her back on film sets as she choreographed Madhuri’s song in ‘Kalank’.

Saroj Khan, whose original name is Nirmala Kishanchand Singh, had a tumultuous life. In fact she belonged to a well to do family from Pakistan.They moved to india after partition where Nirmala was born. In those days working in films was not considered very respectable, so her father asked her to change her name so that his orthodox family would not know the truth about his little daughter working in films as a dancer. She learnt professional dancing while working under film choreographer B Sohanlal. Incidentally she married, at the age of 13, her ‘guru’ who was 28 years older to her. Also she was unaware that he already had four children from his previous marriage.

Saroj Khan died of cardiac arrest early on Friday morning. She was 71. As per the reports she passed away due to cardiac arrest at around 2.30 am at the hospital. Her funeral was held on Friday morning at a cemetery in suburban Malad. She is survived by son Raju Khan and daughter Sukaina Khan.
