Hon. Maha. CM Uddhav assures full support to the team of ‘Major’!

Riding high on the huge success and critical acclaim of their latest release, ‘#Major’ grossing Rs 55 crores worldwide, the movie team, including the lead cast #AdiviSesh and #SaieeMManjrekar along with the filmmaker #SashiKiranTikka, recently met honourable Maharashtra Chief Minister #UddhavThackeray and his family.

After the reception ‘Major’ received and the impact it has made on audiences, Adivi had announced the Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan fund, an attempt to not just take the late Major’s legacy ahead but also help CDS and NDA aspirants across the country.

During his meeting with Uddhav Thackeray, Adivi discussed about Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan fund in detail, to which the CM had assured him full support. Not just that, Thackeray praised the movie and stupendous performances of the actors and also congratulated the team for making a film on such an important and relevant topic that will inspire generations to come.

The movie team was pleased to interact with the CM and his family, who also shared his own personal experiences during the unfortunate 26/11 attacks. Reciprocating Uddhav Thackeray’s best wishes and support to ‘Major’, the team also promised him to immediately arrange a screening for him and his family. Much to the surprise of the movie team, the Maharashtra CM also gifted them a book of photographs.

Taking to his social media, Adivi wrote, “Had the incredible opportunity to meet the Honourable CM of Maharashtra Shri Uddhav Thackeray. He promised to extend his full support for our MAJOR promise fund for Defence aspirants. It was an incredible moment. Thank you sir for the amazing words about our film. We will be showing the film to the entire family in the next few days. Was an absolute delight to meet Shri @adityathackeray as well. ‘Major’ trailer launched at a grand event in Hyderabad!

After much anticipation and excitement, the trailer for one of the most awaited films of the year #Major launched at a grand event in #Hyderabad, amidst the presence of producer and Superstar #MaheshBabu and actors #AdiviSesh, #SaieeManjrekar and director #SashiKiranTikka amongst others.

Riding high on emotions, the gripping trailer scales the inspirational journey of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, from his childhood to the tragic 26/11 Mumbai attacks, where he made the supreme sacrifice for the nation at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. His actions led to saving lives of more than 100 guests at the hotel.

Celebrating the spirit of the modern national hero beyond the tragic death at the Mumbai attacks, the trailer offers a deeper insight into his relationships with family and most importantly the nation!

Earlier, the makers and cast engaged with media in Mumbai and Delhi for special previews of the trailer that received a roaring response adding to the curiosity for the film.

Depicting the dedication, courage, sacrifices love and spirit of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan’s life, Major narrates the tale of our beloved hero.

Produced by Sony Pictures International Productions in association with Mahesh Babu’s GMB Entertainment and A+S Movies, Major is directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka, and stars Adivi Sesh, Sobhita Dhulipala, Saiee Manjrekar, Prakash Raj, Revathi and Murali Sharma and will be released in Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam on 3rd June, 2022.

Actor Adivi Sesh pays tribute to “Major” Sandeep Unnikrishnan

Marking the death anniversary of Sandeep Unnikrishnan on 27th November, the team of Major paid a tribute with a soul-stirring video, reminiscing the journey of making the film. Actor Adivi Sesh will reprise Sandeep Unnikrishnan’s character in the upcoming film Major, directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka.

Recalling the process of the film, Adivi Sesh recites the emotional tale of his experience, tracing the journey from signing the film to meeting Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan’s parents.

Sharing his first memory of Sandeep Unnikrishnan, Adivi Sesh says, “I can only say that he impacted my life from the first moment I knew about him. It was in 2008, I remember when I had seen his photograph, splashed across all the channels. I didn’t know what to make of it, I kept wondering, who is this man. There was some sort of madness of spirit in his eyes aur hothon pe halki si hasi, there was a madness and there was a smile, I couldn’t understand it. He looked like he could be one of my family members, an older cousin, and then I found out, he was Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan and he’d given his life for the country. I couldn’t stop looking at that now-iconic passport photograph.”

Revealing the story behind the photo, Adivi shares, “I later found out from his parents that he was simply trying not to smile badly when he took the passport picture, he’d given this big wide smile and woh photographer ne fauran daanta unko ki aise nahi haste, passport photo mein hasna nahi chahiye. So the lips were hiding his smile but that madness in spirit was shining through his eyes and I think that’s what captivated me, and captivated most of India. I think that picture is very iconic, that is why they make so many paintings of that photo.”

Recounting the battle of acquiring the consent of Major’s parents, Adivi shares,” When I first called uncle, Mr. Unnikrishnan, Major Sandeep’s father, he didn’t believe ki koi pichhle 10 saal se Major Sandeep ki zindagi pe research kar raha tha and wanted to tell a story inspired by his life. I don’t think that uncle believed ka Hyderabad ka koi South Indian ladka jo US mein pala-badha hai, matlab waha se aakar koi film banana chah raha hai. He was very cynical infact. Since they didn’t believe me, my team and I we all kept meeting uncle and aunty, I think after the fourth or fifth time, they started to trust me a little bit and I imagined this moment after the fourth meeting, uncle looked me in the eye with lot of sincerity, ‘I believe you want to make a movie about my son’s life 10%. 0 se 10 tak gaye the and sab hasne lage, we were all laughing ki chalo 0 se 10 tak toh pohoche, and there was a lot of releif behind that laughter because he believed 10% that maybe there was a chance that somebody genuinely wanted to tell this great man’s story, not for exploitative reasons but just because they believed in the kind of life this man had led.”

Opening up about an emotional experience with Sandeep Unnikrishnan’s mother, Adivi Sesh recalled, “We had already said our byes to uncle and aunty and were standing near the lift and dur se aunty ne mujhe dekha and she said ‘Idhar aao’ in heavily accented hindi, so I went to her and she looked me in the eye and she said ‘durse bilkul mera beta lag raha hai.’ She had a tear in her eye when she said that. I think that is the moment I knew, that I had their permission to tell a story inspired by their son’s life.”

About the journey of the film, Adivi Sesh added, “Ever since then, it’s just been a crazy number of many battles of trying to get this film made and making sure we do justice to how we’re doing this film and we’re still making the film.”

Explaining the importance of the day, Adivi Sesh said, “27th ko Major Sandeep shaheed hue the and so we are releasing this video on the 27th with the intention to celebrate his life. The film speaks about the way he lived, not about the way he died.”

Concluding his appeal, Adivi Sesh said, “I hope you like my humble attempt in trying to find the spirit of Major Sandeep within myself.” Directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka, the bilingual film starring Adivi Sesh, Sobhita Dhulipala and Saiee Manjrekar will be released in both Hindi and Telugu.

Produced by Sony Pictures Films India in association with Mahesh Babu’s GMB Entertainment and A+S Movies, Major is slated to release next year.

The Sashi Kiran Tikka-directed bilingual film ‘Major’ features Telugu actor Adivi Sesh as Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan and is produced by Sony Pictures India and Mahesh Babu. It is being shot in Telugu and Hindi simultaneously. Major is based on the life of the late NSG (National Security Guards) Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, who died in the line of duty, trying to save 14 hostages inside the Taj Mahal Hotel during the 26/11 attacks.

Sashi is kicked about the reunion with Sobhita. “It is exciting that we are doubling the challenges by making this film in Hindi simultaneously,” he says, while Sobhita adds, “Goodachari went on to become a critical and commercial success, so it is wonderful to reunite with the same team for a film as feisty as Major. Sesh and Sashi, who have become my friends, are people with immense clarity of thought and action.”

Speaking of the challenges involved in making a film of this nature, the actress says, “It is going to be an extreme yet tender, emotional experience. The attack gave us stories of courage, loss and tension, while also leaving behind massive wounds.” About her prep, Sobhita reveals that her character arc is “impeccably detailed and honest.” “It is integral to the narrative,” she keeps it short, refusing to divulge further details pertaining to her character.
