On the other hand, senior NCP leader Sharad Pawar, who vowed to rebuild the party, will be visiting Nashik this evening for a meeting, termed ‘historic’ by the party spokesperson. On Thursday, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) convened its National Working Committee meeting in New Delhi, chaired by the party’s National President, Sharad Pawar. The working committee approved the decision taken by National President Sharad Pawar to expel Praful Patel, Sunil Tatkare and 9 MLAs from Maharashtra for anti-party activities. They have been absolved of all responsibilities associated with the NCP announced PC Chacko. However, the rebel faction termed the meeting illegal as they claim to be the original NCP.

Senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar took oath as the deputy chief minister of the state last week. Ajit Pawar joined the Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government with 8 other MLAs and has claimed control over the Nationalist Congress Party.

“Chinese troops entered India’s border in 2020. They occupied our land. We could not push the Chinese troops back, but a new whip of nationalism was used to divert attention from the crisis. The boycott of Chinese goods and Chinese investment was promoted,” it said.

The editorial hit out at the Centre over the relief package to deal with economic crisis after COVID-19 outbreak.

“The whole world was in trouble but the US gave a good package to its citizens struggling with the economic crisis. This package is such that every US citizen will have 65,000 rupees per month in their bank account. Same happened in Brazil and Europe, but Indian citizens were left empty-handed even after the year ended,” it said.

It further said that the construction of the new Parliament building will not change the situation. “Instead of constructing a new Parliament House building worth Rs 1,000 crores, the money should be spent on the health system, as prominent people of the country told Prime Minister Modi,” read the editorial.

An editorial in Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ wondered how Rs 20 lakh crore will be raised, and opined that an environment needs to be created where industrialists, trade and business sectors are encouraged to invest.

On the path of new self-reliance, India cannot afford industrialists running away, and for that “political institutions like the ED and CBI need to be put in lockdown for some time,” it said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced new financial incentives on top of the previously announced packages for a combined stimulus of Rs 20 lakh crore, saying the COVID-19 crisis has provided India an opportunity to become self-reliant and emerge as the best in the world.

Shiv Sena said the country is being told that the package will be beneficial for MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises), poor labourers, farmers and the tax-paying middle class.

“The package (as per the Centre) will reach 130 crore Indians and the country will become self-reliant. Does this mean India is not a self-reliant country at present?” the Marathi daily asked.

It is good that PPE kits and N95 masks are now being manufactured in India, it said.

“Any country progresses ahead while learning from crisis and through struggle. Before Independence, not even a needle was manufactured in India but in 60 years, India became self-reliant in science, technology, agro business, defence, manufacturing and atomic science,” it said.

An institution like the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), which is helping in the manufacturing of PPE kits, is part of the self-reliant India, it noted.

Wondering how Rs 20 lakh crore, as announced in the central package, will be raised, the Shiv Sena said an “environment needs to be created where industrialists, trade and business sectors will be encouraged to invest”.

“India, on path of new self-reliance, cannot afford industrialists running away, and for that political institutions like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) need to be put in lockdown for some time,” the paper said.

Despite announcing the ‘lockdown-4’ and the economic package, why its impact has not been reflected in the share market? it asked.

“Investors are in a dilemma. The Prime Minister and Chief Ministers must show them trust and support,” it said.

“Earlier it was Pandit Nehru and now it is Modi. If (former prime minister) Rajiv Gandhi had not laid the foundation of a digital India, there wouldn’t be video conference of PM, CMs and bureaucracy in times of coronavirus,” the Uddhav Thackeray-led party said.

It agreed with PM Modi that coronavirus will stay for long, and lives need not revolve around it. “We need to get back on our feet again,” the Sena said.

It is now clear who is actually behind IPS officer Amitabh Gupta’s decision and on whose instructions he would have put the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government into a “crisis”, an editorial in Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ said without taking any name.

“This clearly indicates a “conspiracy plot, which could not succeed,” it said.

After Home department’s special principal secretary Gupta allegedly gave the Wadhawans a letter which facilitated their travel to Mahabaleshwar hill station in Satara district last week, Fadnavis said “it is not possible a senior IPS officer would do such gross mistake knowing the consequences on his own”.

Following a row over the issue, the MVA government (comprising the Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress) on Friday sent Gupta on compulsory leave and ordered a probe in the matter.

Defending the government over the issue, the Shiv Sena on Monday said, Amitabh Gupta was appointed in the state Home department by previous chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.

He must have trusted the efficiency of Gupta before appointing him into the Home department.”

“It is now clear and self-explanatory who has been actually behind Gupta’s decision and on whose instructions he would have put the MVA government into a crisis,” the Marathi publication said.

It is the same officer (Gupta), appointed by previous chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, who has “created trouble for the state government by favouring the Wadhawan family,” the Shiv Sena said.

“It seems some conspiracy was being hatched but could not be successful,” it said.

One of the leaders from opposition party says there should be immediate action against Amitabh Gupta, while Fadnavis claimed the IPS officer would not do something like that on his own, the Sena said.

“It clearly underscores a conspiracy plot, which could not succeed,” it claimed.

If this government had any plans to help the Wadhawan family, why would Satara district collector seize their vehicles and put them under quarantine, the Sena argued.

“The opposition in the state should ask its questions to the Centre that who was behind Gupta in issuing the letter (to Wadhawans) and what exactly has the Centre planned in the Wadhawan case, it added.

Kapil Wadhawan and Dheeraj Wadhawan are under the scanner in the Yes Bank and Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative Bank scams.

The CBI registered an offence against Kapil Wadhawan, Dheeraj Wadhawan, Yes Bank’s then Managing Director and CEO Rana Kapoor and others on March 7, an official earlier said.

Since then Kapil Wadhawan and Dheeraj Wadhawan were absconding, he added.

A court issued a non-bailable warrant against both on March 17, but they did not appear, he said.

The Enforcement Directorate also issued summons to the Wadhawan brothers in the Yes Bank case and asked them to appear on March 17. The duo reportedly cited the coronavirus pandemic and skipped the appearance, officials said.
