“It’s a matter of pride and nostalgia to see Kahaani’s re-runs being so successful every time. I am sure this time too it won’t be different. KGGK is really close to my heart and has been the calling card of my career for a long time. Kahaani was my lifeline, my first baby. In its 8 year journey, I was with the show for nearly 6 years,” she gets nostalgic.

Mitu recalls how Ekta trusted her with the show. “I was new in Mumbai and Balaji. I was passionate about the show. So when it became huge, it meant the world to me. Since then people still tell me “Oh you were the Creative of Kahaani”. I had worked hard for many other shows, but Kahaani has a very special place in my heart. Once one came to know of its stature, there was a responsibility that one had towards the show and the audience who loved it,” adds the co-director and producer of the series Nishabd.

Sharing some unforgettable instances from the shoot, Mitu begins by saying that she was always present during the shooting. She shares that the entire team, #SakshiTanwar, #DeepakQasir, #ShwetaKawatra, #SwetaKeswani, #RituRaj, #KiranKarmarkar, #GautamChaturvedi, #MansiVarma, #JayatiBhatia, #SmitaBansal, #AchintKaur, #ChetanHansraj etc, were as if growing up together while working on the.

“We became one huge gang. Later writers and directors joined the gang. They were my first friends in Mumbai. And even now, we are always there for each other. The memories created have lasted a lifetime. In fact, #SwetaKeswani was here a few months back (she now lives in the US) and we all met at Sucheta Trivedi’s house for a get-together. Even now, try and find reasons to work with each other. I made two short films with #SakshiTanwar, which went on to get international awards. In fact, in the lockdown I made a series for my #YouTubechannel Positive Thinkerz Official called ‘Seize The Day’ and ‘People Supporting People’ for which many actors gave me content willingly. Like Smita Bansal, Jayati Bhatia, Gautam Chaturvedi, Chetan Hansraj among others. Recently Smita Bansal and I did a collaborative series called SMITASHA with her and her daughters. Also, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Kahaani, we at Positive Thinkerz, made a tribute featurette that was anchored by Sakshi and 20 odd actors gave me their bytes for it too. All this was possible because of the bond and relationship we made 22 years ago. I have done many shows, but the vibe and atmosphere at Kahaani was something else, positive and full of energy,” she adds.

Fan reaction around the show was superb too, both then and now. She remembers one such incident that involved Kovid Gupta, who was a boy back then living in the US. “He was brought up on a diet of daily soaps of India. He loved Kahaani. When he met me, in his 20s, in Mumbai, as a writer, he told me his back story. He was so obsessed with the show that he and I have discussed scenes, dialogue by dialogue of Kahaani. In fact, he knew certain tracks of Kahani that I had also forgotten, which goes to show the power of the show. Another instance was meeting this non Indian saleslady at Marks and Spencers, London. She found out I was in charge of Kahaani and she quoted scenes from the show… I asked her how she knew Hindi and she said “I saw the show with subtitles”,” smiles Mitu.

The idea of recreating the show is exciting, according to the director-producer. “New actors taking on the iconic roles would be interesting to watch. Yes, the expectations from them would be huge. Kahaani was a show that was before its time, be it the poverty track or the rape track or the office track. We did a lot of experimental stuff and Ekta was our guiding light to us. In fact, now when I saw the Anupamaa’s office track doing so well, I feel overwhelmed,” she adds.

If ever a new season is made, what do you think the audience’s reaction will be? “Hopefully they will give us the same love, affection, and adulation that they did the first time around,” ends Mitu.

#SmitaBansal who stars in the teleplay, ‘#ChandaHaiTu’ says, “For me, Diwali is all about family. I am always very excited about the festive season and Diwali is one of our family’s favourite festivals. We always do a traditional puja at home, visit relatives and have a family dinner. This is the first year when our elder daughter is not with us as she has gone abroad to study and we are missing her. As far as fondest childhood memories go, the excitement was all about exchanging gifts, cleaning the house during holidays, buying new clothes and decorating the temple with my brother. My festive wish now would be to request everyone to share happiness and spread smiles in whatever little way they can.”

Veteran actor Himani Shivpuri who plays the protagonist in the teleplay ‘Rishton ka Live Telecast’ says, “The festival of lights begins for me with cleaning, changing all the curtains, bedsheets and bedcovers and of course, putting up lights. I love to decorate my house with festive lamps and with an ‘alpana’. We also do pooja at home in a subtle manner. My fondest memories of Diwali hail back to our ancestral bungalow in Dehradun where we would make lanterns and enjoy a gloriously happy, family celebration. The only message I can give to my fans at this time is to not indulge in bursting crackers. We should have learnt a lesson from the pandemic that we must value this earth as this is our only home. I also want to wish everyone a very happy, healthy and prosperous Diwali.”

Ratan Rajput, who stars in teleplay ‘Panchi Aise Aate Hain,’ adds, “This year, I have an eye infection and cannot bear any light so I will wear my dark glasses at night and light only one diya. When I look back, my childhood memories of Diwali are all about getting together with my sisters to make ‘Gharondas’, or little huts. To watch a mud house come to life was actually like building a real home. We would also buy tiny utensils and even cook rice in them! These memories remind me how joyful it is to do things with your own hands and so till date, I make a rangoli on Diwali to welcome goddess, Lakshmi. As a family, we also distribute clay toys and ‘batashas’, buy silver coins and make ‘kadhi chawal.’ As for my fans, I want to tell them to light as many diyas as they can and not just in their homes but in their hearts. Also, I request everyone to please celebrate a cracker-free Diwali as it’ll be beneficial for both us and the environment.”

Rajeev Siddhartha who stars in the teleplay,’ LOVE,’ says, “This year I am doing what I love best, which is working. I will be celebrating Diwali with the cast and crew and will pray that the festival of lights brings abundance and happiness to me and my fraternity especially after what we have been through in the last two years. As for my childhood memories of Diwali, they are all about a full house lit up with the happiness of my family and loved ones. As far as personal traditions go, I spring clean to make room for the new, in the physical and the spiritual sense. Aladdin (Siddharth Nigam) and Yasmine’s (Ashi Singh) skills will soon be put into test by none other than headmistress Rukhsar Begum (Smita Bansal).

In a bid to fulfil their mission of stealing Baghdad’s crown, Yasmine and Aladdin are forced to join the school run by Ruskhar Begum. But securing a place in this school is not that easy, Aladdin will have to prove his merit and capabilities to be crowned as the chosen one. Rukhsar sets a challenge for Aladdin where he needs to lift the legendary hammer. On the other hand, Shehzada Aladdin is not motivated to stay in Baghdad and go through these tests, little does he know that this test holds the key to a greater mission and his destiny.

On the other hand Genie of the Ring (Praneet Bhatt), senses Aladdin’s lack of motivation and decides to take matters in his own hands to encourage him to finish the task. He informs Aladdin that the only person who can teach him how to acquire the crown of Baghdad is Rukhsar Begum. Considering this as a quick road to complete his mission and return to Turkistan, Aladdin with Ginoo’s magic decides to take on the challenge of the legendary hammer. What Aladdin is unaware of is no magic can help him pass this challenge.

It has been an exciting week on the sets and these episodes will reveal new characters – Sheefan and Koyal. It has been an absolute delight working with both the artists. What I am really enjoying is this new relationship that Aladdin shares with Rukhsar Begum, me and Smita mam have a lot of fun while shooting and this new chapter has brought a refreshing change in our characters, although we continue to have the same masti on the set as usual.
