Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Most Ambitious Theatrical Line-Up for 2026!

Sony Pictures Entertainment has quietly turned consistency into spectacle. Over the past year, the studio struck a rare balance between commercial success and cultural relevance by embracing breadth rather than leaning on any single formula. Two films dominated headlines in 2025. One was Materialists starring Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal, which – driven by strong global word-of-mouth – emerged as commercial success. Even more telling was the runaway performance of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – Infinity Castle. The anime juggernaut Sony distributed not only dominated the box office but rewrote the rules of pre-booking tickets, ultimately becoming the highest-grossing international animated film of all time in India— a milestone that reaffirmed the studio’s global reach and its mastery of fandom-driven cinema. The throughline was their willingness to back distinct voices, experiment with scale, and meet audiences in radically different emotional spaces.

That momentum now rolls into 2026, and Sony’s upcoming slate spans sci-fi thrillers, prestige dramas, animation for all ages and franchise tentpoles designed for IMAX screens and premium formats. It’s an old-school studio playbook updated for a fragmented, franchise-hungry era.

Building on an eventful release slate, up next is Amazon MGM Studios’ Crime 101, releasing on February 13, 2026 and distributed by Sony Pictures International Releasing. The film offers a deeper, more explosive look at Bart Layton’s cinematic adaptation of Don Winslow’s celebrated novella. Chris Hemsworth stars as a precision-driven thief whose exploits along the 101 freeway have baffled police for years, while Halle Berry plays a disillusioned insurance broker drawn into an uneasy partnership for one final score. Mark Ruffalo and Barry Keoghan round out a cast that promises grit, glamour and character-driven tension.

The Team Behind Spider-Verse and K-Pop: Demon Hunters returns with another animated spectacle Goat. Sony Pictures Entertainment and NBA Champ Stephen Curry come together for a high-energy animated sports comedy, releasing on February 20, 2026.

Ryan Gosling is on a mission to save humanity in Project Hail Mary from Amazon MGM Studios releasing on March 20, 2026 and distributed by Sony Pictures International Releasing in IMAX and other premium formats. Based on Andy Weir’s bestselling novel directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the film follows Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling), a lone astronaut, who awakens aboard a mysterious spacecraft with no memory of his mission—or his identity.

May offers a tonal left turn with The Sheep Detectives from Amazon MGM Studios, a clever and original mystery that blends wit, heart, and an unexpected group of crime-solvers. Sony Pictures International Releasing will distribute the film starring Hugh Jackman and Bryan Cranston on 8th May, 2026 on the big screen.

June brings spectacle with Masters of the Universe by Amazon MGM Studios and directed by Travis Knight marking the powerful return of one of pop culture’s most iconic franchises to the big screen. Reimagined as an epic live-action sci-fi action-adventure releases on 5th June, 2026 and distributed by Sony Pictures International Releasing.

Evil Dead Burn releasing on July 24, 2026 is an upcoming American supernatural horror film directed by Sebastien Vanicek which serves as the third standalone story in the Evil Dead franchise following Evil Dead (2013), Evil Dead Rise (2023).

The back half of the year belongs to legacy IP. Spider-Man: Brand New Day releasing on July 31, 2026 swings into theatres with Tom Holland returning as cinema’s most beloved modern superhero — one who has never lost his popularity — alongside Zendaya under the direction of Destin Daniel Cretton. The film has intense hype as Tom Holland marks a fresh start to No-Way Home world where Peter Parker was forgotten and now facing new villains. At the same time, the surprise star cast which is yet to be revealed makes this title one of the most awaited movie this year. Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2022, delivered a historic box-office run in India, grossing close to Rs 300 cr, becoming one of the highest-grossing Hollywood releases in India. Fueled by nostalgia, multigenerational appeal, and exceptional word-of-mouth, the film reaffirmed Spider-Man’s unmatched theatrical pull in India.

Horror follows with Insidious on August 21, 2026 from Blumhouse, while Resident Evil slated for September 18, 2026, directed by Zach Cregger, reimagines the survival-horror chaos through the eyes of a courier trapped in a citywide outbreak.

Another awaited movie is Amazon MGM Studios Verity starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnso and Josh Hartnett. Directed by Michael Showalter, the theatrical release by Sony Pictures International Releasing is scheduled for October 2, 2026.

October sharpens its focus with The Social Reckoning directed by Aaron Sorkin, chronicling a Facebook engineer and a journalist who expose the platform’s darkest secrets. Sorkin follows that with Archangel releasing in November 2026.

The year closes in pure blockbuster mode with Jumanji 3 in the month of December 2026 reuniting Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and the ensemble that will make it a beloved family adventure this Christmas.

Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment Set to Release ‘Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon’!

Crunchyroll, the ultimate home for anime worldwide, announced today that it has acquired theatrical rights for the monster-sized omnibus film Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon in India. Crunchyroll and #SonyPicturesEntertainment will bring the film to theatres in India on April 11, 2025. It will be available in Japanese with English subtitles.

Adapted from the original manga created by #NaoyaMatsumoto, the anime series debuted in April 2024 and is centered around a group of characters living in a world where giant kaiju (or monsters) attack humanity and the creatures’ destructive aftermath.

Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment to Bring ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle’!

#Crunchyroll, the ultimate home for anime worldwide, announced today the India and international theatrical dates for the highly anticipated Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle. The first film in the epic trilogy from famed animation studio ufotable will come exclusively to theatres on September 12, 2025 in India, including in IMAX® and other premium large formats. The film will be available in Japanese with English subtitles, as well as dubbed in Hindi and English.

The story begins when Tanjiro Kamado, a boy whose family is killed by a demon, joins the Demon Slayer Corps to turn his younger sister Nezuko back into a human after she is transformed into a demon. The series has captivated audiences worldwide with its tragic tale of humans and demons, riveting sword fights, charming characters, and comical scenes.

The three-part cinematic movie represents the final arc and culmination of the hugely popular award-winning anime shonen series. The film will be distributed by Crunchyroll and #SonyPicturesEntertainment worldwide, excluding Japan and select Asian territories.

Tanjiro Kamado – a boy who joined an organization dedicated to hunting down demons called the Demon Slayer Corps after his younger sister Nezuko was turned into a demon.

While growing stronger and deepening his friendships and bonds with fellow corps members, Tanjiro has battled many demons with his comrades – Zenitsu Agatsuma and Inosuke Hashibira. Along the way, his journey has led him to fight alongside the Demon Slayer Corps’ highest-ranking swordsmen, the Hashira, including Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku aboard the Mugen Train, Sound Hashira Tengen Uzui within the Entertainment District, as well as Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito and Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji at the Swordsmith Village.

As the Demon Slayer Corps members and Hashira engaged in a group strength training program, the Hashira Training, in preparation for the forthcoming battle against the demons, Muzan Kibutsuji appears at the Ubuyashiki Mansion. With the head of the Demon Corps in danger, Tanjiro and the Hashira rush to the headquarters but are plunged into a deep descent to a mysterious space by the hands of Muzan Kibutsuji.

The destination of where Tanjiro and Demon Slayer Corps have fallen is the demons’ stronghold – the Infinity Castle. And so, the battleground is set as the final battle between the Demon Slayer Corps and the demons ignites.

Nachiket Pantvaidya takes charge as General Manager, Sony Pictures International Productions – India!

Today, #SonyPicturesEntertainment announced that veteran executive Nachiket Pantvaidya has been appointed as General Manager of Sony Pictures International Productions (SPIP), India.

In this role, Nachiket will oversee local Indian production while working alongside Shony Panjikaran (General Manager and Head of Sony Pictures Releasing International, India).

Shebnem Askin, EVP, Creative Production and Head of Sony Pictures International Production says, “Sanford Panitch and I are so pleased to have Nachiket join the Sony Pictures International Productions to lead our local Indian production. These are exciting times as we take a step to make and release our biggest local slate for the Indian market in the next two years. We are most excited as Nachiket brings along not only rich industry experience but also new energy and dynamic execution skills to lead SPIP to a prime position.”

Commenting on his appointment, Mr. Nachiket Pantvaidya says, “I am pleased to lead and nurture our creative and business forces to ensure that we best serve our movie audiences, especially in these dynamic times where the creative and business parameters for movie making in India are being redefined. We are aiming to scale our output to not only match audience expectations, but also to ensure that the right cohorts get to see the movie of their choice on the distribution medium of their choice. In his earlier assignments, Nachiket was Group CEO, Balaji Telefilms, Business Head of Sony Entertainment Television. He was also the Business Head of Star Plus and held several roles in the Star TV network, including Head of Star Pravah and Managing Director of Fox Television Studios. An IIM-Ahmedabad alumnus, he has also held key management roles in BBC and Disney.

As he takes up this new assignment, he will continue to perform his duties as CEO, Sony Entertainment Talent Ventures in parallel.

In the first official cross-corporation joint venture for Sony Group in India, SETVI combines the expertise and global reach of both companies, leveraging the vast pool of commercial talent and star-power in India to build investment opportunities, partnerships, metaverse solutions and more for talent.
