Sony Entertainment Television’s singing reality show, ‘Indian Idol – Season 13 will be ‘Celebrating Mukta Arts’ that was the first production house listed on stock exchange this Sunday at 8:00 PM. Joining in the celebrations will be none other than the Hindi entertainment industry’s ace director Subhash Ghai and his daughter Meghna Ghai making a special appearance on the show. The Top 12 contestants will be seen mesmerizing the judges Himesh Reshammiya, Neha Kakkar, and Vishal Dadlani along with the special guests who will be seen revealing some unknown trivia. Talking about the contestants, Debosmita Roy from Kolkata will be seen giving a melodious performance on the songs Ja Re Ja O Harjaayi (Kalicharan, 2010) & Tera Naam Liya (Ram Lakhan, 1988) creating magic on the set.

Impressed by her jaw-dropping performance, judge Vishal Dadlani shares, “You did not miss a single note in either of the songs which is not easy. Spilling some beans of the popular song ‘Ja Re Ja O Harjaayi,’ he shares, “This was the first song I recorded. I learnt a lot from Kalyan ji and Anand ji. When Lata ji heard this song, she asked for the director, looked at me and blessed me.” There’s more! Talking about the song ‘Tera Naam Liya,’ he adds, “The idea of boys wearing saree in this song came only in the morning of the shoot day. That day, we didn’t have female dancers, so we thought of making the boys dance, made them wear a saree to make the song fun. Anil Kapoor was called from the hotel to join the dance.”

Not only this, but the boys including judge Vishal and host Aditya Narayan will be seen recreating the saree moment from the song ‘Tera naam liya.’

I can relieve those moments, wherein years ago at this very stage, the stage for Filmfare, I was selected as a finalist in a talent hunt, and today I am bestowed upon the honourable Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award, all that I can feel and tell myself is that Subhash Ghai there’s alot more that you need to do. I consider myself blessed and honoured to have received this award by Mr. and Mrs. Devendra Fadnavis. Devendra Fadnavis is one of the most notably honest, capable, bright leaders that India has today. My humble thanks to Filmfare, Vineet ji, Jitesh Ji and the entire team and the jury for this honour. In the recapture of my journey presented here, they have mentioned about my school Whistling Woods which is my mother’s blessing. In 1965 when I began my career, I thought I have arrived but it was the beginning of my struggle. The struggle to approach directors, producers, just like all of us. I had given hope and so decided to write a letter to my mother mentioning that I don’t even know an accountant here, how am I going to survive in this industry. In reply to that letter, my mother mentioned, if you have taken a step forward then don’t step back along with a couple of other lessons. I feel those lessons have brought me here. She mentioned you are your biggest competition, you have to outdo yourself everyday. The more love you spread, the more love you will receive. Accept all and respect all. Character development is way superior to any other material development. If you’re a good person, people are going to stand by you in every situation, no matter what.”

He further added, “I would like to say that all my friends and acquaintances have been very supportive of me. At times I questioned if I was worthy of all the love that I received from them. I always prioritised my responsibility over my right. Struggles are a part of our lives, we mustn’t ever stop fulfilling our responsibilities and the world is ours to achieve. I have made all kinds of films, good, very good, mediocre, but all of them were made with love. I never anticipated the success of any film but always thought about will this be a good movie or not. I never anticipated the amount of moolah my film will rake but always emphasized upon generating authentic connect with the audience. If I am unable to shed a tear on the particular scene, the audience won’t. All the money that my films made, I invested the same into building my school and I feel blessed about the fact that I can teach more film makers and share my craft with them. I am blessed to see my beautiful wife and beautiful daughters relishing this moment with me. Thank you to each one of you who have been a part of my journey.”

On his consistency to outdo himself, he further stated, “Girte hain shah sawar hi maidan-e-jung me, Haar k baad hi jeet hoti hai.” At times, you go through a stage wherein people feel that Subhash ji is outdated now, how will he make movie, why he will make movie, and such questions arise but in this film, I am a story writer, I am a scriptwriter, I became a music composer, I penned down the lyrics. I was overlooking everything. It was an exciting experience.”

On being asked about his most memorable experience from the film, he mentioned, “For ’36 Farmhouse, I penned down lyrics and composed music. I am hands on with direction but acting as a lyricist and a music composer was a surely new experience for me. When I attended a musical live show on television, I was so thrilled to see all those newcomer children singing “Mausam bhi aisa, Har Manzar bhi aisa hai,” from the film. I felt ecstatic.” Subhash Ghai further re-iterated his experience on working on an OTT for this first time, “I come from a place where we need to showcase evrything larger than life on a 70mm screen with 6 tracks but OTT doesn’t work that way. You are more accountable to the audience. There is more authenticity on OTT platforms, people are attuned to a ‘real’ perspective here. It was definitely a new experience for me. I am absolutely thrilled about it and am delighted that the audience accepted it open arms.”
