Sudhir, however, feels that every festival has its own charm and it’s a good excuse to flaunt your best outfits. “I think every festival has its own charm and that’s why I don’t have one favorite festival. Having said that, Holi is something I always look forward to. I love colours and I can play with them all day long. I feel we all are very lucky that we get to celebrate so many festivals. There is something special in each one of them. Not to forget that’s the time to shine and dress up,” he said.

So what are your Diwali plans this year? “I will be celebrating it with my Ziddi Dil Maane Na team and my family,” Sudhir concluded.

“People are scared of taking risks and just want to follow the last hit format. It’s quite evident from the viewing pattern on TV and in the growing numbers on OTT platforms that our audiences are looking for more variety and different storytelling” he adds.

While many think that the content on television has evolved considerably, he feels otherwise. “I don’t agree with this. Many shows are similar to what it used to be 10 years back. We are still making almost similar stuff. And the saas-bahu era isn’t over. It seems there are only few takers for progressive and realistic content,” he says, adding that it’s time that we become realistic, explore the unexplored and experiment as the audience is ready.
Talking more about the changes he thinks should be incorporated in daily soaps, he shares, “We must narrate different stories. At least we must try! Engaging stories of hope and happiness, stories of real drama in our lives should be touched upon.”

“The response I’m getting is very good. It is being watched by the youth as they are the target audience of ZDMN. Thankfully, the concept, presentation and performances have hit the bull’s eye. The TRPs are only getting better. It feels good when your effort gets appreciated,” he says.

The actor, who has started his journey as a child artist and has been a part of a number of Bollywood classics including the likes of Bawarchi (1972), Amar Prem (1972), Chitchor and Abhimaan (1973). He has also done a number of popular Hindi TV shows. Raju is known for his acting prowess and the kind of work he associates himself with.

Sharing how things worked out for him with ZDMN and why the show is doing well, he adds, “They wanted a new twist, add to the shock factor but in a subtle way by making someone new enter the show. That’s SAB TV’s style. And, this is the reason why I got on board… I auditioned for Prem character and it worked out pretty well… This show is Sudhir and Seema’s creative brainchild. They’ve thought on a different level and it’s quite unique in its own way and that’s why it is doing so well. Otherwise in daily soaps, the same story and drama gets repeated. The young audiences who are into reality shows like Roadies and therefore like the concept, feel of ZDMN. We’ve just started but it’s been good so far.”

About how much he relates to his character, Raju says, “I play the role of an actor who has come here to train in the Parakram Academy. I relate to this character well, more so, because I come from a Bollywood background. I have done more than 150 films and thousands of episodes. My experiences have also helped me in getting into the skin of the character. I’m trying to get a little filmy in this show.”

Praising the producers of the show, Raju reasons why the show has been touching the right chord with the audience.

“Both Sudhir and Seema are warm, friendly and approachable. You can talk to them about any issue and they will help you. It’s nice to collaborate with such professional people. My last show on &TV was with Amir Jaffar. He was also nice and kind. After so many years of my television career, I’ve met these nice people and enjoy working with them. They know how to treat their actors,” he ends.

#KaveriPriyam will soon be seen in Seema and #SudhirSharma’s “#ZiddiDilMaaneNa”. In a quick chat, she talks about the show, her character Dr. Monami Mahajan, the TV industry and much more. Read on: You’re doing a show called ‘Ziddi Dil Maane Na’, the trailer of which was recently released. The response is good. How does it feel?

It feels amazing because finally the show is on floors, we have all been waiting for this for a really long time. We started with the prep work back in November when the pilot was shot. Since my audition, I was quite excited about the show, especially because of the title, which I have seen and loved while growing up. So I was thrilled and excited to be a part of this one.

Can you talk about your character?

Dr. Monami Mahajan comes from a very rich family. Her father is a doctor who owns a hospital of his own and he wants her to run it but she has some other plans. She wants to help people around because she knows that the sort of service which her father’s hospital provides cannot be afforded by everyone. She is empathetic, caring, helping, and she can do anything to help others. She gets scared, she gets nervous, she fumbles but she always stand with what’s right, and ultimately conquers her fear and goes on to achieve her dream.

What attracted you to the character? And how much do you relate to your charcater?

I love playing characters that are very close to our real lives so I connected basically to Dr. Monami’s nature. She is a very helpful person, sweet, kind and genuine sort of person. I somewhere feel the journey of Dr. Monami and mine is similar. Although I had my family’s support to come in this field but somewhere our insecurities are similar. Both Dr. Monami and I are trying to create our names in a completely different world but we both came, conquered our dreams and achieved them.

Did you do any preparation for the role?

Yes, we had a lot of script reading sessions apart from that Sudhir sir and Seema ma’am made us do this very amazing workshop under Joy Fernandes sir, who is an amazing actor. We got to learn some really new and cool stuff from him. Also there was so much to unlearn during the process because becoming a whole new character and leaving an old character behind is what we have to work a little bit more on to get into the skin of the present character. Apart from that this role demands physical strength which I am still working on so that when Dr. Monami has to do fight sequences then I am all ready for it in the show.

Pandemic has changed the way we look at career and life. Comment.

Pandemic has changed the way we look at everything in life in a great way. For me especially, the pandemic has been a lesson where I have learned to make the most of whatever opportunities I get and make the most of everyday and also give my best in whatever I do, because you never know if you will get the chance again or not. These days people have stopped living for the future and they have started living now in the present, that goes with my career and life as well.

What changes do you find in the industry over the years?

Well though I have been in the industry for three or four years now, I feel that the life of TV show has reduced and somewhere it’s sort of a challenge for everyone to make the show the best and number one. There are some shows which have been running for a really long time and they are an inspiration for us, so we have to make that happen as far as our show is concerned.

How’s it working with Sunshine Production (Seema and Sudhir Sharma).

It’s a wonderful experience working with them. They make us feel at home and at such ease. We have been given all sorts of facilities that an actor can ask for in order to work with full concentration and everything. They are 200 percent involved right from the very beginning. It has been simply great and I am really looking forward to working more and more.

So how tough was it for the production house to create a show under pandemic? “Yes there are challenges but if you have planned then it is fine to work ensuring everyone’s safety.” Sudhir’s better half Seema is equally involved in the production house, and they have nicely divided the responsibilities among them. “Seema and I set up Sunshine together because we realised early on that we work in perfect tandem. We both want to do our jobs well. We both are hands on. So there lies the commonality. I can write a full page article on how we both share our responsibilities. People come up to us and ask who is more creative and who is more into business? We really have no answer to that as we both are involved in both the aspects of creation . It’s often the story or series that defines our individual roles.”
On the show, Shaleen Malhotra will be seen as Special Agent Karan Shergill, who is a disciplinarian. His edgy beliefs have no room for sympathy towards other’s pain. Kaveri Priyam of Yeh Rishtey Hain Pyaar Ke will play Dr Monami. Actor Kunal Karan Kapoor is making a comeback with Ziddi Dil. He will be seen playing the role of Sid Ganju, a rich, spoilt brat, who is careless when it comes to fulfilling his duty. Diljot Chhabra will essay the role of Special Agent Sanjana. Simple Kaul and Aditya Deshmukh as Nurse Koel and Faizi will play a couple on the show. The show will premiere on August 30th on Sony SAB.
