HAQ trailer, starring #EmraanHashmi, #YamiGautamDhar, & #VartikaSingh, has broken the internet with its daring concept about a Muslim woman’s fight for justice. Directed by #SuparnSVarma, the film is inspired by the landmark judgement of the Supreme Court on Mohd. Ahmed Khan v. Shah Bano Begum case. The trailer was unveiled just a day ago, and it has left the internet divided like no other, leaving many talking about “converted” Muslims and how several are always behind demeaning Islam.

A string of users have expressed thoughts surrounding the film, with a user saying, “Converted mullas crying and leftist librando will say it’s propaganda.” Another says, “BJP teen talaak ban, Muslim mahilao ka suraksha kavach.”

A user expressed his views in a long comment, stating, “Jitna Islam ko badnam karne par movie banaoge utna logo main interest aata hai Islam ko padhne ka…aur jab Islam ko wo padhte hai Islam qubool karte hai ye movie kya hi kar legi Islam ka. Poori duniya main Islam log apna rahe hai or jo log apna rahe hai wo koi jahil anpad nhi hai sab acche khase padhe likhe ameer log hai. With audiences strongly reacting to the trailer, there’s an equal level of curiosity building about what’s more to unveil as the film releases. The film follows the story of a Muslim woman who demands rights for herself and her children under Section 125. As the film reimagines one of the most controversial and game-changing cases in India of the 80s, it has left the internet talking!

Produced by Junglee Pictures, in association with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios, HAQ is directed by one of the most dynamic directors today in the industry Suparn S Varma (creator of Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, The Family Man, Rana Naidu), and written by Reshu Nath. It also stars actors par excellence Sheeba Chaddha, Danish Hussain, and Aseem Hattangady, and is scheduled to release in theatres on 7th November 2025.

Muslim audiences are hailing the film’s impactful topic and are saying, “As a Muslim, good job on bringing this up.” A user wrote, “I am a Muslim and I remember the days when this used to be true. Many women used to be devastated by this. Funnily, even in Muslim countries, triple talaq is banned. Atleast in India, the triple Talaq ban has given relief to so many Indian women. This movie should make everyone aware of the sad reality of the past.” “It’s a very bold step to make a movie on such a topic, Hat’s off to the makers, Writer Director and producer. As a Muslim who has witnessed several cases, I understand the plight of a Muslim woman, the last dialogue summarizes it all “Hum sirf ek Mussalman Aurat nahi balke Hindustan ki Mussalman Aurat hain” Very excited for the movie,” wrote another user.

Another user hailed the filmmakers’ ability to make a film on a powerful topic and wrote, “Can’t wait to watch this movie…Finally someone in Bollywood got the guts to raise this issue.” A comment read, “As a Muslim, I appreciated this..it’s not a religious matter but a social issue,” and another read, “Muslim personnel law and Sharia practice should be banned in India.” One user wrote, “The trailer didn’t feel like a religious matter, instead it feels like one of the social issue to be taken care for people’s better life,” and another stated, “Kudos to Emraan Hashmi for taking this subject. Being a Muslim, it was a landmark judgement. People calling this a propaganda film should be ashamed of themselves. During the film’s trailer launch event, Emraan Hashmi also urged Muslim audiences to watch the film in theatres. “It is a pro-women film. Meri community ke liye, I felt that this is from a liberal Muslim point of view. I think this is a great piece of work. Muslims should really come and watch this film because you will connect with it, in a very different way,” he had said.
