Producers Priyanka Dutt and Swapna Dutt shared, “We didn’t want everything to be green screen thus we built almost 30 percent of the set, something like the Shambala fight with bot and all, its insane. It has been a great journey with Niraj Sanghai (Business Head of Prime Focus Group), who has been extremely helpful on the project. We have had great supervisors, and what Prime Focus Group, DNEG and everybody did for us is just phenomenal.”

Director Nag Ashwin adds, “With Kalki 2898 AD now in theatres, I’m thrilled to share my immense appreciation for the visual effects work delivered by Prime Focus, DNEG and ReDefine teams. Heading yFX is Sherry Bharda, a member of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, popularly called the Oscars. She is thrilled that YRF has contributed towards bettering the movie-watching experience of audiences globally.

Sherry admits that Indian audiences now want more wow moments from the tentpole theatrical action entertainers our country is making, having being exposed to breathtaking global action films.

She says, “Due to exposure to global cinema, people have become more aware of visual effects. They have understood what it means to see good VFX on screen. So, their expectations from the product today is heightened. We are aware of the euphoria that YRF Spy Universe has for audiences and we wanted to create a breathtaking and unique movie-watching experience for people. We worked with the vision that Aditya Chopra, Siddharth Anand and Maneesh Sharma had for Pathaan and Tiger and we are happy to have created products that have been celebrated globally.”

Netizens, who were spellbound with Tiger 3’s VFX when it hit the theatres last Diwali, are again dissecting and praising the visual effects of the film now that it has released on streaming.

Sherry admits, “We are witnessing a lot of love for Tiger 3’s VFX. We invested a lot of time on the film before the shooting started and hence the process once it went on floors became easier for us. We pre-visualized each and every action scene of Tiger 3 and that has led to the process becoming a lot more efficient.“

She adds, “Tiger 3 is a well-planned film with ample pre-production. The result is there for everyone to see. We are delighted with the reaction that we have got for visual effects in the film.”

Almost every Indian knows about the major happenings in Ramayan but here the writers have taken cinematic liberty to make it more interesting, but fail in that attempt. The narrative immediately goes into the major aspect of Ramayan, i.e. Ram’s exile (Vanvas) and abduction (apaharan) of Sita by Ravan. In fact there are more dramatic happenings in the original which is depicted through animated stills and commentary. Raghav (Prabhas), to honour his father Dasharath’s promise to Kaikeyi chooses to go for Vanvas. Shesh i.e. Laxman (Sunny Singh) and Janaki (Kriti Sanon) accompany him. Ravan’s (Saif Ali Khan) sister’s, Shurpanikha’s (Tejaswini Pandit), nose is cut by Laxman and she urges Ravan to take revenge by abducting Janaki. Ravan disguises himself as a sadhu and on the pretext of receiving ‘bhiksha’ abducts Janaki with mystical powers and takes her to Lanka. Raghav with the help of Bajrang (Devdatt Nahe), Sugriv and the ‘vanar sena’ builds a Setu (bridge) on the sea and fights Ravan to free his beloved wife from his clutches. Well as the story is well known, novel storytelling could have been the differentiator.

Om Raut has presented this epic from his point of view but a lot of things fail to appeal. The initial half is slow and lack of emotional depth making it boring. The second half has a lot of action but it doesn’t grasp the audience’s breath. In fact Lanka which is known as made of gold is shown dark and made up of stony skyscrapers. Even the major fight and the climax doesn’t give extraordinary experience. The dialogues too disappoint as at places they sound ‘Tapori’. Om Raut has made efforts to make the proceedings interesting but he should have put in more efforts. The haircuts of some of the characters are questionable. VFX and CGI could have been much better as the viewers these days are exposed to better fare in the international films, series. Music (Ajay Atul) is the saving grace and Ram Siya Ram and other few songs are melodious. Background score is good but could have been better. Prabhas doesn’t gain sympathy as he wears stoic expression throughout. Kriti Sanon has a lesser screen time but she looks beautiful justifying her selection and scores in emotional scenes. Saif Ali Khan has tried to infuse drama in his character but he overdoes it. Devdatt Nage impresses with his presence and acting chops as (Bajrang) Hanuman. Sunny Singh, Tejashree Pradhan, Sonal Chauhan, Vijay Anand, Trupti Toradmal, Vatsal Seth and others do their job perfectly.

Adipurush is an amateurish attempt on presenting Ramayan in a modern technical format.

The primary shooting of the film is already 65% completed and the last schedule will now end by April 2021. Considering the heavy VFX work on the film which is already in progress across London, Canada and LA, the film release date will have to be shifted. The film is now all set to have a worldwide theatrical release on Dussehra 2021, 15th October 2021.

Inspired by an incredible true story of Syed Abdul Rahim, ‘Maidaan’ will showcase the journey of one of the finest coaches that emerged from India, the one who put India on the global map.

Directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma of Badhai Ho fame, the film also features National award-winning actress Priyamani, Gajraj Rao who created magic with Badhai Ho, and the well-known Bengali actor Rudranil Ghosh.

Produced by Zee Studios, Boney Kapoor, Akash Chawla, and Arunava Joy Sengupta, screenplay and dialogues are written by Saiwyn Quadras and Ritesh Shah respectively. The film is set to release on 15th October 2021.

Recently, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) held a summit for preliminaries of the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics (AVGC) industry. They came together for a discussion over the changing futures of their respective career paths.

On day two of the summit, experts from the television and movie industry shared their thoughts on what drives the changes in technology. Co-Chairman of CII National Committee on Media & Entertainment, producer Siddharth Roy Kapur was on the panel. He spoke on how the current situation has encouraged makers to save time and money by realising the full utilisation of technology in place of human labour.

He shared, “With travel being as restricted as it is right now, it is amazing that we have created an environment so different from before. It never would have happened otherwise. The fact that we are getting real-time feedback on set is remarkable. The amount of time, effort and cost we are able to reduce is a novelty in itself.”

He further added, “I think producers were less confident to attempt genres that they were intimidated by in the past because of the budgets or the software that were unavailable or expensive. Today, it has actually shown us that with the right creativity and planning one can actually create something that is world-class, without having spend budgets that intimidated us in the past. I think that this is definitely what everyone is going to be looking at as we are putting out a more controlled environment on set and use technologies much more than human beings to do our production. To add to that, I don’t think this is something for the short period we will be embracing.”

Filmmakers have been using extensive technology to give their audience a better movie-watching experience. With the preferences of the audience widening day-by-day, it will be exciting to see the change in the movie-making process.
