Filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri hits back at a news report defining four-time National Award winner Pallavi Joshi primarily through her marriage following her CBFC appointment.

Recently, Agnihotri came out in support of acclaimed actor-producer Pallavi Joshi after an outlet introduced her as the “wife of filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri” in a report following her appointment to the Central Board of Film Certification. While Pallavi Joshi is indeed Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s wife, the filmmaker questioned why her independent professional identity was not given equal prominence.

Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, known as one of the fearless filmmakers of Indian cinema, has never shied away from bringing challenging and unconventional subjects to the big screen. Off screen too, the filmmaker is known for being vocal about different issues and putting forward his views.

Calling the headline “third-rate,” “malicious,” and an example of “misogynistic” journalism, Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri highlighted Joshi’s independent achievements and decades-long career. He pointed out that she is a four-time National Award-winning actor who began acting at the age of four and went on to become one of India’s recognized television stars. He also highlighted her work as a producer and creator, including producing Aarohan, a project centered on women in the Indian Navy.

Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri stressed that Joshi has built her identity through four decades of acting, television, cinema, and producing. He further criticized the patriarchal lens of defining an accomplished woman primarily through her relationship with her husband, arguing that her professional achievements deserved to be acknowledged on their own terms.

Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri tweeted, “Dear @scroll_in @tajmahalfoxtrot and @sharmasupriya, what kind of third-rate, malicious and deeply misogynistic journalism is this? Pallavi Joshi is a four National Award-winning actor. She started acting at the age of four. She had already become one of India’s most recognised television stars at a time when many of the journalists writing this story weren’t even born. I didn’t even know the P of production when Pallavi produced Arohan, a landmark work centred on women in the Indian Navy. She has produced and created more meaningful work than your collective reports ever will. And yet, when you write about an accomplished, self-made woman, you choose to introduce her primarily as “the wife of filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri.”

https://x.com/vivekagnihotri/status/2100466572863398039?s=46&t=NldEpY3n6_Z8Fa525-IrVw

Known for speaking his mind and calling out what he believes is unfair, Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri once again used his platform to stand up for Pallavi Joshi and highlight her achievements beyond her identity as his wife. Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s strong response underlines his support for her while questioning the way accomplished women are often defined through their husbands.

Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, one of the most fearless and impactful filmmakers in Indian cinema, has never shied away from bringing bold, thought-provoking, and hard-hitting stories to the big screen. Known for presenting stories rooted in truth and national consciousness, the filmmaker took to social media to remember one of the bravest and most defining moments in the nation’s history in recent times.

As India marks one year of #OperationSindoor, Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri took to his social media to pay tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and strength of the Indian armed forces and the spirit of every Indian. Sharing a powerful video and heartfelt note, the filmmaker saluted the bravery of the soldiers and stated that the biggest tribute he could offer would be to ensure that the story of Operation Sindoor reaches the world, keeping alive the sacrifice, resilience, and spirit of India’s defence forces.

Sharing the video, he wrote, “One year of Operation Sindoor: A year since India showed the world that peace is our nature, but silence is not our weakness.
Today, I bow my head to the courage of our leadership led by @narendramodi and our brave army, and the spirit of every Indian who stood united in a moment of national resolve.
And perhaps the greatest tribute we can offer is to ensure the story of Operation Sindoor is told to the world. Truthfully. Powerfully. So the world remembers what was defended, what was sacrificed, and what it cost to keep humanity alive. History remembers wars. Civilizations remember courage.

Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri is now gearing up to bring Operation Sindoor to the big screen. He will bring to life the military operation that was carried out by the Indian armed forces in retaliation for the April 22, 2025 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, becoming a significant chapter in India’s modern history.

Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s last film, The Bengal Files, emerged as a massive success and was widely appreciated for its courageous storytelling, thought-provoking narrative, and for bringing hidden truths to light. With Operation Sindoor next in line, anticipation is already building around yet another impactful cinematic story from the filmmaker.

Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series and Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s I Am Buddha Productions officially announce Operation Sindoor’, based on the book Operation Sindoor: The Untold Story of India’s Deep Strikes Inside Pakistan by Lt Gen K.J.S. ‘Tiny’ Dhillon (Retd). The film will be directed by #VivekRanjanAgnihotri.

The film draws inspiration from the codename of India’s targeted military strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, marking a defining moment of strategic resolve, courage, and precision in India’s history. It is also a cinematic response to the tragic massacre of innocent civilians, most of them tourists, in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in 2025.

Significantly, this operation marked the first time in world history that a nuclear-armed nation carried out deep, precise strikes inside another nuclear-armed nation, decisively dismantling terror camps and exposing the limitations of nuclear deterrence as a shield for asymmetric warfare.

Speaking about the project, producer Bhushan Kumar said, “Some stories are not chosen, they choose you. Operation Sindoor is one such story—one that demands to be told with honesty, courage, and responsibility. This is not just a film. It is a revelation. When a nation goes through events of such magnitude, it becomes important to document them truthfully.”

Director-producer Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri added, “This is not just a film. It is a revelation. With Operation Sindoor, India has not just taken revenge for the Pahalgam terror attack and punished Pakistan, but it has also demonstrated its might in modern warfare.

We have conducted extensive, ground-level research in collaboration with multiple wings of the Indian Armed Forces to understand not just what happened, but how and why it happened. What emerges is a reality far more complex, far more precise, and far more unsettling than what is available in the public domain.

I have always believed in telling stories that are uncomfortable but necessary. My effort is to bring this story of courage, professionalism, and strategic clarity to audiences with authenticity, while also presenting it as an edge-of-the-seat cinematic experience.

My intention is not to create noise, but to confront it—with facts, with clarity, and the magic of cinema.”

Operation Sindoor aims to bring to the screen a chapter of modern warfare that sits at the intersection of courage, strategy, and truth—not as spectacle, but as a statement.

Because sometimes, what is not known… is the real story.

Further details about the project are currently under wraps and will be announced soon.

Filmmaker #VivekRanjanAgnihotri, known for critically acclaimed films The Kashmir Files and The Tashkent Files, is gearing up for the final installment of his Files Trilogy, The Bengal Files. The film, already stirring conversation and controversy ahead of its release, aims to shed light on a lesser-known chapter of India’s Partition.

Speaking on The Right Angle with Sonal Kalra, Season 2, produced by Gautam Thakker Films, Agnihotri highlighted how Bollywood has shaped public perception of Partition largely through Punjab’s lens. “When I ask people about the first visual image of Partition that comes to their mind, everybody thinks of dead bodies coming in trains and all of this happening in Punjab. Bollywood has contributed to creating a half-truth in people’s minds. But in reality, the entire playground, the Kurukshetra, is in Bengal. Bengal has been divided thrice: first in 1905, into Hindu Bengal and Muslim Bengal, then again in 1947, between East Bengal and West Bengal, and then in 1971, when it was culturally destroyed,” he said.

With The Bengal Files, Agnihotri says he intends to tell a story one that delves into Bengal’s overlooked and painful history of Partition.

Actress turned Producer Pallavi Joshi is set to make a powerful return to the screen with her pivotal role in the much-anticipated film, ‘#TheBengalFiles’, directed by #VivekRanjanAgnihotri. Produced by Abhishek Agarwal and Joshi herself, the film dives deep into lesser-known chapters of Indian history, continuing the legacy of socially relevant storytelling seen in Vivek’s previous work.

Pallavi, known for her commitment to intense, layered characters, plays Ma Bharati, a figure meant to embody warmth, innocence, and the enduring spirit of the nation. But bringing this character to life came with its own set of challenges.

“This was one of the biggest challenges. It’s difficult to look so old. Most prosthetics made me look scary. And that was our biggest challenge. The idea was for her to look innocent and lovable. Ma Bharati needed to be warm and approachable,” Joshi shared in a statement. “My only reference was my dadi. I remember her very old but very sweet at the same time. We worked on the look for almost 6 months. I gave up all skin care during this period to make my skin appear dry. Every day I sat down working on Ma Bharati’s character, her dementia, until it became a muscle memory. Our technical team also put their efforts into helping me to their fullest. And the end result is for all to see.”

The Bengal Files is written by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri and produced by Abhishek Agarwal and Pallavi Joshi. It stars Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Anupam Kher, and Darshan Kumar. #VivekRanjanAgnihotri is gearing up with the third installment of their trilogy, ‘The Delhi Files: The Bengal Chapter’ which is now renamed as ‘The Bengal Files: Right to Life.’ The film will now be released as ‘The Bengal Files: Right to Life,’ scheduled for theatrical release on September 5, 2025. The makers of the film #AbhishekAgarwal, #PallaviJoshi along with Vivek Agnihotri have finalised the decision especially on public demand.

This film marks the third installment in Agnihotri’s “Files” trilogy, following ‘The Tashkent Files’ (2019) and ‘The Kashmir Files’ (2022). The upcoming film delves into the communal violence in undivided Bengal during the 1940s, particularly focusing on events like Direct Action Day and the Noakhali riots. Agnihotri has described these incidents as a “Hindu genocide” and aims to shed light on this often overlooked chapter of Indian history.

The film features a stellar cast, including Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher and Pallavi Joshi in pivotal roles. Despite the challenges faced during production, including safety concerns that led to filming in Mumbai instead of Kolkata, Agnihotri and his team have completed the project and are set to share this important story with audiences nationwide.

The makers had released the teaser of the film a few months ago, which featured veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty in a haunting first look, walking through an empty corridor with a rugged appearance and a white beard, reciting the Preamble to the Constitution with a burnt tongue.

The Delhi Files is written by Vivek Agnihotri and produced by Abhishek Agarwal and Pallavi Joshi. It stars Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Anupam Kher, and Darshan Kumar. The film presented by Tej Narayan Agarwal & I Am Buddha Productions is a part of Vivek’s Files trilogy that includes The Kashmir Files and The Tashkent Files.

Pallavi Joshi is a renowned producer and actress who has consistently brought impactful films to the audience. She is one of the influential personalities in the entertainment industry who never hesitates to voice her opinion. This was evident when she addressed a question about whether OTT platforms could eventually diminish the relevance of theatres.

During a recent panel discussion on NDTV Marathi, Pallavi Joshi was asked whether the reduced attention span of audiences in the digital era could lead to the decline of theatres in the future. In response, Pallavi Joshi said, “The ocean is never afraid of how many rivers are going to meet it. Likewise, Indian cinema will never be downsized by OTT or 30-second Instagram reels. The experience we get from watching a film in theaters is something we’ll never get on a phone. We should concentrate on bigger and greater stories to pull audiences back into theaters.”

Apart from this, Pallavi Joshi will be next seen in #TheDelhiFiles : The Bengal Chapter_ directed by #VivekRanjanAgnihotri, Jointly produced by #AbhishekAgarwal and Pallavi Joshi. The film is presented by Tej Narayan Agarwal & I Am Buddha productions.
