It’s #WorldTelevisionDay today and the #celebration is happening around the #globe. The day recognises the importance and impact of the #smallscreen in our lives, especially the way it keeps us updated and #entertained. Over the years #television has evolved considerably. #IshaanSinghManhas, of the #TVshow #Sanjog fame, talks about the pros and cons of being in this #industry. He also opines on the trends he has noticed in recent times and if he thinks with the passage of time TV content has grown too or not.

“Working in the TV industry has its own share of pros and cons. We actors get fame, money and also have a positive impact in the society through the characters we play and the stories we become a part of. But at the same time because it’s a daily soap, we don’t get much breaks. Our schedule is unpredictable and sometimes we work even when we are not well. Taking holidays or travelling out of town becomes difficult as well,” he says.

Speaking on the trends and content that he has witnessed, the actor takes some time to think before sharing his opinion.

“Trends in the TV industry, as far as content is concerned, is that now there is more focus on Women Empowerment and also the storytelling has become progressive. For example, in the past there were stories where a wife wants her cheating husband to come back to her, but in the content shown today, that same wife will rather leave her husband and move on in life. The popular TV show Anupamaa is an example,” he adds.

Even though several sources of entertainment have emerged, TV continues to reign in most Indian households as a medium of entertainment. On #WorldTelevisionDay, &TV actors talk about the importance of television entertainment and their fun memories/events. These include artists such as #NehaJoshi (#Yashoda, #DoosriMaa), #HimaniShivpuri (#KatoriAmma, #HappuKiUltanPaltan), and #AasifSheikh (#VibhutiNarayanMishra, #BhabijiGharParHai). Neha Joshi, essaying Yashoda in &TV’s show Doosri Maa, shares, “I started in theatres and moved on to TV and films, but television holds a special place in my heart. I believe it has been and will continue to be an effective entertainment medium. There was a time when my life revolved around television and my favourite shows. I used to finish all my work and switch on my favourite TV programs, including Marathi and Hindi serials, along with singing reality shows. The television industry is challenging since you must perform every day with all your convictions. Because you are facing the camera every single day, this challenge provides you with great learning opportunities. When an artist starts from zero, television is their main form of exposure. I often say, “TV is a school where you also get paid.” Television offers every artist the opportunity to connect with their audience daily, reaching every corner of the globe. It’s great that many Indian TV shows are getting dubbed and telecast on TV in different countries. I promise to continue working hard on World Television Day and reaching out to my fans via television.”

Himani Shivpuri essaying Katori Amma in &TV’s show Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, says, “Even though screen sizes have changed, people create, post, stream, and consume content on various platforms, a few devoted fans watch their favourite stars on television regularly. After my husband died unexpectedly, I seriously considered giving up acting. Television was rising then, and many new channels were launched, suddenly opening a door of opportunity for struggling artists. I began to receive numerous offers for TV shows as the main lead, some of which I accepted, establishing me as a household name. TV as a medium helped me when I was at my lowest, and I will be eternally grateful to the Indian television industry for accepting me as an artist. In the world of show business, the theatre gave me fulfilment, films gave me a name and fame, and television is like a steady income. I am eternally grateful to each entertainment medium.”

Aasif Sheikh, essaying Vibhuti Narayan Mishra in &TV’s show Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, says, “I was filled with mixed emotions when I first saw myself on television in 1984. I was worried, happy, excited, and, more importantly, nervous to see how my family and friends would react. No doubt I had movies that followed and helped me gain popularity, but television will always be dear to me and remind me of my humble beginnings. Yes, it is true that working on TV is very hectic and becomes routine, but it pays off in the long run in every way. As an actor, I am grateful to the small screen for always allowing me to make my viewers laugh for the past three decades, and there is more to come. In these seven years of Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, I have played more than 300 characters on this show, which is quite an achievement for an actor working on a small screen. My relationship with television is beyond compare, and my excitement and eagerness to do more are growing daily. Kyunki picture abhi baki hai mere dost.”

Watch Doosri Maa at 8:00 pm, Happu Ki Ultan Paltan at 10:00 pm, and Bhamyi Ghar Par Hai at 10:30 pm, airing every Monday to Friday on &TV.

The post On World Television Day, &TV actors talk about the importance of television entertainment! first appeared on Latest News, Breaking News, National News, World News, India News, Bollywood News, Business News, Politics News, Sports News, Entertainment News - CineBuster.

Attitude singer #ReyenEyes enjoys watching informative shows or movies. Every year on November 21, #WorldTelevisionDay is observed and the emphasis is on how TV plays a vital role in presenting different issues that affect people.

“We used to have a black and white TV in our home when I was very young. In such a short span of time, common usage has come a long way from black and white TVs to Androids. I remember the importance I gave to television. I would sometimes skip studies to watch shows,” he said.

“I mostly like to watch informative shows or movies, but the programme I watched consistently while growing up was actually Balika Vadhu. Well, partly because my mom used to, but then I got hooked to it. I used to watch some cartoons like Shin Chan and Noddy. I still watch Tom and Jerry. I have also watched Man vs. Wild a lot,” he added.

He feels that the way we consume entertainment has changed a lot and is not restricted to TV. “I catch up on an episode or a documentary every week. The TV show Friends is what I believe will be my lifelong number one. I believe television is one of the most affordable sources of endless knowledge. You could be learning survival techniques of Antarctica or have an insight into underwater life in Mexico. It basically allows you to see how there is so much in this world and pushes you to dream big. It shaped the intriguing nature of entire generations,” he said.

Asked if he would like to anchor a show on TV, he said, “If I ever get an opportunity, I’d rather be more enthused to be in the participant corner. I always have had that passion to learn and compete in a variety of creative or entertaining or adventurous tasks.”

The post Reyen Eyes mostly likes to watch informative shows or movies! first appeared on Latest News, Breaking News, National News, World News, India News, Bollywood News, Business News, Politics News, Sports News, Entertainment News - CineBuster.

Every year on 21 st November, #WorldTelevisionDay recognizes the vital role television plays in highlighting various issues faced by people. We asked #Herumbkhot who is currently producing #DhadkanZindaggiKi and #ChikooKiMummyDurrKei, about his memory on his first tv set at home.

He says, ”My first memory of a black and white TV set is me doing a very important high precision job. Being the youngest, I had the most crucial job of keeping on rotating the antenna till the reception was perfect. I can bet that the youngest of all families will feel my pain. And the next memory is that of being stunned by the color images of ASIAD in 1982 on my neighbour’s TV set along with about 20 more people crammed in a small living room.”

He also adds,”As a child, I watched whatever I was allowed by my parents. We used to wait for CHAYAGEET on Thursdays, Marathi films on Saturdays & Hindi films on Sundays. Also, I would watch a program called SAPTAHIKI that would give a summary of the shows in the week. I also used to enjoy shows like Karamchand, Old Fox, Didi’s Comedy Show & Telematch.”

So how much do you watch television programmes on a day-to-day basis? “I watch news & sports channels. Being a history, travel, car & bike enthusiast I love watching NAT GEO & HISTORY CHANNEL. I also watch offbeat channels like EPIC & DISCOVERY TURBO. Technically speaking, my Tv being a smart one I watch mostly OTT shows and a lot of YOUTUBE on it.” But is there any threat to tv after the booming of OTT content? “Not totally yet. Maybe the TV audience has reduced a fraction but I’m sure in the upcoming years, OTT will appreciably eat into the dedicated TV audiences. I feel the audience today has a wide choice of varied content. With the kind of offerings on the OTT platforms including BOLLYWOOD & conventional Tv content. The move of the audience away from TV is imminent. Also, another big shift is the reduction of viewers. I also feel TV is a mass medium. Competition has multiplied so TV as an industry has to give a wide variety of quality content to continue retaining the audience. Changing with the times is important.”

The post On the occasion of World Television Day, Producer Herumb Khot shares his fondest memories of television! first appeared on Latest News, Breaking News, National News, World News, India News, Bollywood News, Business News, Politics News, Sports News, Entertainment News - CineBuster.

Ahead of #WorldTelevisionDay, which is observed on November 21, #ChikooKiMummyDurrKei producer #NilanjanaPurkayasstha said that India has too diverse population, so OTT won’t be able to eat into TV.

“India has too huge a population for OTT to eat into TV. Sure, a lot of TV shows fare well on their sister OTT platforms, but the audience for cable TV is too big for OTT to make a sizable impact,” she said. According to her, women are the primary consumers of GEC on TV. “One must understand that a vast majority of women in our country don’t have access to mobile phones, let alone OTT content. Our country is still too patriarchal to allow women the privilege of a personal screen. In a country that has mostly single-TV homes, family viewing is the norm. Women, being the primary consumer of GEC, have only the TV set in their drawing rooms which is a shared space, as their only source of entertainment. This is not likely to change in the near future,” she said.

“If anything is eating into GEC, it is other genres on TV, not OTT,” she added. Recalling the first time a television set came to her house was just before the 1982 Asian Games. “I think this was true for a lot of middle-class families at that time,” she shared.

As a child, she used to watch Indradhanush – an Indian science fiction show. “My love for science fiction started with Indradhanush. Did you know Karan Johar acted in it? I, of course, had no idea who he was then! Vishal Singh acted in it and was my favourite. Apart from this, I loved Byomkesh Bakshi, Karamchand and Bharat Ek Khoj. I looked forward to Chitrahaar every weekend,” she said. She spends 2 to 3 hours every night on streaming platforms. “They are usually reruns of my favourite comedy shows,” she said. She watches only English OTT content. Her favourite genres are science fiction, fantasy and comedy.

The post Nilanjana Purkayasstha opines on TV vs OTT, ‘One must understand that a vast majority of women in our country don’t have access to mobile phones, let alone OTT content’! first appeared on Latest News, Breaking News, National News, World News, India News, Bollywood News, Business News, Politics News, Sports News, Entertainment News - CineBuster.

Television has been part of daily routine for many all these years. Though the elite viewers shifted away from it, a major chunk of the population is still dependent on television for entertainment, information etc, World Television Day is here and actors talk about the importance of TV in their lives.

Vijayendra Kumeria: It’s true that there has been an impact on the television viewership in the last few years as a lot of people have shifted to the digital medium for entertainment on demand. But still, there is a big household viewership which is relying on their television for entertainment. The numbers, of course, will change further in the coming years but television will not be a forgotten medium of entertainment anytime soon. I have been fortunate enough that my family had a television set even before I was born but I still remember that it had a very few channels and used to work on an antenna and dish mechanism. When we got a new TV, it had around 100 channel option and we all used to say that it’s such a waste as there max 15 channels that were broadcasting. But now, look at the scenario, we don’t even know how many channels exist.

Delnaaz Irani: Television was and is and will be the most precious thing for people. Yes, the Internet is here and you can watch stuff on your mobile and laptop. So obviously technology is there and you add free to use technology as and when you need to. But, trust me, there are still many people who are still hooked on to television, the older generation is who I am talking about. If you ask my mom, we have kind of pestered her to have Netflix and other OTT platforms. She says I am very happy with television. There are a lot of people like my mother who are still hooked on to TV shows. If you give good content on TV, they are going to hook on to TV more. I think TV is a part and parcel of people’s lives and that’s not going anywhere. I respect television as it’s my bread and butter and it’s not going to go anywhere. I can proudly say that I am a TV actor and it has given me everything. I can’t recall the day when the television set came home but I obviously remember that we were very small and it was a black and white dabba and we were very excited.

Saanand Verma: Television will never go away because, for family viewing, television is a must. Thanks to television, many people come together to watch it together. In today’s world, a family cannot sit together and watch web content but TV targets family audience and has stuff which we can see with the whole family. Our country is family-driven and so television is going to exist for many years to come. Now smart TVs have come into existence where people can watch content as per their choice. Television content will run forever because television is the strongest medium as compared to others. Our population is huge and the reach of the internet is still very less as compared to other countries and spreading internet in the whole country is next to impossible. We are not economically that strong. Television has its different place which no one can replace or break. My all-time favourite television show is Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain. I remember being very small when my father bought a television set. At that time Ye Jo Hai Zindagi, Humlog and then Ramayan used to get telecast.

Aniruddh Dave: Till the time our country is stree pradhaan, till then Indian television will be seen in every house. The web has made its different place no doubt, entertainment is now in every hand. But the Indian television is there and its remote will always be in the hand of the women. I feel that. Jab tak suraj chand rahega, Indian television toh rahega. Graphs and units might change but people won’t stop watching TV. Television is also changing now and good content is coming with better and realistic stories. People should understand this change. Entertainment is a very fluctuating industry it all depends on the time.

Manit Jorua: Firstly, I want to wish a very happy World Television Day to all the viewers around the globe. Secondly, I think, in my opinion, TV will never go out because I have seen instances where the commercial shop who sell televisions sets in any metro cities have many people from the villages standing outside and watching TV through the glass. This is the power of TV. I think the rural areas are far denser than any other urban or metro cities and, in villages, people still can’t afford TV sets. Television is a source of joy for them. The internet has taken over a majority of audiences but still many people are hooked on to TV. When it comes to TV, I think gradually makers are also realising that the internet is taking over especially in urban cities or metro cities and they are also improving their content. I am very happy that TV is also upping their game. When I was born, TV was already there at my home. I remember, when I was 5 years old, we used to watch Mahabharat and Aladdin once in a while and we used to see films. I come from a joint family and we all used to watch Kyuki Saas bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki and other shows. We were hooked on to TV. Lately, once I came to Bombay, TV was never a priority and so I never bought a TV with my hard-earned money. I bought a TV in 2010 and I realised that buying a TV brought me so much happiness.

Subuhii Joshii: TV is TV, I know nowadays people use more of mobile and laptops but every night, I sleep with my television on. If I don’t watch my favourite serials then I connect to the internet and watch something else. But still, I watch everything on the TV. My all-time favourite TV show would be F.R.I.E.N.D.S. I think, not only for me but for a lot of other people, this would be it. I have seen this show about 8 times and still, whenever I am free, I watch this show, it’s a fun show. I was very young when a TV set came to my place. It was a surprise for me. When the TV came at home, I was so excited and still, I am excited to watch TV.

Yesha Rughani: Technology has come and many things have changed but I think the charm and beauty of seeing something on television gives me peace. So, I think, for me, it still holds a lot of importance I have always been that girl who was too keen to watch television since childhood. I was a big TV fan during childhood. In my schedule, there used to be one special slot time for watching TV even during exams. I used to watch at least one hour of TV every day. I remember there was a TV in our living room. I remember there was a Navratri competition in which a small TV was the price, I won that and I was at the top of the world. My favourite childhood television memories are watching a lot of cartoons and games. I used to watch cartoons on Nickelodeon channel, art show Mad, I used to watch Circus, Sonpari, Shakalaka Boom Boom and Shararat.

Rajit Dev: Very frankly, since the time I started living alone, I don’t have a television at home. It’s been 2 years. Everything happens on my iPad and my phone. This is also because there’s full access and information on the net. Oh! those were the days when very few people had the privilege of buying a television set at home. I still remember all my friends from the chawl dancing through the streets when my dad got a TV set at home. Then going to the roof to adjust the antenna was another favourite thing. I think I miss watching television especially sports, cartoon and good music channels.

Nishant Singh Malkhani: It takes some amount of technical training to understand how to download an app and buy some subscription, search for the content you like and play it. A very very small percentage of people know how to do this. In our country, in every household, there is a television and there will be a television. I think television plays is an extremely important part of society. I think television is not going anywhere for a long period of time. I was six-years-old when we got a television set with very few channels. I remember watching Mahabharat on Sundays and Ramayan. Then came those Vikram Betal and Shaktiman.

Rohit Choudhary: The internet has its own advantages and disadvantages. We can easily go through the internet and carry a laptop and mobile easily, so it’s good. But yes, television is still the best because sitting and watching TV has a different kind of enjoyment associated with it. Now times have changed because earlier there was a lot more excitement for TV as the availability was less and now people are not excited anymore because there is plenty of options that they have. When TV was not there, we used to go to the neighbour’s house to watch movies and finally when the TV came to our place it was black and white. We were so happy. We used to take good care of our TV set. After the black and white era, colour TVs came into existence and people used to watch Mahabharat and Ramayan. Television is a medium to keep the family united and I don’t think the importance of television will ever go.

The post On World Television Day, actors say that television brings a lot of happiness first appeared on Latest News, Breaking News, National News, World News, India News, Bollywood News, Business News, Politics News, Sports News, Entertainment News - CineBuster.
