“Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai has changed my life. I became an actor on the set, what else can I say? It gave me a career that I dreamt of,” she says.

Shooting the last leg of the show has been an emotional experience for the actor. “Well, I did not expect it to be emotional. I thought I would be fine, but I did end up getting emotional. Not only was I going to miss the offscreen bond, but also the characters. I will miss the world we created,” she adds.

On her takeaways from the role of Aarohi, considering that she received immense love for the part, Karishma says, “I will cherish the memories created with the entire team and that set which felt like home. I loved playing Aarohi. It started with some shades and how life changed her was phenomenal. She only lived for her daughter. It taught me that motherhood can change you for good.”

So much has been said about the sibling bond between Akshara and Aarohi. “Akshara and Aarohi’s relationship wasn’t easy but one thing was sure that deep down, family is family and they always knew that and would have each other’s back in times of trouble,” she answers.

Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai is the iconic show which changed the lives of many for good. “All the best thu thu thu,” adds Karishma.

Even though she is yet to meet the new bunch of actors, she congratulates the entire cast for the next leg.

So, whenever I watched Rajan Shahi’s YRKKH, somewhere in my heart of hearts I manifested my wish to be a part of it one day. And, my wishes were fulfilled, God blessed me with this golden opportunity. My character Muskan is a Himachali girl who is traditional yet outgoing in her ways. She’s the representation of youth from the small towns of India who love adventure,” says the actor, who has done a romcom short film, Woh Khaas, which is India’s dual audio short film streaming in MX Player, Hungama Play, Airtel Xtream, Tata Play Binge etc. She also played lead roles in two yet-to-release web series’.

Having grown up watching this YRKKH, Shambhavi reveals that she and her family are obsessed with this show.
“I loved everything about it and craved for families & their bond shown in the show for real. Especially after watching the functions, then the dance in the show, I always wanted to do it. I’m a trained classical & western dancer, so dance is another thing that I love. But yes, the story was and will always be the hero which succeeded in enthralling us all,” she adds.

An actor’s job is to fully represent the character they are playing and to convince the audience that the character is real, in the process making them fall in love with the story. “So it’s our job but it’s challenging too. But, unlike in films where you know the whole story, go through proper workshops to master the character better, in daily soaps you are unaware about many things and yet have to deliver your performance to your full potential to win the hearts of the audience,” she says.
Rajan has given a good spin to the story and audiences are enjoying every bit of it. Agreeing, Shambhavi adds, “As always there will be twists & suspense in the storyline to make the experience all the more exciting. It will also be evasive for the audience as new entries are coming up back to back. But just like life, stories cannot always be a Bon Voyage. There will be ups & downs which makes it more exciting to watch. So just watch & enjoy it to the fullest as there will be a lot in store for the future.”

YRKKH has an enormous fan following. Shambhavi feels blessed to be a part of it. “I’m a huge fan too,” she smiles before adding, “It is best known for their iconic love stories & tracks. This show is an emotion for its fans. You cannot go wrong in any manner. The fans get affected with every twist, new entry in the story. So I know it won’t be easy for me to dive in. But I’ll try my level best to do justice with the character & give them some to love affectionately. Hopefully this ‘Muskan’ will bring ‘muskan’ to the faces of YRKKH fans.”

Karishma Sawant – I’m looking forward to celebrating Holi with people on the set and at work because I don’t think I would be getting off. If I get a day off then I would like to celebrate it with my family and enjoy gheeyar. It’s the sweet dish that my mother makes. She is Sindhi. I would not want to play with colours and water a lot because I have done that a lot till recently ?????. So this year, I want it to be different. Holi holds a very special place in my heart because it instantly makes me nostalgic, takes me back to those days when I didn’t want to go home and wanted to play more and more in the water. I also remember meeting everyone the following day and discussing the colours they had in their hair while taking shower. So Holi reminds me of innocence, nostalgia and friends. Gulal is my favourite colour but when it comes to dressing then black is what I prefer. I also feel Holi is about celebrating all the colours. My favourite song is Balam Pichkari. It’s very youthful and quite recent and the singer is my favourite too.

Neeraj Goswami – This question about our plans of celebrating something should be banned from asking to any artist doing a TV project. We can’t make plans. I don’t know whether I am shooting or not, I will get to know about it a day prior. The significance has changed over the years. From being yet another festival to celebrate to being a reason to get together with friends and having a good time considering the busy lives we lead, Holi will always be a festival that we all look forward to. My favorite color is gulabi and the song would be Do Me A Favour Lets Play Holi.

Mayank Arora – My Holi plan is to stay inside, have good food and chill as there is still a risk of Covid-19. Hope everyone has a happy and safe Holi! The festival signifies the triumph of good over evil. For me it’s a day to let go, forgive and celebrate with your loved ones. I love bright colours, so on Holi yellow, blue and pink are my favourites. There is no specific favourite song, I enjoy most of the Holi songs.

Vinay Jain – Holi is one of my favourite festivals and this year I plan to more than make up for not being able to celebrate it for the past two years! For me Holi is a celebration of the positive forces over the negatives, which is essentially a battle that is being constantly fought within the depths of our own life. Red is my favourite colour, and my favourite song is the one from the film, Sholay, Holi Ke Din Dil Khil Jaate Hain, because of the vibrant romance element in it.

Ashish Nayyar – Well, it’s been two years we haven’t played Holi. I remember just after Holi in 2020, Corona set in, so spirits were dampened and we had to abide by all the restrictions. This year we’ll play Holi with full gusto and celebrate with friends and family. Holi is very significant as this festival allows you to express your affection with colours and spread the message of love and friendship even to strangers. Some places in India play Holi for a complete week and celebrate the eternal message of spreading Love. Pink and blue are my favourite colours that both signify love and purity. **Favourite song is missing

Ali Hasan Turabi – This year I will be having a low key Holi celebration with just a few friends, keeping the virus in mind, it is best to take precautions. Holi is a festival when all the differences and animosities dissolve we all become one. Yellow is my favourite colour and Jai Jai Shiv Shankar from War is my favourite Holi song.

Niharika Chouksey – I am planning to go to Imagica with my family this year. It’s one of my most favourite places as I love adventure and rides. Holi is my most favourite festival. I have many good memories of it. Purple is my favourite colour and I really like the iconic Holi songs like Rang Barse, Do Me A Favour, Let’s Play Holi etc.

Niyati Joshi – Well, this year I really have not planned anything but Holi is one festival which is very close to my heart. I love playing Holi and haven’t missed it ever since I was a kid. But because of Covid, I have stopped playing for obvious reasons. So I don’t know if I’ll be shooting or staying at home. But even if I’m home, I’ll just put a bit of colour on my face to get a feel of it and obviously use organic colours and meet up with friends. Holi is a festival of colours. There’s a lot of happiness and joy around and the best part of it is no discrimination is made among human beings when it is celebrated. A lot is forgotten and forgiven during this festival and the messages of love and togetherness are spread. My favourite Holi colour has to be pink. Without that colour you’ve not played Holi and my favourite song has to be Rang Barse. It’s very nostalgic. I’ve been hearing this song since I was a kid. I’ve been hearing a lot of new songs, Bura Na Mano Holi Hai and a lot of remixes, but the old is gold.

Sharan Anandani – As of now, I have no plans for Holi. I’m kind of afraid because people use different types of colours, especially the permanent colors that can affect your skin, which can stop me from shooting the next day. So I really avoid playing as such. Just a small get together with a few friends and playing games is what I indulge in. Holi means fun and enjoyment. I used to celebrate Holi till 2017 before I got into acting. So now I really take care of my skin. Blue is my favourite. And my favorite song is Amitabh Bachchan’s Rang Barse. The song is so relatable to the festival. It’s fun as well. I wish I could play Holi and not have to shoot for a week so I would not worry about my skin being spoiled with colours.

Harshad, who plays Dr. Abhimanyu Birla in “Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai”, is a big Shiv bhakt in the show and as per the recent sequence he hears Akshara saying that she sees no future with him which makes him really angry and he performs a tandava.

YRKKH has been one of the longest-running shows on the tube. Harshad shares that the season is a part of is all new and has a different approach. “I was promised a new show. I have been delivered a new show,” he sounds content.
His character Abhimanyu is a doctor by profession. He adds, “He is a man with zero personal life experience. When I say zero experience, I mean he has worldly experience like he has been to good schools and colleges, knows his work, and even does well at the hospital. But he is unaware of things beyond that, his emotions are all driven towards his work. As far as what he saw and understood from that, he made up his mind based on that and made the same thinking his reality.

About the reason why he said yes to the character and how much he relates to the character, Harshad says, “There was something to play and I felt like I wanted to do that character. The way it has been written and the scope it has it interesting. So, all these actually attracted me to take this role up. Playing Abhimanyu feels like I am giving my own to the character and I think the character is shaping me.”
Ask about his experience of working with Rajan Shahi and his team at Directors Kut Production, he adds, “It’s so good that I want to say, ‘Thu Thu Thu , Nazar na lage’ (smiles).”

Content is king these days, unlike what it was earlier. However, Harshad looks at it differently. He explains his point of view.

“When I think about it, what also comes to my mind that even if a writer or content creator creates good content, it also depends on how it is being presented and performed. If these two things aren’t done well then no justice would be done to the content. I think nobody likes that. So, I agree that content is king but at the same time a product is only successful when everything and everyone work well. So, I divide the credit 50 – 50,” he says.

YRKKH symbolizes human values and relationships, and Rajan Shahi is known for his crisp storytelling. “Usually what happens is that wherever you work, there are certain rules and regulations. This place has traditions. There are different things which I cannot really explain. All I can say is that apart from all the rules and requirements, this place is about human values and relationships. And, I think any artist or gifted person is nothing without values and how the person is with their loved ones,” he adds showering praises on the producer and his entire team.
It’s often seen that love triangles make the drama interesting. YRKKH also explores this angle. “Well, I think good stories are good stories. And it does not matter what the genre or the angle it explores,” he ends.

What attracted him to the character Neel was the fact that “I like to play characters that have energy. And I think with this, I get to showcase that.”

“Also, the fact that he’s someone not from the Birlas family, kind of makes him an outsider. But he’s still an insider. So that makes things very interesting. In the story, there’s a lineage of doctors, but Neel isn’t a doctor which is also very interesting because that creates a lot of interesting situations. There will be situations when he doesn’t know anything that’s been spoken about.”

“Apart from these reasons, I think the co-actors. The fact that the show has been running for so long, the fact that I’m getting the opportunity to work with (producer) Rajan Shahi Sir, all of these things. I love to work with great people. Director Kut Productions is one of the biggest production houses,” he added.

He also relates to his character. “Since I’m young I also think I have a lot of energy. I do like to take initiatives and I do like to do certain things. I’m not a doctor, so I do relate to Neel in a lot of ways,” said Paras.

Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai is the longest-running show on Indian Television, and he is very excited to be a part of it. “Considering the fact that it has been going on for years proves that the storytelling, the performances, the connection with the audience have been intact for a lot of years. I’m very excited to be a part of this show and very excited to see how and what I can do to contribute to making this show even better,” he said about the show that launched in 2009.

According to him, content is the King. “If we notice any of the previous trends, if we even look at the very near past…any show that has come up, if the content has not been great, then those shows have been shut down and then have been replaced by new shows. I believe that Indian audiences are extremely smart and they deserve to have the best content. And with the rise of OTT, with good TV, content is definitely going to be the king. I think any kind of creative work, especially in terms of what we do in filmmaking, or TV or OTT, I think the first binding factor for the audience will be the writing. So yes, content is absolutely the supreme king,” he said.

The show symbolises human values and relationships, and Rajan Shahi is known for his crisp storytelling. “I think any kind of storytelling requires human values, exploring human relationships and I think Rajan Sir is a master of that. He’s known for his crisp storytelling. I’m really looking forward to working with him. I’ve seen his shows. I’ve seen glimpses, be it Anupama or YRKKH or even his past shows, but I haven’t gotten the opportunity to work with him,” he said.

He thinks that love triangles make the drama very interesting. “Love triangles basically create conflicts because they create confusion. I think it creates lots of emotions. I truly think a person can fall in love with one or more people and then I think in those situations there can be a lot of conflicts and a lot of interesting emotions stem out from there,” said Paras.

Talking about the title Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, he said, “When I think of the title Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, the first thing that comes to my mind is that there is no name to this relationship. It’s like labels make things dull. I think not having a label on something makes it interesting. ‘Ki mujhe nahi pata yeh kya hai lekin yeh jo bhi hai yeh interesting hai, and I like having this in my life ( I don’t know what it is, but whatever it is this is interesting)’. So thinking of the title YRKKH, I think of unnamed relationships, having no labels attached.”

One can’t possibly have gone through all the experiences that the character has! To begin with I have never been married or had children of my own nor have I adopted, so there is never going to be any relatability with my personal experiences, but there is relatability with the world of character is possible. I particularly remember an incident (from another show), where my character was to be slapped by her husband. Now as a person I was unable to relate to it as the act is completely wrong. It took me a while to stop relating to the character and just play it as it is,” she explains.

Having worked with Rajan Shahi earlier for Saath Phere, Bidaai, the actor knows how things work here. “I have known the whole team since 2007! Romesh Karla, Vivek Jain, Arif Shaikh, we go a long way. Though I did not get an opportunity to work with them all these years, we have been in touch. And this time when Rajan ji called from overseas to narrate the character, I was not going to let the opportunity go,” she says adding that along with working with her old team, content is the other thing that got her interested in the role.

“There is a raw, passionate and unpredictable quality to Harsh Vardhan Birla which attracted me to this character,” he added. Though he empathises with the motivations of this character, he doesn’t personally subscribe to his ways and means.
