Talking about how he was introduced to MMA, he adds, “I happened to get introduced to it when I got injured in a gym where the doctor recommended physiotherapy to me and at that time I hired a team to guide and help me exercise. I saw my team doing some great stunts. That’s it, I got attracted to it and decided to learn it full-fledgedly. The boys who used to train me inspired me to take my passion ahead.”

MMA can be risky, but Zohaeb says at the end of the day if there is no risk then there is no story.

Ask him about his favourite action film and he replies, “There are so many films. The list is super long.”

“It was the time when I had some gym injury and the doctor recommended physiotherapy to me. But I ended up hiring a team that does gymnastics and stretching. So I did stretching, improved my flexibility in the body first and then ended up doing MMA,” says the actor, who has been practicing MMA regularly for the last six years without any break.

Zohaeb hired Kuldeep Shashi and Rahul Suyravanshi for stretching. “First they both helped me with the flexibility for a couple of months and then they later introduced me to Raakesh Yadhav for MMA. Since then, every alternate day, I’ve been doing stretching and MMA every morning. This routine has made me fit, I feel light and it also gave me the confidence to walk. It also improved my muscle memory to perform stunts and pick up stunts, and all these invite fewer injuries while working out in the gym,” shares the actor.

Recently, he got injured as one can’t deny the risk that is always there in MMA. “Yes! All these things happen while performing stunts. Sometimes some judgments go wrong. Recently, while training, my judgement went for a toss and I ended up with a ligament tear in my right knee. Doctors advised for a 6-8 weeks rest. We all make mistakes, after all, we are humans. Now just hoping to get well soon with the help of physiotherapy,” he adds.

Many Bollywood actors want to do their own stunts. So it’s a given that Zohaeb’s MMA knowledge is a big plus. “Obviously! I would love to do my own stunts. It gives a great kick to do our own stunts, but only and only under supervision and safety,” he suggests.

He feels talking about grooming or flaunting new looks by celebrities helps men be aware about its benefits and also normalises the notion. “Celebs are constantly under the public eye. So people tend to follow as well as admire them for new trends and looks. So flaunting does benefit a lot, plus creates a unique statement. And, let me tell you one thing, always take criticism and suggestions in a positive way because that will only help you groom and grow,” says the nephew of filmmaker Subhash Ghai.

There are several myths about grooming that we often realised much later in life. “Nope, nothing as such… I always loved learning. So learning only helped me a lot to groom, plus I always keep a watch on myself and my work and end up criticising myself. So that way it also helps me a lot to groom. For me the glass is always half empty because for me half full means I’m done and I’m satisfied and whereas half empty for me means that I need to do more to achieve my dreams and goals.”

Talking about whether there is any new grooming habit or trend that he has been introduced to, which he was previously apprehensive about, Zohaeb says, “Nothing! I automatically end up following the trend.”

“OTT is a relatively new platform to Indian audiences. So sooner or later every actor will get its due. I guess if the show is hit then everyone in the show is a star in its own right,” he said.

“I always believe that OTT is all about characters and as an actor every actor loves to play a character therefore every actor wants to do something on the platform. It’s fresh, the content is good, and plus you get to reach the heart of the people just with the touch of an app,” he added.

He shared that his favourite web series are “Mirzapur” and “Breaking Bad”, and confessed that it’s not just the entertainment industry that has exposed the audience to abuses, drugs, etc. “I don’t think it’s solely the entertainment industry that has exposed everyone to everything. The Internet nowadays is everywhere. There are other platforms also that bring light to all these things. So everything is quite transparent to everyone,” he said.

And when it comes to bold scenes, Zohaeb said if the script demands it then he doesn’t have any problem doing it on-screen, but, he added, “Everything should be showcased in a very aesthetic and appropriate manner. It shouldn’t be like ‘oh god! What the hell is going on?'”

#ZohaebFarooqui, who is making his acting debut with web series “#InspectorAvinash”, confessed that he has zero cooking skills and at the max he can make a cup of green tea. “I’m miles away from the kitchen, I’m a complete disaster in there. I can only make green tea for someone,” he said.

The young actor also revealed that he is a big foodie but because of the nature of his work he has “disciplined food”, except on Sunday.

Sharing his take on how most celebs prefer having sugarless food items, he said, “I’m also into all these things and I feel it’s an individual choice. Like the entire week I’m on disciplined food but on Sundays I let myself loose because my body needs to know the regular as well as exotic food also.”

Zohaeb, who is ace filmmaker Subhash Ghai’s nephew, also shared that he doesn’t have to worry about his meals as he is lucky to have most of his relatives living close by. But he doesn’t mind indulging in outside food too.

“I had a fun and chilled childhood like any other kid. My dad Raju Farooqui is a producer for Mukta Arts and Subhash Ghai is my uncle. In spite of belonging to a filmy family I had a very normal upbringing,” he says.

Zohaeb has been motivated by his uncle to take up acting as a profession. “He encouraged me to get into acting. He told me to never ever give up and work hard enough to attract success. Career is not just about getting success but also retaining it,” adds the debutant, whose all time favourite Subhash Ghai film is Pardes. He loves both the story and the beautiful songs in this Shah Rukh Khan and Mahima Chaudhry starrer.

Ask if he visited any of the filmmaker’s grand sets as a child and he replies, “Yes I have visited many of his sets quite a number of times. I’m not able to collect any specific or memorable incident that had happened back then. But I remember chilling around, playing with people and having Pepsi / Cola.”

Having literally grown up in the industry, sharing about his impression of this space and what his father told him, he says, “All is not glamour here. You need to work very hard to make it big. It’s a beautiful creative industry and a lot of people’s dreams are attached to it. But there’s more to it than what meets the eye. When I decided to take the plunge, my father advised me to never waste producers’ time and money. He told me to work hard on my craft and remain humble throughout.”

Zohaeb plays the role of a UP-based college student in the web series. “It has a very good premise. It is based on the life story of a police officer. We enjoyed shooting for it in various parts of India and I am sure the audience is going to love it too,” says the actor, whose name means gold. He reveals that he gets a lot of compliments for his name wherever he goes.

Happy to start out with OTT that is buzzing with interesting content and garnering interest from the audience, he adds, “I think the OTT boom is just amazing. The content variety on OTT is fantastic. There are stories from all over the world under one roof. I myself watch a lot of content on OTT. I eat, drink and sleep movies…”

Zohaeb inspires in Bollywood are all good actors who are unique in their own way. “The Khan’s be it Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan or Aamir Khan. Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor have their unique strengths as well and can’t be compared to one another. I admire and look up to them all. In this industry, I think more than looking good, you need to be charismatic, you should be honest and give out good vibes, which should reflect in your personality,” he says.

He has taken formal training in acting from Whistling Woods International. Zohaeb shares that the experience there has been fantastic as one gets to learn many technicalities along with the art form. At the institute, according to him, they also help in developing one’s personality.

Ask if he has not been an actor, what profession would he have chosen and the pat comes the reply, “I Never thought about it. I have always wanted to become an actor since I was a child. I believe one shouldn’t have a plan B when you are sure about your plan A. I have always thought about only acting and nothing else.”

Speaking of how this pandemic has changed his outlook. He adds, “It made me calm and I started to enjoy my own company. It also has made me realize what I need and what I want. It has given an opportunity to identify my genuine friends and taught me the value of prioritising. I am more responsible as a person and more career-oriented now than what I was before,” he signs off.
