Actor Ajay Purkar to Play Antagonist in ‘Abhang Tukaram’!

Just as heroes have created lasting impressions in films, many villains too have left a strong mark on audiences. Several actors known for their positive roles have taken on negative characters — and now, Ajay Purkar joins that list. In the upcoming film #AbhangTukaram, directed by #DigpalLanjekar, Ajay will be seen in the menacing role of ‘Mambaji’. The film, presented by the reputed production house Panorama Studios, is set to release on November 7. It is produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak, with Murlidhar Chatwani and Ravindra Auti as co-producers.

Mambaji was one of the foremost opponents of Saint Tukaram, unable to tolerate his growing influence and popularity. He constantly found ways to harass the saint. Such was his depravity that Saint Tukaram’s ardent disciple Bahinabai described him as “Like the sting of a scorpion — wickedness embodied.”

Speaking about his role, Ajay Purkar shares, “Most of my previous roles have been of positive nature. Each of them received immense love from the audience. But through this film, I’ve explored the other side of the coin by portraying a dark, powerful character. This role is extremely significant to me as an actor. What matters most is bringing distinctiveness to every role I play, and Abhang Tukaram gave me the perfect opportunity to do that.”

The story and dialogues of Abhang Tukaram are penned by noted writer Yogesh Soman, while Digpal Lanjekar has handled the screenplay and direction. Cinematography is by Sandeep Shinde, editing by Sagar Shinde and Vinay Shinde. Atul Maske has done the makeup, and Saurabh Kamble has designed the costumes. Music and background score are composed by Mayur Raut. Sound design is by Nikhil Lanjekar and Himanshu Ambekar. Action sequences are choreographed by Babbu Khanna, with dance direction by Sumit Salunkhe. The art direction is handled by Pratik Reddys and Sanjay Karole, while post-production is managed by Sachin Bhillare. VFX is by Shock and Awe Films, and visual promotions are by Catalyst Creates. Jay Gotecha from Cinnamon Entertainment serves as Marketing Director, and Ketaki Gadre Abhyankar is the Executive Producer.
