Ek Hota Malin

“Ek Hota Malin” will bring the chilling Malin tragedy to the big screen!

On July 30, 2014, in Malin village of Ambegaon taluka, Pune district, a devastating landslide occurred. More than 150 people lost their lives and hundreds were injured in that catastrophe. That tragedy is now the subject of a gripping film titled “Ek Hota Malin,” which will be released across Maharashtra on July 24. The movie features state-of-the-art technology, a large-scale recreation of Malin village, and a powerful screenplay. The film’s poster and motion poster were recently launched on social media.

The film is produced by Santosh Jagannath Mhatre of Dream Dot Creation Productions, with Rupesh Rane, Arun Konje, Datta Gaikar and Raju Rane as co-producers. Presented by Ran Studios Production’s Nandu Meher, Rupesh Rane, Arun Konje and Raju Rane, the concept, story and screenplay are by Raju Rane. Dattatray Gaikar and Raju Rane wrote and directed the film, handling the script and dialogues as well. The cast includes notable actors such as Prashant Mohite, Ashwini Kasar, Abhijit Shwetachandra, Siddhi Patne, Anil Nagarkar, Prashant Tapasvi, Ramchandra Dhumal, Akshay Mhatre, Deepjyoti Naik and Anuj Thakre in prominent roles. Raja Phadtare is the cinematographer; Yuvraj Gongle penned the lyrics and directed the music; Ajay Gogawale, Javed Ali, Anandi Joshi and Haridas Shinde lent their voices to the songs. Art direction is by Nitesh Nandgaonkar, VFX by Rehman Abdulla, and Mahesh Bharambe serves as executive producer.

The landslide, triggered by heavy rains, caused both loss of life and property. An entire village seemed to vanish that morning. Against this grim backdrop, the film promises a moving and suspenseful experience for audiences. Its strengths are a strong screenplay, a dedicated cast, outstanding VFX and music. Marathi cinema has produced many powerful stories, and “Ek Hota Malin” aims to join those ranks. Notably, Raju Rane spoke directly with Malin villagers and used their firsthand accounts to shape the screenplay. After months of discussion and intense effort by the Navya Dama (new vigor) team, the film is now ready for viewers on July 24.
