Omkam Aviations Partners with Russia’s UAC to Bring 50 IL-114-300 Aircraft and Manufacturing Plant to India!
NEW DELHI — Omkam Aviations Pvt. Ltd. has unveiled plans to introduce 50 Russian IL-114-300 aircraft to India, backed by a framework for complete domestic manufacturing under a Transfer of Technology (ToT) pact with Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC).
The announcement took center stage at the Innoprom India trade fair held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, highlighting industrial ties between India and Russia ahead of the 18th BRICS Summit.
Managing Director Mr. Peeyush Kumar Aggarwal detailed the structure of the agreement: “We have signed an LOI for the purchase of 50 IL-114-300 aircraft with the UAC of Russia. Six aircraft will make up the first batch, with an assembly line to be built in India, followed by technology transfer. This will be the first major plant in India to manufacture aircraft for civil aviation.”
The opening phase requires an investment of 1,500 crores for the initial six units and support framework, with subsequent expansions planned for full-scale production.
Financing is backed in principle by Sberbank of Russia.
Designed specifically for short runways and minimal ground infrastructure, the 66- to 68-seat turboprop targets direct connectivity for Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. Executive Director Mr. Aditya Aggarwal elaborated on the route strategy: “These aircraft are well-suited for connecting the smaller Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. For instance, if someone wants to travel from Meerut to Mumbai, they can go directly rather than flying into Delhi and then transferring to Mumbai—just like prospective routes connecting Noida, Agra, Pune, and beyond.”
Co-Founder and Director Mr. Govind Gupta added that the localized manufacturing ecosystem aligns directly with the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar’ vision.
Ministerial and Presidential Backing Union Minister of Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu voiced strong support: “IL-114-300 is quite compatible for India’s regional connectivity scheme with a lot of regional airports coming up. It is very important to connect them. And planes like this are very efficient to connect them. We have expanded the dialogues on that and want to start the manufacturing process as soon as possible of getting the Russian planes manufactured in our country.”
Momentum for the venture was further underscored when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin reviewed the IL-114-300 model at the UAC exhibition booth.
