“Following the Quit India resolution on August 8, 1942, my grandfather Barrister M.Y. Nurie and 51 other prominent Congress Working Committee leaders—including Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Morarji Desai, B.G. Kher, and S.K. Patil—were arrested from Colaba on the morning of August 9. They were taken to Ahmednagar Fort Jail, where they remained imprisoned for over two years.”

Nurie highlighted that the gathering served to remember the sacrifices that reshaped India’s freedom struggle, showing the British government that independence was inevitable.
