Hansal Mehta emphasizes that ‘Family Business’ is a wholly original Indian series!

Netflix’s upcoming corporate drama #FamilyBusiness, announced as part of the Next On Netflix 2026 India slate, has drawn early comparisons with global hits like Succession and Billions. Director and co-creator Hansal Mehta has dismissed the chatter, calling such parallels “lazy comparisons,” and clarifying that a corporate backdrop doesn’t make every story a remake.

Mehta emphasized that Family Business is a wholly original Indian series, rooted in real corporate battles and family dynamics unique to the country’s socio-cultural and economic fabric. While he admires international shows in the genre, he stressed that the Netflix series has its own voice and identity and stands firmly on its own.
