Review: Assi: 80 Rape Cases Daily, One Family’s Pain Wakes Us Up!
Assi starts strong with a simple middle-class family teacher Parima (Kani Kusruti), shop worker Vinay (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub), and their little kid (Advik Jaiswal) destroyed when she’s attacked by five men after a colleague’s retirement party at school, pulled into their car, raped, and thrown on train tracks, leading to a tough court fight by lawyer Raavi (Taapsee Pannu) against missing proof where the defense lies and claims their car was stolen, all tied to India’s sad fact of “Assi” (80 rapes every day) that shows how many cases get stuck forever.
Court scenes feel real like you’re sitting there with close shots of worried faces, loud judge hammers, and dim lights building stress, as Kartik (Kumud Mishra), still hurting from his wife’s death by a drunk driver, shows the anger of normal people crushed by police delays, paperwork hassles, good cops trying hard, and news that helps the rich, painting a clear picture of family pain in everyday crises.
Main actors do a great job Taapsee’s Raavi fights hard in tough questions, Kani’s Parima shows broken strength with quiet looks, Kumud’s Kartik holds back rage well, and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub makes the family hurt feel true side roles like good cops and smart lawyers are spot-on too, leading to a big question: does she win justice, or become one more lost case in the pile?
Anubhav Sinha directs simply but powerfully, using rough camera work for chases, dark night scenes for fear, and straight talk that calls out fake society rules without long lectures.
It is a must-see that grabs you fast, starts talks on women’s safety and better laws, best in theatres on its Feb 20 release for big sound and crowd feel; great for Bollywood lovers wanting real stories like Pink, but tougher and closer to life.
