Review : Rahu Ketu : Blending Comedy with Cosmic Chaos!
The astrological planets Rahu and Ketu are synonymous with unpredictability and disruption. In astrology, Rahu represents illusion, ambition, and sudden twists, while Ketu signifies detachment, mystery, and karmic lessons. These planetary forces are believed to bring unexpected turns in human lives, sometimes chaotic, sometimes transformative. The recently released film Rahu Ketu, starring Varun Sharma as Rahu and Pulkit Samrat as Ketu, reflects these traits through madness, mischief, and surprising outcomes, making their pairing both unpredictable and irresistibly entertaining.
Set in a serene hill town of Himachal Pradesh, the story revolves around Churu Lal Sharma (Manu Rishi Chadha), an aspiring writer grappling with a crippling creative block. His stagnant life takes a dramatic turn with the arrival of his enigmatic relative, Phuphaji (Piyush Mishra), who possesses a magical book that brings whatever is written in it to life. As Churu experiments with this extraordinary object, two unusual characters, Rahu and Ketu, come into existence. Though kind-hearted and innocent, their presence sparks a chain of bizarre incidents, earning them the label of bad luck among the townsfolk, even as they remain unaware of the reason behind the chaos that follows them.
Running parallel to this fantastical narrative is Meenu’s (Shalini Pandey) story. Leading a double life, she is secretly entangled with the town’s dreaded criminal, Mordekhai (Chunky Pandey). Her hidden association adds tension while also fuelling the film’s comic conflicts, seamlessly blending with the magical mayhem and resulting in a narrative packed with humour, suspense, and unexpected twists.
The film explores themes of destiny and karma, suggesting that events perceived as misfortune can often turn into the most memorable experiences, while gently delivering light-hearted moral messages. Its fantasy-comedy blend has been appreciated for its freshness and intent, though the screenplay’s overall impact and the visual effects could have been sharper.
The popular Fukrey duo, Pulkit Samrat and Varun Sharma, strike a fine balance between charm and chaos, making their scenes instantly engaging. Pulkit’s relaxed, expressive style complements Varun’s high-energy situational humour perfectly, a dynamic audiences have come to enjoy. Shalini Pandey looks beautiful and shows promise as a comedienne, while Piyush Mishra, Chunky Pandey, and the supporting cast lend solid support.
Despite its narrative shortcomings, Rahu Ketu succeeds in blending comedy with cosmic chaos and strong on-screen chemistry, offering an enjoyable, feel-good watch that prioritises fun over flawlessness.
