20 Years Of Rajkumar Hirani’s Cult Classic ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’: A Film That Taught Us The Power of Gandhigiri!
Rajkumar Hirani is a name that stands tall among the biggest filmmakers of Indian cinema, having delivered several landmark blockbusters over the years. One such iconic film from his celebrated slate is Lage Raho Munna Bhai, which released 20 years ago today. Starring Sanjay Dutt in his legendary avatar as Munna Bhai alongside Arshad Warsi as Circuit, the beloved comedy-drama served as a spiritual sequel to the runaway hit Munna Bhai M.B.B.S..

Lage Raho Munna Bhai follows the story of a local Mumbai gangster, Munna Bhai, who falls in love with radio jockey Jhanvi (played by Vidya Balan) and pretends to be a history professor specializing in Mahatma Gandhi. With its perfectly balanced blend of sharp comedy, deep emotion, romance, and a social message, it struck a deep chord with audiences and became a massive box-office phenomenon. The film was powered by unforgettable characters, stellar performances, and iconic dialogues, cementing Rajkumar Hirani’s reputation as a master storyteller.
The ensemble cast also featured Boman Irani, Jimmy Sheirgill, Dia Mirza, and Dilip Prabhavalkar, among others.
