Ramayana

“It Will Benefit Indian Cinema as a Whole,” Asserts Shiv Sagar, Grandson of Ramanand Sagar, Applauding the Trailer of Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana!

Ramayana stands as one of the most monumental and ambitious cinematic projects in the history of Indian film. Envisioned as a sweeping two-part global spectacle, the feature aims to bring the timeless epic to the screen on an unprecedented scale, powered by world-class visual effects, rich storytelling, and a star-studded cast. Following the debut of its highly anticipated trailer, which sparked nationwide enthusiasm, Shiv Sagar—grandson of legendary Ramayan creator Ramanand Sagar—shared his glowing praise for the footage.

During an interview, Shiv Sagar said, “I quite liked it, to be honest. In the earlier promotional asset, I felt that the quality of the graphics did not match the scale of the budget. However, after watching the trailer and seeing the ensemble cast, I am impressed. I thought Yash looked brilliant as Ravana. Sai Pallavi, too, suits the character of Sita, especially in the way she speaks and articulates herself. Overall, I think it looks very grand.”

Shiv continued, “I assume that they have made it with an international audience in mind. It would be great if the film opens up the global market for Indian mythology, culture and fantasy. If they manage to pull it off successfully, it will be wonderful and will benefit Indian cinema as a whole.”

He remarked, “Even the way Pushpak Viman has been conceived is praiseworthy. I also liked Surpanakha’s (Rakul Preet Singh) entry on the tiger chariot.”

Bringing this together with the story of the Ramayana, one of the greatest tale ever, Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana aims to bring epic emotion to life on an unprecedented scale. The film sees Ranbir Kapoor embodying Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi bringing grace to the role of Sita, alongside Yash as the commanding Ravana. Sunny Deol steps in as the indomitable Hanuman, with Ravi Dubey as Lakshman.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios in association with 8-time Oscar-winning DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, the two-part epic will release in IMAX worldwide — Part 1 in Diwali 2026 and Part 2 in Diwali 2027.
