Heart of the Beast Producer Richard Raymond Shares Full-Circle Moment With Brad Pitt From Pinewood Tea Maker to Producer!
Paramount Pictures and David Ayer’s survival thriller Heart of the Beast has been generating growing buzz following the trailer release. The Brad Pitt and canine partner Odin-starrer is all set to release in cinemas on 25th September
Brad Pitt’s Heart of the Beast is steadily building anticipation after the trailer’s release. Directed by David Ayer, the survival adventure thriller follows a Special Forces officer and his combat dog as they fight to survive the unforgiving Alaskan wilderness. The film is also generating early awards-season buzz ahead of its San Sebastian Film Festival premiere.
Producer Richard Raymond recently took to X to reveal the extraordinary five-year journey behind Heart of the Beast, sharing how he pursued Cameron Alexander’s script after instantly connecting with the story. The screenplay had already passed through several hands before Raymond decided to champion it.
“Five years. That’s how long I chased this one,” Raymond wrote, recalling how he immediately fell in love with Alexander’s script and saw its potential.
His passion for the project was also deeply personal. Raymond grew up around German Shepherds, with his mother breeding and training them, and had long wanted to make what he calls the “definitive German Shepherd film.” He saw that opportunity in Alexander’s screenplay, which he subsequently redeveloped with the writer.
To ensure the film’s canine star could deliver at the highest level, Raymond brought on acclaimed dog trainer Andrew Simpson, whose credits include the Malinois featured in John Wick. The project then attracted filmmakers Damien Chazelle and Olivia Hamilton, who shared Raymond’s vision for a gritty, large-scale survival thriller. “They saw exactly what I saw: a gritty survival thriller made for the big screen,” Raymond revealed.
Their involvement helped take the project to Paramount and rope in Brad Pitt as the lead and David Ayer as director. The film was subsequently shot against the dramatic landscapes of New Zealand.
For Raymond, however, having Pitt headline the film brought the journey full circle in an especially personal way. “Back in the 90s at Pinewood, I was a runner making Brad his tea and coffee on Interview with the Vampire. To now be one of the producers on what may be one of his very best films… I don’t have a word for it other than: pinch me,” he shared.
That journey adds another layer to a film that has already generated significant curiosity with its trailer. And while Heart of the Beast promises intense survival, action, and emotional stakes, Raymond offered one reassuring message to audiences — particularly dog lovers.
“Everybody loves a dog. It’s about the only thing the whole world agrees on,” he wrote, before adding the one spoiler audiences will be relieved to hear: “The dog does not die. You’re welcome.”
