Sukumar achieves another milestone, winning Best Screenplay at the 72nd National Film Awards

Renowned for his distinct narrative style, sharp writing, and bold cinematic vision, Sukumar stands as one of the most acclaimed filmmakers in Indian cinema today. Through the Pushpa franchise, he birthed a global cultural phenomenon. Pushpa 2: The Rule did more than just shatter box office records—it set a new standard for Indian mainstream cinema through its intense storytelling, iconic characterization, and grand scale.

Adding another milestone to his journey, Sukumar has now won the Best Screenplay Writer award for Pushpa 2 at the 72nd National Film Awards. His brilliantly crafted screenplay played an important role in making the franchise a pop culture hit. Alongside him, Deepali Noor and Sheetal Sharma were honoured with the Best Costume Designer award for Pushpa 2.

Pushpa 2: The Rule created a worldwide frenzy upon its release. Establishing its dominance at the box office, the film collected a massive ₹800 Cr in Hindi alone and around ₹1800 Cr worldwide, becoming the biggest opening film and the biggest Indian film at the time of its release, a record that no film has been able to break since.

With his exceptional storytelling and powerful screenplay, Sukumar turned Pushpa into a nationwide and global phenomenon. His distinctive vision redefined commercial cinema, making the franchise one of Indian cinema’s biggest blockbusters.
