Abundantia Entertainment Partners with National Award-Winner Rajesh Mapuskar to Bring the Legend of the Undefeated Maratha Navy Admiral, Sarkhel Kanhojiraje Angre, to the Big Screen
Mumbai, 9th July 2026 – Leading Indian film studio Abundantia Entertainment has officially announced its grandest theatrical feature film to date, Angre. This ambitious project will chronicle the extraordinary life and legacy of #SarkhelKanhojirajeAngre, the legendary Grand Admiral of the Maratha Navy who successfully defended India’s western shores against British and Portuguese forces for more than forty years. The historical epic is set to be directed by National Award-winning filmmaker #RajeshMapuskar, marking his second creative venture with Abundantia following Chiranjeevi Hanuman – The Eternal. Co-produced by Abundantia and Mapuskar’s Magij Pictures, today’s announcement sets the stage for one of the most prominent historical productions in contemporary Indian cinema.
Sarkhel Kanhojiraje Angre stands as one of the most formidable naval commanders in Indian history – a figure who carried forward the maritime vision first set in motion by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. From his headquarters at ‘Kolaba,’ he commanded a warrior fleet that defended the Konkan coast, humbled European naval powers on the high seas, and asserted the sovereignty of the Maratha empire over the waters of the Indian Ocean – a legacy the Indian Navy honours to this day. He remained undefeated till the end and remained a committed and devout follower of the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

After a successful start to 2026 with critically acclaimed and commercial blockbusters in Daldal, Subedaar and Maa Behen, Abundantia Entertainment’s titles slated for release later this year include Chiranjeevi Hanuman – The Eternal, in partnership with Star Studios and Collective’s Historyverse, a Netflix Original series Family Business and the Prime Video Original Sundar Poonam – a slate that continues to reflect the studio’s commitment to backing distinctive storytellers across scale, genre and format.
