Cinematic History Made: S.S. Rajamouli Earns Prestigious Permanent Spot at Cinémathèque Française Alongside Legend Costa-Gavras!

S.S. Rajamouli has fundamentally rewritten the rules of modern Indian cinema, transforming it into a formidable global powerhouse. Through the monumental success of the Baahubali franchise and the Oscar-winning phenomenon RRR, the visionary director has captivated international audiences with his unmatched scale, emotionally charged storytelling, and fierce pride in Indian heritage. His ability to seamlessly blend cultural roots with universal appeal has not only broken box-office records but has also fundamentally shifted how the world perceives Indian filmmaking.

Now, the celebrated filmmaker has added yet another monumental achievement to his illustrious career. S.S. Rajamouli has been honoured with a permanent place at the Cinémathèque Française in Paris, one of the world’s most prestigious and influential film institutions. Founded by the legendary Henri Langlois, the institution is regarded as a sacred space for the preservation and celebration of cinematic history, making this recognition a landmark moment for both Rajamouli and Indian cinema.

Cinémathèque Française has celebrated cinematic legends like Martin Scorsese, James Cameron, and David Fincher over the years. Honours of this stature are not earned through a single blockbuster but through years of visionary filmmaking, lasting artistic excellence, and a body of work that leaves an enduring impact on world cinema.

Adding to the occasion’s significance, Rajamouli also shared a memorable moment with the legendary Oscar-winning Greek-French filmmaker Costa-Gavras. In a remarkable gesture of admiration, Costa-Gavras watched Rajamouli’s films for nearly eight hours before attending and staying through his masterclass, reflecting the profound impact of the Indian filmmaker’s work.

Sharing the pictures, S.S. Rajampuli wrote, “Having me here in Paris and screening my films is itself an honour for me. But a sweet surprise I never saw coming. It is a feeling I cannot fully put into words. To have a permanent place in the halls of one of the world’s most legendary film institutions, named after the great Henri Langlois himself, is something I will carry with me forever.
My deepest gratitude to the legendary Mr. Costa Gavras and the entire Cinémathèque Française family for this honour, and for embracing Indian cinema with such warmth and love. 🙏
