Director Srija Barua Nalawade’s ‘The Mushrooms’ Revives ’80s Retro Bollywood Magic with ‘Kaisi Hai Yeh Shaam Aaj Ki’!
There is a timeless magic in golden-era Hindi music—melodies carried an effortless warmth, romance felt genuine, and every visual frame possessed its own cinematic charm. Channeling that nostalgic energy with a contemporary touch, the new original retro track ‘Kaisi Hai Yeh Shaam Aaj Ki’ has officially launched from the upcoming film The Mushrooms.
Directed by Srija Barua Nalawade, the track features Anushka Kaushik and Abhijeet Nalawade, marking their first onscreen collaboration. Abhijeet, a renowned theatre artist, is also well-known for his notable performances in Marathi cinema and web series. The brand-new retro track is sung by Tarannum Malik Jain and composed by acclaimed music director Paresh Shah.
Rooted in the sonic and visual aesthetics of classic Indian cinema, ‘Kaisi Hai Yeh Shaam Aaj Ki’ celebrates an era when soundtrack numbers were deeply tied to the narrative’s emotional core. The track blends the charm, glamour, and nostalgia of vintage Bollywood with modern cinematic production, creating a unique musical identity for today’s audience.
Speaking about the song’s inspiration, director Srija Barua Nalawade shared: “I have always been drawn to the honesty and simplicity of old Hindi cinema. There was a beautiful innocence in the way romance, music, and emotions were portrayed. With ‘Kaisi Hai Yeh Shaam Aaj Ki’, I wanted to capture that feeling and bring it into the world of The Mushrooms. The song has a very nostalgic soul, but it is not meant to feel like something from the past. It is our way of connecting that timeless emotion with today’s audience.”
The Mushrooms is produced by Srija Barua Nalawade and Abhijeet Nalawade, presented under the banner of Lasaki MediaWorks. The original story and screenplay have been penned jointly by Srija Barua Nalawade and Abhijeet Nalawade.
