DJ Chetas is ranked World No. 33 on the DJ MAG Top 100 DJs 2016 list and is ranked India’s No.1 Bollywood DJ. Bollywood’s ultimate beat maker, he is the Official DJ for the Kolkata Knight Riders and also the only Indian DJ with a mobile app promoting dance music to the masses. He’s performed alongside leading artists and at some of the country’s most prestigious events. His musical journey dates back 11 years when he started off his career just as a passion for the love of music, little did he know that this passion would transcend into an art possessed by very few artists the world over. After years of unmatched and dedicated hard work, his talent was recognized by www.myfavdj.in wherein voters and music lovers across the nation voted DJ Chetas unanimously as their Favorite Bollywood DJ and got him to the No.1 spot in India. For him, life is a mashup. Well past the 10 pm deadline and performing at the EVC festival, DJ Chetas took the night to an all new high, with remixes of popular Bollywood tracks Nadaan Parindey, Cutie Pie, Sweety Tera Drama, Kala Chasma, uit Suit and Jab Koi Baat. VERUS FERREIRA met up with the DJ a few minutes after he finished his set.

Tell us about your journey in the DJ space and what was the first thought when you got in Bollywood music?
I’ve always been a Bollywood person; there are tons of EDM DJs in the country. My goal and vision is simple, I want to take Indian music to the world. This has been my vision ever since I started DeeJaying.

What are the elements you look at when creating your own music?
All of my music needs the soul. I can’t make or play a random party song, there has to be a very distinct feel in every song I play or make. That’s what makes all my mixes unique.

How do you help the candidates who enrol at your academy, post-training?
We keep trying to look for events where they can perform, try and procure master classes and sometimes we also make them open for me wherever possible.

Who is your favourite singer in the music industry?
Arijit Singh

Which is your favourite track that you don’t forget to play at all your gigs?
There are quite a few actually but Om Shanti Om is one evergreen track which has always been on all my sets.

What do you do when you are not playing music?
DJing is a hobby; my full-time role is handling my father’s business. We’re into road construction and from 9 am till evening I’m at the office and then run straight to the airport if I’m playing at a gig.

Tell us about your next album?
I’ve just dropped my debut album called ‘Life is a Mashup’ which is a free download for all fans. I’ll wait a couple of months for the next one, but meanwhile, I’m dropping a lot of original music and remixes.

You collaborated with indie singer Shirley Setia just now. Can you tell us something about it?
That was something special. My latest release Jab Koi Baat featuring Shirley Setia (and Atif Aslam) was well received by my fans here, and I am sure Setia
too loved the spotlight again after her performance early in the day.
