“I End Calls the Second Something Feels Off”: Scam 2024 Star Vidya Malavade Opens Up on Protecting Personal Privacy Against Fraud!

“The instant I realize someone is pressing for a password, PIN, or confidential details, I hang up immediately,” shares actress Vidya Malavade as she explains her zero-tolerance approach to suspicious callers and why she guards her sensitive data carefully. The star, who takes center stage in Story TV’s Scam 2024 – The Digital Arrest Story, also reflected on a recent hotel check-in experience that opened her eyes to how casually people share identification cards containing critical personal information.

Recalling her experiences with scam calls, Vidya said, “I have received a lot of scam calls, but I have always managed to identify them. Fortunately, I haven’t had too many such incidents because the moment I sense that something isn’t right, I disconnect the call. I also feel that speaking to someone over the phone for too long could put your personal details at risk. I had even heard that if you speak to someone on the phone for a long time, your voice can be cloned. So, the moment I feel that someone is asking for a password, PIN or any such information, that’s it. I disconnect the call.”

Sharing a recent incident that made her more conscious about sharing personal details, she added, “Just last week, I was staying at a hotel as we were there for a performance. When they asked for ID proof, I was about to hand over my Aadhaar card, but my co-star immediately asked me, ‘Why are you giving your Aadhaar card?’ I hadn’t even realised that it contained all my personal details. That’s when I handed over my passport instead.”

Her experiences also bring attention to the subject explored in her latest series, Scam 2024 – The Digital Arrest Story, which highlights how even educated and cautious individuals can fall prey to cyber fraud.

Speaking about her character and the relevance of Scam 2024 – The Digital Arrest Story, Vidya Malavade said, “I have played women who fight on a field, as the last line of defence. What frightened me most while playing Priya was realising she could be any of us. Our parents. Our neighbours. Priya is educated, she is careful, she does everything right, and she still loses everything in a single afternoon. Now think about people who aren’t as familiar with the digital world. That is what makes this story matter. If it makes even one family pause before that one scam phone call, it has done more than most stories ever get to.”
