“I studied deeply and met many scholars. I practiced yoga for two years,” reveals Ranbir Kapoor while sharing his preparation to play Lord Ram in Ramayana!

#Ramayana stands as one of the most ambitious and monumental cinematic projects in Indian film history. Conceived as a grand two-part global spectacle, the epic aims to bring the legendary story to life on an extraordinary scale through world-class storytelling, cutting-edge visual effects, and an exceptional star cast. As anticipation for the film reaches new heights, Ranbir Kapoor opened up about his journey in bringing Lord Ram to the screen.

During the Ramayana panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Ranbir Kapoor said, “I always feel that kind of preparation, making a body or action and dance, is kind of easy because that is a bit superficial. But to really understand the philosophy of Lord Rama deeply at this age and this point in my life was really important to embody this character. You want to give it your best and be simple and not complicated. You want to be someone with whom someone age to age 80 can relate. Understanding the teachings of Lord Rama was more important than the superficial transformation.”

The actor revealed that his process involved deep study, guidance from scholars, and years of spiritual discipline. Explaining how he approached the character’s mindset, he said, “I read a lot, met with a lot of scholars. I practised yoga for two years. I had a guru called Suvir who used to sit and meditate with me for hours to get me really close to the teachings of Lord Rama. It’s really understanding the text because we have that. There are so many versions and iterations”

Bringing this together with the story of the Ramayana, one of the greatest tale ever, Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana aims to bring epic emotion to life on an unprecedented scale. The film sees Ranbir Kapoor embodying Lord Ram and #SaiPallavi bringing grace to the role of Sita, alongside #Yash as the commanding Ravana. #SunnyDeol steps in as the indomitable Hanuman, with Ravi Dubey as Lakshman.

Directed by #NiteshTiwari and produced by #NamitMalhotras Prime Focus Studios in association with 8-time Oscar-winning DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, the two-part epic will release in IMAX worldwide — Part 1 in Diwali 2026 and Part 2 in Diwali 2027.
