“I’M ALWAYS DRAWN TO STORIES WITH DEPTH AND MEANING”: PRIYANKA CHOPRA JONAS ON PRODUCING HUNKKAAR: THE ROAR VIA PURPLE PEBBLE PICTURES!
FROM ANUJA TO HUNKKAAR: THE ROAR, PRIYANKA CHOPRA JONAS CONTINUES TO BACK DISTINCTIVE STORIES THROUGH PURPLE PEBBLE PICTURES
Priyanka Chopra Jonas’s producing ethos has consistently centered on elevating stories with real weight and championing visionary filmmakers. Serving as executive producer for the JioHotstar series Hunkkaar: The Roar—a narrative tackling themes of power, perception, and justice—Chopra Jonas further solidifies Purple Pebble Pictures’ commitment to bold, thought-provoking content.
“I’m always drawn to stories that have depth and meaning, and Hunkkaar: The Roar is one such story. It takes on a deeply sensitive subject and tells the story with honesty and conviction. I have immense respect for Nitya and Karan, Applause and the entire team for the thought and care they’ve brought to this project. I’m proud that Purple Pebble Pictures could be part of this journey”, says Priyanka.
For Chopra Jonas, producing is about creating opportunities for stories and creative voices that deserve a wider platform. Purple Pebble Pictures was established with the intention of discovering new talent, supporting distinctive narratives and giving filmmakers the freedom to tell stories they believe in. Its focus extends across languages, genres and formats, with an emphasis on stories rooted in specific realities that can resonate with audiences universally. Speaking about the company’s creative ethos in an earlier interview, Chopra Jonas said, “At Purple Pebble Pictures, we want to tell good stories, give new talent a chance and provide the audience with an entertaining experience.”
That philosophy has shaped a varied slate of projects. Purple Pebble Pictures produced the Marathi film Paani, which received the National Film Award for Best Film on Environment Conservation and Preservation, and has supported projects including Ventilator, Firebrand and The White Tiger. Its work has also extended to internationally recognised films, with Chopra Jonas serving as executive producer on the Oscar-nominated documentary To Kill a Tiger and the Oscar-nominated short film Anuja. The latter marked the production company’s third Oscar-nominated project following The White Tiger and To Kill a Tiger.
Hunkkaar: The Roar continues this commitment through its collaboration with creators Nitya Mehra and Karan D. Kapadia. Directed by Kapadia, Mehra and Heeraz Marfatia, the series follows Meenu Rawat, a 17-year-old girl who accuses a powerful spiritual leader of sexual assault. As the case draws national attention, the narrative examines the structures of power surrounding her and the difficult pursuit of justice.
Chopra Jonas has expressed her belief in the creative team and their approach to telling a deeply sensitive story with honesty and conviction. Her involvement as executive producer reflects Purple Pebble Pictures’ wider focus on backing filmmakers with a clear creative vision and supporting stories that invite audiences to look beyond the obvious. Produced by Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment, in association with Purple Pebble Pictures, and as a Mangata Films production, Hunkkaar: The Roar premiered on JioHotstar on September 25, 2026.
Through projects such as Hunkkaar: The Roar, Chopra Jonas continues to build a producing portfolio that spans intimate human stories, socially relevant narratives and distinctive cinematic voices. At its core, Purple Pebble Pictures remains committed to discovering talent, backing bold creative visions and making space for stories that have something meaningful to say.
