Kalyana Virundhu

Karthik Subbaraj’s Dorothy Drops Anticipated Wedding Track ‘Kalyana Virundhu’ — Dancing at an Ex’s Wedding Alongside a Best Friend!

Wedding numbers in Karthik Subbaraj’s cinema have consistently transcended mere celebratory choreography. They serve as pivotal narrative extensions, seamlessly blending regional customs, folk melodies, communal dynamics, and nuanced emotional undercurrents that frequently steer the main character’s arc.

Kalyana Virundhu from Dorothy follows this signature, placing friendship at the centre. The song features the hero dancing at his ex’s wedding, with his best friend by his side. Their chemistry takes centre stage through playful exchanges, synchronised moves, reactions and moments of effortless camaraderie, turning an emotionally complicated situation into a celebration of friendship.

Adding to the song’s rooted feel, Maestro Ilaiyaraaja brings the nostalgic soul of an old-school Tamil wedding song into a fresh, original rendition that feels timeless yet entirely new. Familiar yet refreshing, the music complements the vibrant wedding setting while retaining the cultural authenticity of Karthik Subbaraj’s world.

The song also brings together the characters within the wedding setting, where celebration, emotion and tension coexist, eventually leading to an emotional outburst.

Written and directed by Karthik Subbaraj, Dorothy stars Sananth, Rishikanth and Keerthy Suresh in pivotal roles. The film will have its world premiere at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival in the Centrepiece section and will release worldwide in cinemas on September 25, 2026.

Produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain in association with Dhammam Films, Dorothy is backed by Jio Studios and Sikhya Entertainment.
