Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots sequel confirmed, reveals Aamir Khan!

#RajkumarHirani is a director who has delivered many blockbusters. With a 100% superhit track record, he has given audiences a film like 3 Idiots, which enjoys cult status today. While the film is a gem in the Indian entertainment industry, everyone is eager to know if the filmmaker has any plans for its sequel. Confirming the same, one of its lead actors, Aamir Khan, has revealed that a sequel is indeed in discussion.

In an interview, Aamir Khan said, “At this time, he is working on 3 Idiots sequel. I have heard the narration. It looks good. It has the same humour but with an unusual story. It has the same 3 Idiots characters, but it takes place 10 years after the original film.”

Aamir also expressed his desire to reprise his role as Phunsukh Wangdu. He said, “This is one of the films I will be working on soon. I think it’s a beautiful story and Abhijat and Raju have written it very well. So, I am also waiting to do that.”

In December 2025, 3 Idiots actor Sharman Joshi shared that he hoped there would be a sequel. he shared, “On more than a couple of occasions, there has been buzz that the 3 Idiots sequel is happening. The last time the reports came, it turned out to be for an ad campaign. Let’s see, hopefully this time it’s true.”

Released in 2009, 3 Idiots was written and directed by Rajkumar Hirani, co-written by Abhijat Joshi, and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. The film stars Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, and Sharman Joshi in the lead roles, while Kareena Kapoor, Boman Irani, Mona Singh, and Omi Vaidya play supporting roles.

Considered among the greatest Indian films ever made, it had a significant social impact on attitudes toward education in India, as well as in other Asian countries such as China and South Korea, and enjoys a huge cult following for its relevance and humour. At the 57th National Film Awards, the film won three awards, including Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
