“Safety Is A Fictional Concept Called Narnia”: Kubbra Sait Sparks Important Conversation On Women’s Safety In Hard-Hitting Video!

Asking why society continues to hand the safety rulebook exclusively to women, actor Kubbra Sait has sparked a vital conversation around public safety and systemic accountability in a powerful new video message.

Opening with, “Safety is a place called Narnia. Yes, it’s fictional,” Kubbra lists a series of recent incidents involving girls and women — from a child who had stepped out to buy stationery to students returning home — underlining that there is no age, place, time or circumstance that automatically guarantees safety.

She then questions the instructions women have heard all their lives.

“Cover up. Don’t go out at night. Don’t hang out with boys. Share your location. Carry pepper spray. Be careful. How much more careful are we supposed to be?”

Kubbra then turns the conversation around: “When are these instructions reaching the boys?”

Don’t stalk her. Don’t follow her. Don’t threaten her. Don’t punish her for rejecting you. Take no for an answer.

With biting humour, she even suggests sending boys to “reformation camp, consent camp, ego detox, patriarchy de-addiction centre,” before adding, “Because ‘boys will be boys’ — this strategy of parenting is not working.”

At the heart of Kubbra’s message is a line that cuts through the noise: “Feminism is nothing but the simple idea that women are people.”

People who should be able to study, laugh, love, buy stationery, ride a bike, stand beside a boy or simply exist in a public space without fear.

Kubbra’s message isn’t asking women to become more careful. It is asking society to stop making women smaller in the name of keeping them safe.

As she puts it, the violence, fear, shame, consequences and blame need to be placed where they actually belong.

And perhaps that is the question her video leaves behind: How much more are women expected to change their lives before we start asking those making them unsafe to change theirs?
