Shubh Raj’s ‘Con Killer’ Explores Love, Obsession, and the Dark Side of Trauma!
NovaX Entertainment’s 63-minute psychological crime thriller delves into the volatile space between rejection, guilt, and emotional insecurity.
NEW DELHI: Independent entertainment banner NovaX Entertainment is bringing a gripping psychological crime thriller to audiences with Con Killer, a 63-minute film that explores the fragile and often dangerous space between love, rejection, obsession, guilt and unresolved trauma. Written and directed by Ujjwal Srivastava, the film features Shubh Raj in the lead role of Shiva and also marks his debut as the project’s overall producer.
At the centre of Con Killer is Shiva, a young and ambitious corporate professional whose life appears to be moving in the right direction. After receiving a major promotion to lead his company’s Delhi operations, Shiva seems to have both professional stability and personal ambitions. However, beneath that composed exterior lies a deeply vulnerable individual carrying emotional insecurity and the scars of past heartbreak.
His carefully constructed world begins to collapse when a grand public proposal to his colleague Priya ends in rejection. What initially appears to be a painful personal setback gradually becomes a psychological trigger. Shiva finds himself struggling with anger, guilt, disappointment and an increasingly obsessive emotional state.
When Rejection Turns Into Obsession
Seeking distance from the emotional turmoil, Shiva travels to Dehradun under the pretext of attending a college reunion. Instead of providing an escape, the journey brings him face-to-face with memories of his former partner, Tanya.
As the past begins to intersect with the present, Shiva’s understanding of reality starts becoming increasingly distorted. Old wounds, unresolved emotions and new encounters push him further into a psychological spiral, creating a dangerous chain of events.
The film gradually builds toward a tragic and emotionally intense climax, where Shiva is forced to confront the consequences of his choices—and ultimately, the darkest parts of his own mind.
Rather than portraying its central character through the conventional hero-versus-villain framework, Con Killer attempts to examine the grey areas of human behaviour.
“Shiva is an intricate character. He isn’t framed as a traditional hero or villain, but as a deeply flawed individual struggling against his own mind. The film looks at human vulnerability without relying on conventional tropes,” says Shubh Raj.
A Thriller Driven by Character and Atmosphere
Director Ujjwal Srivastava uses the psychological thriller format to explore the emotional consequences of rejection and unresolved relationships. Instead of relying solely on external conflict, the narrative places the protagonist’s mental and emotional deterioration at the centre of the story.
The film’s visual treatment further complements its dark psychological tone. Director of Photography Jaidev Bhattacharya creates a moody cinematic atmosphere that mirrors Shiva’s increasingly disturbed state of mind.
The supporting cast includes Gunjan Nailwal, Anamika Raj and Ansheikaa Sharma, adding further dimensions to the film’s emotional and narrative landscape.
The production was filmed extensively across Dehradun after securing official permissions and support from the Uttarakhand Film Development Council (UFDC). Several sequences were shot at locations including DBS Global University and Saphience School, adding an authentic backdrop to the story.
More Than Just a Film for Shubh Raj
For Shubh Raj, Con Killer represents more than a lead acting opportunity. At 23, he has taken on the additional responsibility of producing the project, becoming involved in financing, logistics, talent acquisition, coordination and production management.
The experience of creating the film independently also contributed to the larger vision behind NovaX Entertainment, which aims to create opportunities and resources for emerging creators.
However, at its heart, Con Killer remains a story about a man whose inability to process rejection slowly transforms his emotional pain into something far more dangerous.
With its focus on psychological conflict, emotional vulnerability and the blurred boundaries between love and obsession, Con Killer aims to offer audiences a thriller that is as much about the human mind as it is about crime.
