As the much-awaited trailer of Daayra prepares to unfold on August 31, National Award-winning filmmaker Meghna Gulzar has shared a deeply reflective note on the journey that led to her upcoming directorial.

At the heart of her note is a storytelling philosophy that has long defined her cinema: that human life rarely exists in absolutes. With Daayra, Meghna takes that exploration a step further, describing the film as one that “not only explores that grey… it invades it… it attempts to dismantle it.”

Reflecting on the central duality of the story, she also touched upon the casting of Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran, whose characters represent two contrasting forces navigating the same complicated landscape. Tracing her narrative evolution across past acclaimed works, Meghna offers audiences a rare window into the personal questions and real-world observations that brought her to this project.

Inspired by true events, Daayra is directed by Meghna Gulzar and written alongside Yash Keswani and Sima Agarwal. Produced by Junglee Pictures and Dr. Jayantilal Gada (Pen Studios) and distributed by Pen Marudhar, the film hits theatres nationwide on September 18, 2026.
