Just like her name, actress #Tanya Hope hopes to have equality not just for women but men too. Speaking on the occasion of #InternationalWomen’sDay, which is celebrated on March 8, she said, “I feel when it comes to gender equality, we as a country have progressed a lot. Though we have a long way to go, I believe well begun is half done, and we will surely set an example one day for other countries.”

When it comes to the industry, Tanya stressed that now an actor gets recognition based on their talent and not on their gender.

“As far as the industry is concerned, gone are the days of male actors being called superstars, these days female actors are equally recognized and appreciated for their craft. On-screen they are no longer the arm-candies or the haaye-bechaaris, they play such strong and impactful roles that leave an impression on the audience,” she said.

Since we are talking about gender equality, the actress, who has worked in South movies like “Thadam”, “Dharala Prabhu” and “Disco Raja”, also feels that men should be treated as equals when it comes to expressing their emotions.

“I feel we should also address the ‘men don’t cry’ or ‘don’t cry like a girl’ sayings as well. Crying or showing one’s emotions is not a gender-specific thing and the industry, in a way, has time and again shown that it’s ok for men to cry and it’s ok for men to show their emotions. Though there are still places in India where these sayings are still used, there are many places where it has been normalised now. And that’s a big step,” Tanya concluded.
