Team Tumbbad Unearths Original Film Relics During Recce for Tumbbad 2!
From Atte Ki Gudiya Moulds to the Original Lock Opener: Recce for Tumbbad 2 Uncovers Hidden Memories from the 2018 Cult Classic
While scouting locations for the upcoming sequel Tumbbad 2, the production team made an unexpected discovery: original props and set elements from the making of the 2018 film, preserved at the shoot location.
During a recce of the wada (ancestral mansion), the crew discovered the original atte ki gudiya (dough doll) moulds alongside the historic lock opener used on screen in the first movie. Untouched for years, these artifacts provided a nostalgic link back to the making of the atmospheric fantasy-horror universe.
Reflecting on the find, a crew member shared:
“We had gone to the wada purely for the recce and didn’t expect to come across anything from the first film. When we found the atte ki gudiya moulds, there was an instant sense of nostalgia because these were things we had actually used while making Tumbbad. Then we discovered the original lock opener as well. It was quite surreal to see these things still there after all these years. In a way, it felt like the location had preserved little pieces of the film for us to find when we came back.”
The discovery comes as anticipation builds for Tumbbad 2. The original 2018 film, starring Sohum Shah, earned a massive cult following for its rich visual world, folklore-inspired narrative, and haunting atmosphere. Its 2024 theatrical re-release further cemented its status as a commercial and critical success.
The sequel expands its ensemble cast with Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Alia Bhatt joining lead actor Sohum Shah. Directed by Adesh Prasad, Tumbbad 2 is being spearheaded by Sohum Shah under Sohum Shah Films in collaboration with Dr. Jayantilal Gada’s Pen Studios.
Tumbbad 2 is scheduled to hit theaters worldwide on December 3, 2027.
