Fresh off its acclaimed world premiere and glowing reviews at TIFF 2026, the trailer for Dorothy has been released, providing a peek into director Karthik Subbaraj’s powerful narrative on friendship, love, violence, and a society that conditions men to suppress their tears.

The trailer for director Karthik Subbaraj’s Dorothy is out, offering a provocative glimpse into a world where violence is inherited, emotions are suppressed, and men are told from an early age that they must never cry.

Opening on an Indian highway, the trailer introduces guilt-ridden Karthi, who steps out of his truck and makes a phone call that changes everything. The story then travels back to rural Tamil Nadu, tracing the lives of two friends, Karthi and Subbu, whose worlds are shaped by caste, violence, gangsters, and patriarchy. Their lives take a transformative turn when Dorothy enters their world.

At the heart of the trailer is the idea that “men don’t cry.” Yet, in a striking montage, Dorothy turns that notion on its head, bringing together images of men breaking down in tears. The trailer also hints at a road journey where past secrets surface, bringing Karthi and Subbu back together. As their journey unfolds, the film asks whether friendship and love can survive in a world built on hate.

Dorothy made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2026, becoming the first Indian Tamil film to premiere at the prestigious festival in a decade. The film received rave reviews and enthusiastic appreciation at its festival premiere, with audiences and critics responding to its bold storytelling, emotional depth, and portrayal of friendship, love, and violence. Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap described it as “Karthik Subbaraj’s boldest and best work so far. So surprising and pleasantly shocking that you just cannot see it coming.”

Starring Rishikanth, Sananth and Keerthy Suresh in key roles, Dorothy features music by maestro Ilaiyaraaja. Dorothy is presented by Jio Studios and produced by Sikhya Entertainment in association with Dhammam Films, with Jyoti Deshpande, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain as producers.
