With ‘Hardly Any Modifications’, Mirzapur: The Movie Cleared the Censor!
Excel Entertainment and Amazon MGM Studios’ Mirzapur: The Movie has emerged as one of the most anticipated films in Indian cinema, with excitement building ever since its announcement. Marking the much-awaited theatrical transition of India’s biggest OTT franchise, the film will bring the iconic and widely loved world of Mirzapur to the big screen for the first time. The explosive teaser and trailer have already fuelled anticipation, taking the excitement among fans to an all-new level. As the film is just three days away from its release, it has cleared the censor certificate with hardly any modifications.
According to a source close to the film, Mirzapur: The Movie has been certified by the CBFC with ‘hardly any modifications’. “This means audiences will get to experience the much-awaited theatrical adaptation exactly the way the makers intended it to be seen, retaining its raw, unfiltered essence on the big screen,” says the source. As per some reports, 35 seconds of footage had been cut from the film, but the source informed that there are no cuts and very few modifications in the film.
Talking about what is new in the film, Pankaj Tripathi said, “Whenever a performance or art form is experienced communally, the impact changes entirely. Enjoying it in a group creates a unique, shared experience. So, while Mirzapur used to be a ‘leave me alone’ kind of watch, it’s now in ‘party mode.’ The world is the same, the characters are the same, but the story is new, and the experience is much grander,” he said.
Presented by Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment, Mirzapur: The Movie is directed by Gurmmeet Singh, written by Puneet Krishna, and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under the banner of Excel Entertainment. The film is co-produced by Kassim Jagmagia and Vishal Ramchandani. Mirzapur: The Movie releases in cinemas on September 4, 2026.
